In 2009, both Southland and Medium were cancelled by NBC but were then saved by other networks. Three long-running shows were recently cancelled last month and it looked like each had a good shot of being saved as well.
A couple weeks later, Law & Order and Ghost Whisperer have been denied a second chance and now, The New Adventures of Old Christine has as well.
The New Adventures of Old Christine follows a neurotic single mom (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) who has a hard time juggling a relationship with responsibilities at home and work. Others in the cast include Hamish Linklater, Wanda Sykes, Trevor Gagnon, Clark Gregg, Emily Rutherfurd, Tricia O’Kelley, and Alex Kapp Horner.
The sitcom has been a moderate performer for CBS from the beginning and has ended up on the bubble each year. For the past two years, ABC has been ready to pick up the show if CBS dropped it. Those were in the days when ABC wasn’t having much luck finding successful sitcoms of their own.
When CBS cancelled Old Christine this year, the alphabet network wasn’t as interested anymore because ABC already has some successful sitcoms with several new ones waiting in the wings.
This season, Old Christine aired opposite ABC sitcoms and didn’t fare very well. As a result, the network has decided not to pick up the Julia Louis-Dreyfus sitcom for season six.
The final episode of The New Adventures of Old Christine aired on May 12th on CBS. After five seasons and 88 episodes, there won’t be a final episode to wrap up the series.
On the positive side, reruns will begin airing on Lifetime and on local stations across the country in the fall.
What do you think? Should ABC have picked up Old Christine for season six? How would you have ended the show?

this is a great sitcom, very disappointed that they cancelled it. watched it all six years and am forced to watch the reruns for entertainmet. less and less to watch on more and more channels.
I just found this show a few months ago on Lifetime and I’m OBSESSED with it! This show is hilarious!! I just got on the internet to see when it is on and found that it was cancelled! So disappointing! I constantly check lifetime to see if it is on. I beg that this show be picked back up. This show is waaay too funny not to be!!
OMG, i just started watching this show on lifetime in the evenings, it is so funny, love all the characters. Why do all the great shows get cancel, but all the crap remains on tv, i am so sick of all these cop shows csi etc gawd we seriously need a good comedy to brighten your day once in a while.
You are crazy CBS. Put it back on!!!
I miss this show. What going on CBS??
I have recently started watching it on lifetime as well and it is so funny. Best show I’ve seen in a long time. I can’t believe they took it off the air. So bumbed 🙁
I don’t understand why networks give up on good shows so quickly! That’s it! I’m sticking to HBO & Showtime. Everytime I like a show, it gets yanked and all that’s left are the same old hospital, cop, spy & reality shows. How about something unique for a change?
I cannot believe this show was canceled. Everyone in my family and all of my friends and their families LOVE this show!!! The entire cast is a riot. The writing is brilliant. Please Please Please Bring this show back. We watch all of the re-runs…but have been waiting for the new season to start..This show won an award(s). Very disappointing.
CBS needs to fire the person who made the decission to cancel, The new adventures of old Christine and the person making the decissions at ABC and decided not to pick it up also needs to be fired. For one simple reason they are blind and deaf. Why else would they have choosen to cancel the most hillarious sitcom I’ve watched in a very long time.
yess please pick this show up! its been so long since there was a real funny show out there!
someone, anyone pick this show up!
what a great loss! even without warning… there had to be millions wanting to find out more! please be the one to at least have the courage to bring this gem to its well deserved ending!
A brillilant cast, great acting and always smart and funny. I cannot believe this show was cancelled. Old Adventures of New Christina was one of my all time favorite shows. I don’t watch much t.v. too busy. But I always taped this show. Shame on C.B.S. for cancelling. I hope another station is smart enough to pick up this show. If you recall Seinfeld was cancelled for a time also. Ridiculous
Please, for the love of god, would a network pick up OLD KRISTINE, it’s a hilarious show. We’ve all been waiting for it.
I agree…this show is a riot! I’ve started catching all the re-runs lately on Lifetime & now I’m hooked. So, I’ve been searching to see when a new line up will be on & just found out it won’t. I can’t beleive they cancelled it! Julia & Wanda are some of the funniest ladies on tv – what a great match up. The every day off the wall comedy topics remind me of the old Sienfield days. Julia is an over the top comedian with her extreme expressions & a delight to watch -she lights up a scene (as she… Read more »
The last funny sitcom on TV, now gone! Oh wait we still have the office but at the end of this season when Steve Carell leaves that’s it. Only reality crap left!
