For seven seasons, The Middle has been a staple of the Wednesday night schedule on ABC. Now, the network has moved the sitcom to Tuesday nights. How will this move affect the ratings? Could this long-running comedy be cancelled or, will it be renewed for a ninth season? Stay tuned.
Set in Orson, Indiana, The Middle TV show revolves around the five members of the middle-class Heck family. It’s headed by quarry manager Mike (Neil Flynn) and Frankie (Patricia Heaton), a dental assistant. They do their best to make ends meet and raise their three very different kids — lazy Axl (Charlie McDermott), awkward Sue (Eden Sher), and Brick (Atticus Shaffer), the intelligent yet odd youngest son.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — typically around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.

Last year comparison: The seventh season of The Middle averaged a 1.89 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 7.33 million total viewers (live + same day ratings).
Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.

8/2 update: There will be no season 10 of The Middle. The upcoming ninth season will be the final installment. Details here.
My wife and I are hooked on the show. It’s the best ever. Please extend the run.
This show shouldn’t be cancelled because it’s the best TV series ever!!!! Thanks for asking!
Please keep it going my whole family from my 2 year old to my hubby and all 7 in between love this show. WE own the series on dvd and can literally watch them over and over.
Love Love Love this show!!!! Please keep it going!!
Please don’t end this show! It’s the most real based on life show out there. The Hecks are us, they are how the majority of us really live. It’s comforting to see them struggle through to the other side like most of us do. The Hecks are a typical American family and we love them
P.S. When it does have to end please consider doing a spin off with Eden Sher aka: Sue Heck
It would be a huge hit!
Thank you,
Lifetime Fan
Please don’t take the middle away, love it
Me and my son Noah love this show. It’s our favorite sitcom. It’s truly captures the American middle class family. Keep it rolling. It’s truly amazing….
I am in love with this show!! It will never get old for me. I watch every new episode plus all reruns. I definitely want to see a season nine!! Please bring back for more seasons!
I agree with you. This show is so realistic, and after all this time, my family and I are invested in the characters. The move to Tuesdays is at least partly to blame for the drop in ratings. It is so clever Keep it going!
My family and I love The Middle. We watch every episode together. Even the old rerun shows. It’s one of the few shows on tv we watch as a family together. We can relate to the middle class lifestyle going from paycheck to paycheck. Please don’t cancel.
I believe this show grew stale two seasons ago. I no longer watch or look to watch it. While they finally gave the husband (Mike) more personality – the kids are obnoxious with unchanging personalities, and the lines are not funny. This show has run its course. With great fresh shows like “Younger” and still excellent “Big Bang Theory”, “Mom”, and “Modern Family.” There are so many great choices – this just is not one.
That’s just your opinion which you are entitled to. However, I totally disagree with you which I am entitled to. I LOVE the show and think it is extremely funny and it relates to many of “middle class” family goes through. Kids are supposed to be “obnoxious” and Brick’s “unchanging personality quirks” are not only funny, but many children go thru the exact same things! If you like the other shows, go boost them up on their sites, but why the need to BASH the Middle on their site! Seems like a very small thing to do!
When someone calls “Modern Family” and “The Big Bang Theory” still excellent, their opinion on what’s excellent becomes suspect to me.
My family and I LOVE The Middle!!! I really hope The Powers That Be don’t cancel it! We haven’t remembered to watch it this particular season ONLY because it airs on Tuesdays now…we’re used to it airing on Wednesdays. That being said, we already had the DVR set to record all of The Middle’s “new” shows before this season even started (thank God!), so we’ve had The Middle watchathons to catch up. We’ve got way too many irons in the fire right now to watch anything on its actual air date/time – as do most people I know – so… Read more »
This is my family’s favorite. Family friendly for the most part, down to earth and just plain real but most relevant it is so funny. There isn’t too many shows on tv that I can watch with my kids and not cringe or be embarrassed. Big fan of all the cast and hope the powers that be at ABC will renew and keep going. Gotta go at least 11 seasons to tie with mash and cheers.
The Middle is the best! Especially Neil Flynn as Mike Heck. His is the truest character since John Goodman’s role on Rosanne. These two guys make it look so easy and natural, they are not given their due.
In my opinion, this season’s episode in the garage when Mike responds to Sue about her concern over him selling his half of the business to keep her in school, is the finest writing on any TV show this year.
Season nine -please!
I knew the move to Tuesday would hurt the ratings, but not this much.
Love “The Middle”. …the show is always up against the toughest competition and still holds it’s own. The actors and the writers are second to none. They really bring to life what many Americans deal with….it just feels so good to have something to laugh at …no biased media. After months of waiting the Tuesday episode was great! Can’t wait for next week.
I love The Middle. As far as I’m concerned, this show can go on and on and on. The actors are truly very talented and the writing is so clever. They bring humor to the every day experiences we all face to some degree. I especially enjoy Brick’s character (Aticus Schafer). Like I said, I wouldn’t mind several more seasons.
