Becca Winstone’s chase is over. ABC has cancelled Missing, their Thursday night TV series, after one season and 10 episodes.
Starring Ashley Judd, Missing follows a former CIA Agent turned single mom as she searches for her missing son in Europe. The action show also stars Adriano Giannini, Nick Eversman, Cliff Curtis, Tereza Voriskova, and Sean Bean.
Missing got off to a disappointing start on March 15th, registering a 2.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 10.60 million viewers. It was in third place for the demo and second place in total viewership.
In week two, the numbers took a significant drop, to a 1.6 rating with 8.81 million. Over the next several weeks, Missing fell lower and lower. The most recent episode hit a new low with a 1.1 demo rating and 6.37 million total viewers.

Overall, Missing’s been averaging a 1.5 rating with 7.70 million viewers. If they had more episodes in the season, those averages would surely keep sinking lower.
On our ABC Ratings Report Card, which measures the relative demo success of TV shows on the network, Missing has a “D-” for a grade. Of the 22 scripted shows on the network this season, Missing ranks 21st — just above the already-cancelled Charlie’s Angels remake.
With low ratings and steep declines, it’s no wonder that ABC decided not to renew Missing for a second season.
The series finale airs next Thursday and will hopefully include enough closure to satisfy the viewers that stuck with it.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Missing has been cancelled? Why do you think the show didn’t succeed? How long should have the show realistically lasted — one season, two, three or more?

I am so stunned that ABC has cancelled “Missing”!!!!! Even my 9 year old knew what night it was coming on and looked forward to watching it!!! She’s a little young to be watching I know, but it’s better than those reality shows that spreads all over the networks!!! Becca and the Fabulous Stars that she worked with kept me on the edge of my seat just like the show “24” did!!!! I so hope one of the other networks pick up the show!!! “Human Target” was another Fabulous show last year and they cancelled that one as well. What… Read more »
Absolutely loved the show Missing – reminded me of the Bourne Identity flicks. Acting was superb – loved the fact that they traveled throughout Europe to film – excellent show. Please, please, please – I hope someone picks this up and continues where they left off – it’s exciting and keeps you fascinated with the fast paced story lines. Please return, please.
Loved the series!! Watched all of them hopefully another channel will pick it up.
OMG how stupid are those TV Executives – it was one of the best shows I have seen in ten years. The cast was wonderful Ashely Judd, Sean Bean and the others what a great cast, the story lines was great and suspenseful and the scenary magnificent. What were you thinking to cancel this..OMG!!!!!!! The Executives should be “cancelled” not the show. Lets find Becca!!!
We loved Missing. Please bring it back!
I loved the show and the scenery was wonderful. So was the story – why after only 1 season? REALLY?
Everyone I know watched Missing. Could not believe it was not renewed. Ashley Judd is a great actress and the story line was so good. There is never anything other than all those realty shows, which I don’t watch. This was something different we looked forward to watching!!! Bring it back ABC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I believe if it was on better night it would still be on now American idol is off..I loved the show and want more.Ashly Judd is a great actress…great show bring itback..
I rarely comment on my views with regard to TV series, movies, and the quality of entertainment that I view. But I could not believe the tragic loss I felt with the cancellation of this, most exciting and innovating set of programs staring the wonderful Ashley Jud and her gifted list of actors, all of whom did her justice. Ms. Jud was fabulous! And I truly looked forward to each, well written, episode. My only disappointment in the story line was, once found, where to go from THAT POINT. Surely, there must have been a way to continue that storyline.… Read more »
I dont think actual people watching is how they are rated. I believe it has to do with what advertisers are paying. I liked Missing although the son was not very believable but Judd did a good job as always. Human Target also was a good action show and hence cancelled. They just want more stupid lawyers going to bed with each other or even worse more stupid reality shows. Just what we need another talent show ….
I personally really liked the series and looked forward to watching it (as did many of my friends). It resembled a movie and I am an Ashley Judd fan!
We love Missing and it will surely be missed in our home. The characters were phenomenal and the story line was terrific. It reminded us of a Bourne movie traveling throughout Europe. The story line had a few hoaky spots, however, the ever changing surprises kept it alive as well as the European scenes. Many of the TV shows that started new this year, all seem too vanilla and very much alike. This was a show that demonstrated intrigue and family love outside of the US. It was beyond your joe average American TV show.
Missing was one of the absolute best shows I have seen in years! It was fast paced and thought provoking with a stellar cast. It should run for at least one more season as more and more viewers were starting to appreciate it. Bring it back please…….
I love Missing!! We record it and watch it everyone on my family watches it eve my daughter she’s 9.. It kept me on the edge of my seat, please please let another station pick it up! It is one of the best shows I have ever seen.. I loves the ending cause you knew Michael was safe and with his father.. Becca will get away she’s becca!
I thought this was a great show. It had a great plot, great actors, and the scenery was amazing. It had me on the edge of my seat every week. I believe it was destined to fail because of the time slot. You can’t expect great success opposite American Idol. Also, 8PM is still family time. Had it been in a 9PM or 10PM slot it would have been renewed without a doubt. What a shame to loose a show like this to poor planning>
