Becca Winstone’s chase is over. ABC has cancelled Missing, their Thursday night TV series, after one season and 10 episodes.
Starring Ashley Judd, Missing follows a former CIA Agent turned single mom as she searches for her missing son in Europe. The action show also stars Adriano Giannini, Nick Eversman, Cliff Curtis, Tereza Voriskova, and Sean Bean.
Missing got off to a disappointing start on March 15th, registering a 2.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 10.60 million viewers. It was in third place for the demo and second place in total viewership.
In week two, the numbers took a significant drop, to a 1.6 rating with 8.81 million. Over the next several weeks, Missing fell lower and lower. The most recent episode hit a new low with a 1.1 demo rating and 6.37 million total viewers.

Overall, Missing’s been averaging a 1.5 rating with 7.70 million viewers. If they had more episodes in the season, those averages would surely keep sinking lower.
On our ABC Ratings Report Card, which measures the relative demo success of TV shows on the network, Missing has a “D-” for a grade. Of the 22 scripted shows on the network this season, Missing ranks 21st — just above the already-cancelled Charlie’s Angels remake.
With low ratings and steep declines, it’s no wonder that ABC decided not to renew Missing for a second season.
The series finale airs next Thursday and will hopefully include enough closure to satisfy the viewers that stuck with it.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Missing has been cancelled? Why do you think the show didn’t succeed? How long should have the show realistically lasted — one season, two, three or more?

loved missing one of my favorite shows! sad that its cancelled and a little dissapointed with the last episode. you cant end a show forever with her finally getting her son back and her being taken!
sorry missing was canceled could not wait for thursday nite to see the next episode to air can’t believe you let the viewers down by the way you ended the series
So very disappointed Missing is not renewed…..best show on all of television, like a mini movie every show…..my whole family was able to sit down together and watch it, how refreshing. If ratings were down, maybe it was the promoting that needed attention, time slot etc. The quality of this show was outstanding so much so that all in the family including teens enjoyed it and sat on the edge of their seats every show. Which ever executive decided this one, has made a terrible mistake. This show was innovative and I felt on the brink of actually bringing t.v.… Read more »
I am disappointed that the show was cancelled. My mother and I found the series of season 1 on at&t uverse recorded series and after watching the first show we were hooked. We ended up mesmerized and our eyes glued to the Tv as the suspense and intrigue kept building as we ignored phone calls and our normal activities for a moment in time. We love Ashley Judd and her tough rugged handsome husband Sean Bean who starred in “Lord of the Rings” who only left us with the cliff hanger only to be dissappointed of the cancellation of the… Read more »
I double doubt if the ratings fell…. I don’t buy it… Missing was one of the most action packed shows on tv. I’m so sick of these stupid sitcoms that aren’t funny which is tragic that this country is so absorbed in the sitcom mentality… the stations pull this all the time.
You are so right Sparki!! I’ve looked at the list of shows that have been renewed, and to say that I am baffled would be an understatement. All I see here is low-brow humor and utter piffle. Missing and Castle are the only shows that I watch consistently on ABC; hopefully another network picks it up and benefits ABC’s stupidity!!
This was the only show on TV worth watching! So sad to see it cancelled. Hopefully another network will pick it up soon!
that is my favortie show on tv..very disappointed..i kooked forward to it every thursday night…if I couldn’t watch it that night i would watch it on demand next day
loved this show and am very dissapointed it was cancelled!! Great cast and fast moving .I think the time it was on was a poor choice should have been later in the evening .. any chance cable network would pick up?
This was one of the best show. I think the reason for such a low rating is probably that it was showed very late in Australia 9.30 pm. Also if it was shown as one episode rather than double, but for me it didn’t matter as I looked forward to it. Anyone with brain would say this was very good show and where you could learn something. Bring on the season 2!!!
Absolutely loved Missing, what were they thinking canceling it. So so disappointed.
Watching Missing was like watching a mini movie every week. I can only think of 2 shows that were similar: Alias and the old Nikkita, today the programs are not as thrilling as this one was. Ashley Judd has always been a favourite actress of mine and I was glad to see her on tv, plus the show had an amazing backdrop. My suggestion would be to put it in a different time slot if the ratings aren’t doing well, do NOT cancel it!!
We were able to watch the show here, in Australia, where the last episode was shown on 29 May 2012. What a show…! I am almost 50 years old and am free to say that ‘Missing’ was one of the best shows I have ever seen. Its cancellation is obviously a commercial decision, yet a sad one. I think most people who have brains and enjoy using them have been insulted … will the shallow-brain people eventually rule the world? Probably yes and this is not good for it…
That’s two good shows now being cancelled Harry’s Law and Missing. Everyone I know likes the show also, we all looked forward to watching it each week. It looks like all the networks want to show are reality shows which are awful!!!!!!!!!!!
Please, please bring back Missing as it was awesome and reminded me of the 24 series which I thoroughly miss as well! Ashley Judd is a great actress and I always looked forward each week to this show. Please reconsider!!!
In a world filled with ‘reality television’ comes Missing, a show that not only has professional actors, but is also entertaining. By your decision to cancel this show leads me to believe that your viewers opinions no longer matter. If they did, you would take into consideration those of us who prefer watching something other than mindless , mediocre shows with people who have no experience or storyline. This was my favorite show, and one of the few times I sat down to watch TV weekly. If you care anything about your publics opinion, you will reconsider the cancellation of… Read more »
