Becca Winstone’s chase is over. ABC has cancelled Missing, their Thursday night TV series, after one season and 10 episodes.
Starring Ashley Judd, Missing follows a former CIA Agent turned single mom as she searches for her missing son in Europe. The action show also stars Adriano Giannini, Nick Eversman, Cliff Curtis, Tereza Voriskova, and Sean Bean.
Missing got off to a disappointing start on March 15th, registering a 2.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 10.60 million viewers. It was in third place for the demo and second place in total viewership.
In week two, the numbers took a significant drop, to a 1.6 rating with 8.81 million. Over the next several weeks, Missing fell lower and lower. The most recent episode hit a new low with a 1.1 demo rating and 6.37 million total viewers.

Overall, Missing’s been averaging a 1.5 rating with 7.70 million viewers. If they had more episodes in the season, those averages would surely keep sinking lower.
On our ABC Ratings Report Card, which measures the relative demo success of TV shows on the network, Missing has a “D-” for a grade. Of the 22 scripted shows on the network this season, Missing ranks 21st — just above the already-cancelled Charlie’s Angels remake.
With low ratings and steep declines, it’s no wonder that ABC decided not to renew Missing for a second season.
The series finale airs next Thursday and will hopefully include enough closure to satisfy the viewers that stuck with it.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Missing has been cancelled? Why do you think the show didn’t succeed? How long should have the show realistically lasted — one season, two, three or more?

I to go with Lou Ann ,s comments I have waited all summer for it to return Big mistake am so tired of not being able to find something worth while to watch
‘Missing’ was a show that appealed to all ages and sexes with limited violence and sex, thus could be watched as a family, by anyone. If someone in my family missed an episode, they needed to be updated. With a gripping and emotional storyline it’s a shame that this is not what sells and that that is the bottom line. Regardless, they should bring back the show, trust that we, the faithful, can take it to the next level and see the return of good t.v.
Extremely disappointing. I finally had a reason to watch ABC aside from DWTS. Not everyone is of the Jersey Shore/Honey Boo-Boo mindset and we look to the networks for quality TV. Like others have said, maybe, hopefully it will be picked up by a network with some sense.
I, like so many others, am sick, sick, sick of the trash being shown on TV now. I really miss the “old” days when we only had 3 or 4 channels, and there were good, wholesome, family shows on every night! I cannot believe the stupid people who actually enjoy watching these “reality tv” idiots screaming, cussing and just acting plain stupid! And it’s so put on for the cameras! Doesn’t show too much intelligence! I agree with the many other fans of “Missing”. Finally, something comes along with an actual plot that keeps you hanging at the end of… Read more »
Am SO disapointed with ABC cancelling a great show, they didn’t give it time. I agree with whoever wrote that ABC must’ve wanted another kid comedy with no substance to it. This show had good adventure and good story line….shame on you ABC!!
How disappointing. It was a really good show. If the “suits” would recall, M.A.S.H. did not do well in its first season. If it doesn’t have teenage vampires, I guess a good show doesn’t stand a chance for a renewal.
What a disappointment. This show had it all—great storyline, fabulous acting! Somebody at ABC has really goofed!!
i’m sadden and disappointed that missing has been cancelled–such an action filled hour-i was glued to my seat week after week–this was one of my very favorite programs–seems like all the great shows are cancelled and the bad ones seem to linger–there are way too many mindless comedies on the air and not enough programs that can really hold you interest week after week–i think our brains have gone to mush–there aren’t alot of programs like missing on tv–each week is a thriller in a different country–seems like every season they cancel one of my remaining favorites–legend of the seeker… Read more »
I am very disappointed! This show was full of great action, suspense, and drama. Sadly I was unable to watch it on Thursday at its time, but DVR is a blessing. My daughters and I would watch it together on Saturday. We were always excited and looked forward to the next show. I was very interested to see what happened with Becca. Please reconsider!!!!!
How disapointing….best show in a long time. The whole cast was SO good.
We LOVED Missing and it was a HIT with our family! We are extremely disappointed that it was cancelled and hope that another network will pick it up and run with it! Ashley Judd is too talented an actress to not have it pay off! PLEASE, PLEASE someone pick it up and bring it back for another season!
Unbelievable! Finally a show worth watching, suspenseful, exciting, intriguing with extremely great acting by Ashley Judd and the whole cast. I couldn’t wait until the next episode and now it’s gone! ABC, WHAT ARE YOU THINKING? This was such a refreshing change from shows offered on other networks like Law & Order and CSI and NCIS! PLEASE BRING BACK MISSING!
I am VERY disappointed this show cancelled. It was one of my favorite shows. I sure hope another network picks it up. It was one of the better shows out there.
Ridiculous that they cancelled this. We are force fed ‘reality’ television now and have such little quality, original programming. Was so looking forward to this season and their search for Becca! Ashley Judd is amazing. I would watch her read the phone book if they aired it.
Huge mistake, ABC.
Hope they do make the move to cable a la Southland.
Please bring it back! I was just going to look at the Fall lineup to see when it was starting…how disappointing. Ashley you did a fantastic job, you should sell the series to another network or they should have tried a new to slot first.
