Becca Winstone’s chase is over. ABC has cancelled Missing, their Thursday night TV series, after one season and 10 episodes.
Starring Ashley Judd, Missing follows a former CIA Agent turned single mom as she searches for her missing son in Europe. The action show also stars Adriano Giannini, Nick Eversman, Cliff Curtis, Tereza Voriskova, and Sean Bean.
Missing got off to a disappointing start on March 15th, registering a 2.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 10.60 million viewers. It was in third place for the demo and second place in total viewership.
In week two, the numbers took a significant drop, to a 1.6 rating with 8.81 million. Over the next several weeks, Missing fell lower and lower. The most recent episode hit a new low with a 1.1 demo rating and 6.37 million total viewers.

Overall, Missing’s been averaging a 1.5 rating with 7.70 million viewers. If they had more episodes in the season, those averages would surely keep sinking lower.
On our ABC Ratings Report Card, which measures the relative demo success of TV shows on the network, Missing has a “D-” for a grade. Of the 22 scripted shows on the network this season, Missing ranks 21st — just above the already-cancelled Charlie’s Angels remake.
With low ratings and steep declines, it’s no wonder that ABC decided not to renew Missing for a second season.
The series finale airs next Thursday and will hopefully include enough closure to satisfy the viewers that stuck with it.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Missing has been cancelled? Why do you think the show didn’t succeed? How long should have the show realistically lasted — one season, two, three or more?

I can’t believe a show this good has been cancelled! I loved missing! It had a great storyline and excellent actors! What do ABC ( or viewers and critics ) need to make it good!!! Don’t be stupid ABC and bring it back! You are making a big mistake! To the actors and people that put their heart into it, it’s abc’s loss!!!
Missing was/is a great show!!!!!! BRING IT BACK BRING IT BACK Ashley Judd is a super actress!!!!! Someone start a petition to bring MISSING back!!!! I have never started a petition but I would if someone will tell me how. I know lots of people who watched MISSING every week and loved the show, also being able to watch a first rate actress on TV. COME ON NETWORKS, PICK UP THIS SHOW IF ABC DOESN’T!!
I can’t believe ABC would do this. Missing, was byfar one of the BEST new series. I felt like I was watching a new Ashley Judd Movie every week. I LOVED it. I think Lifetime should pick it up. Women would love to see a woman taking charge, plus someone HAS to do something. You can’t leave us hanging without closure.
I’m shocked!!! “Missing” is one show I made sure I always watched, as well as recorded. Ashley Judd is one of the finest actresses in the business. The whole cast was wonderful and the show was fast paced and kept your interest. I have never (and will never) watch mindless shows like the Kardashians, housewife shows, reality shows or dancing shows. They have no substance and would be a waste of time for me to watch. ABC should rethink their position and keep this show on the air. Obviously their polls are inaccurate.
Loved this show. Never missed an episode. Not surprised it was cancelled because any show that causes you to think, keep up and tune in will not make it. People want fluff, non-thinking shows. If 24 came out now it probably would not make it. And how shows like Private Practice still get renewed. I got so sick of that show I couldn’t watch anymore. Plus shows just don’t get a chance to make it. I never saw commercials for this show or other publicity. It was sink or swim. A least it got somewhat of an ending. Too bad… Read more »
Hi everyone, Don’t get me started. That was a good show and the cast were great. Ashley Judd is great. in that role. They keep all these reality shows and cancelled a good show. Pls bring it back. Jill
Very saddened to learn that Missing has been cancelled. We finally got to watch a show that had savy writing, mult-deminsional characters and superb acting. Please reconsider giving the show another season. I thought the pacing and plot were excellent. Now I dread the thought of some nitwit reality TV show taking Missing’s timeslot. Shame on you ABC!
I am really sorry that the show was not picked-up for a second season. I thought the show was interesting, suspenseful and very well done. I really can’t stand the thought of yet another stupid reality show. Sometimes I think the networks have to realize that a show make take some time to build up the viewership. Of course viewers also need to show some taste and support good shows.
I love this program. Why do you cancel something as thrilling as this? Give it another season please!!!!!
ABC, what did you do to the show lovers. I had scheduled my time for that show, so that I will never miss it. You have lost many views, rethink
I agree Ashley Judd was a prefect candidate for this show Missing! and the rest of the cast as well! I’m just fat up with the other junk that we have to deal with on ABC! This is why I like AMC!
OMG!!!! So much reality TV, can ‘t stand another one! Missing was so well done, kept your interest, please keep it going.
ABC you really suck! I liked this show! The Bourne Identity meets James Bond but this time with a woman! I mean you can’t beat that with those other shows out there! ABC should retire from broadcasting if all there going to make is dancing shows and drama only for women! I’m sorry enough’s enough! we want our Manly shows as well! I would have to say Missing was aimed at men and people who like action packed drama! Instead ABC only wants crap on Cable! I even liked PAN AM! So ABC you are a waste of time and… Read more »
Great show and script – better than most movies. Cable network should pick it up.
I agree with KC Missing was a great show…..dump one of the reality shows instead.
After the first episode I was hooked and could not wait till the following weeks episode.
I think channel 7 should bring it back without a doubt.
I am really sick that TV has turned into nothing but reality shows…..enough….is enough lets bring back good old fashion drama series to TV.
