The saga of NBC’s medical disaster series continues.
Trauma revolves around a group of brave first responder paramedics in San Francisco. The high-action series is populated by an ensemble cast that includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
Back in October, NBC indicated they weren’t ordering any additional episodes of Trauma beyond the initial 13 episode order, effectively cancelling the series. Then, in the wake of the failure of The Jay Leno Show, they ordered seven more episodes to fill primetime space.
When Trauma returned to the NBC schedule after a three month hiatus, the ratings were even worse than they were back in November. If the execs weren’t happy with the ratings before, they were very likely regretting their decision to order additional installments.
According to the Futon Critic, NBC has now cut their additional episode order from seven to five installments. That brings the season total to 18 episodes.
The last episode of the season, and almost certainly the series, will air on April 26th. No word yet if the producers adapted episode 18 so that it could serve as a series finale or if viewers will be left hanging.
What do you think? Are you sorry that Trauma’s episode order has been cut? Are you holding onto hope that it will be back for season two?

Oh man, I liked this show. I think it got better after that three month break. And cutting it off with things between the characters getting really interesting just sucks.
But, NBC hasn’t shown itself to be any good at programming so, oh well. Too bad Trauma wasn’t on one of the cable networks.
Very sad to see this show end! I loved watching it every week, and hope that NBC correct its mistake.
maybe if Trauma wan’t up against ‘Dancing with the Stars’ it would do better. A different timeslot maybe? Even a different night? I only watch a few shows on NBC and this was one of them. Keeping Mercy over Trauma is a mistake. There are many shows that became ‘ classics’ that didn’t do well the first season – Seinfeld, Frasier, Cheers just to name a few. At least let them film one more to bring ‘closure’ to the show. I guess I will go back to watching CBS. Please reconsider your decision!
This was a great show. The characters definately keep the show going. Rabbit is my favorite. I couldn’t imagine the show with any other characters, and they teamed them up so well as partners. The show had a very good story line keeping suspense on what was going to happen next on a 911 call, and the drama between the characters made it an overall hit. I will miss this show. They at least need to give us one more episode so we can see what happens. But it really should not be cancelled at all. Say yes to season… Read more »
It’s truly a shame that television programs like this get cancelled. What makes this show great is that it has a good heart, much like it’s lead in, Chuck. I watch a lot of TV, and although I have my favorite prime time shows for each day of the week, Mondays at 7 and 8 Central are the only must not miss, appointment TV on my schedule. Please, NBC, save these programs. The world has enough “idiot programming”, mindless reality shows and dance/karaoke/popularity contests. What it needs is more programming that has a soul and inspires the best in people,… Read more »
Will miss the show…love the characters, the drama and the story! I can’t believe that NBC is canceling one of this years best shows.
That was horrible. It just ended…there was no wrap up, no closure. just ened in the middle of a good story. like what happens with nancy and rabbit? What happens between nancy and her partner? I mean there are now so many questions I have over what will happen with the story line. I know the world is money hungry but I would think if you had so many people voicing there thoughts. That someone would be listening. What would be the point of people saying what was on there minds, if no one listens. Not all show have a… Read more »
I wish NBC would reconsider picking up this show for another season. This is NOT the same as other medical dramas! However, since ER’s early years, I’ve not enjoyed a show on NBC this much. Time slots are important. If enough people could experiance the first 10 minutes of an episode, THEY WOULD BE HOOKED! Don’t drop it yet. There are too many shows out there that have no spin, no twist, and no brain needed to watch. This is not one of those shows.
I absolutely love this show. It has a great premise and likeable characters who I can’t get enough of. They are the type of characters that are everyday people that everyday people can relate to. NBC, please don’t cancel Trauma. I want to know what’s going to happen with Nancy and Rabbitt, and Marissa and Casey, Glen, Boone, Tyler. All of them. I love them!!!
Love this show!! Please dont end it!!! Its real unlike Grey’s and ER!! I am a proud Medic and I am so proud of this show!!
Why are they shutting this show down??? We love it!! Its real!! Its really what happens in EMS not everyone ******** each other like Grey’s and ER! Its real!! I hope they keep it!
I dont understand why you want to cancel it. Why dont you just go ahead and throw your career and a whole bunch of money into the abyss. My friends and I only wathch that channel because of Trauma! if there are 23 of my friends and myself that means that the ratio compared to the world is like a Gazillion dollars in the hole! So good luck keeping your jobs and being the most hated people by most former paramedics and future paramedics! how sad is it for a 14year old to put you and your workers who support… Read more »
YOU CAN NOT END THE SHOW!!!! Its such a good show!! When I watch it, I feel like becoming a paramedic or be someone who saves lives!!
There is still a chance. Tonight is the last episode of the season. I work on the show and they only filmed 18. We will know in a couple of weeks if they will add a second season. NBC told production not to tear down the sets on Treasure Island yet, so even they aren’t sure what is happening…Don’t give up hope yet….
Please don’t cancel. My husband and I love this show, Monday nights are a good time
to show it too. It’s not exactly a medical drama as much as it relates to first responders.
