Tonight, Numb3rs finishes off its sixth season with episode 118, “Cause and Effect.” Will the show be back next season? A decision hasn’t been made yet but lots of people are betting that it will be cancelled.
Numb3rs follows FBI Agent Don Eppes (Rob Morrow) and his genius brother, Charlie (David Krumholtz), who helps the authorities solve cases with mathematics. The cast also features Judd Hirsch (as their father), Alimi Ballard, Dylan Bruno, Navi Rawat, Aya Sumika, and Peter MacNicol.
The series debuted in January 2005 and has long been a successful player for CBS on Friday nights. In season one, Numb3rs averaged a 3.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic and about 11.1 million viewers. They went up in season two, with an average of a 3.3 rating and 11.7 million viewers. Viewership has fallen since then however and last season, Numb3rs scored a 2.2 and 10.2 million.
This season, Numb3rs’ ratings have dropped further still — averaging a 1.8 rating and 8.26 million viewers each week. As a result of the decline in ratings, CBS (which is having a very good season) decided to cut back on the number of episodes and reduced their season order from 22 to 16 installments.

The official reason for the decrease is that CBS had too much programming and needed space to try out new series. Next week, Numb3rs’ timeslot will be occupied by a new show, Miami Medical.
CBS has maintained that the fate of Numb3rs hasn’t been decided yet but, considering the series’ production costs and ratings, it seems fairly certain that the show is done.
In fact, ABC and FOX are betting on it. The networks have already cast Morrow and Krumholtz in new pilots.
Morrow will star in a dramatic pilot called The Whole Truth for ABC, opposite Joely Richardson. He’ll play a fiercely competitive and successful defense attorney who is close friends with his equally talented courtroom adversary (Richardson). Whole Truth is being produced by Jerry Bruckheimer.
Meanwhile, Krumholtz has been cast in a comedy pilot for FOX called Tax Man. The project’s being produced by Ron Howard and stars Krumholtz as an IRS Agent who’s trying to find nobility in his work. Judy Greer recently joined the cast.
If CBS does decide to bring Numb3rs back for another season, both Morrow and Krumholtz will be obligated to return. However, the other networks wouldn’t cast them in new pilots unless they felt it was a very strong possibility that Numb3rs would indeed be cancelled.
What do you think? Would you like to see Numb3rs return for a seventh season or is it time to say goodbye to the Eppes?

I just finished watching season 6 on netflix. I was off to school with no TV for the past 5 years. Numb3rs is amazing! It’s got action, education, and good personal relationships, without the raunchy, cursing, super gory stuff. It’s a show I feel good about watching, even if my little ones are running around. I LOVE Numb3rs and the CAST. PLEASE bring it back.
I agree with all the comments – bring it back!!!!!!!!!!!!
Numbers is one of the best shows on TV…..teaches why Math is so important and how it is a part of everyday life not just in the science/math realms. It makes math interesting and possibly entinces kids to explore that area more. It also shows the closeness of a family which is a very important value to stress. There is “romance” with little or no “raunchyness”….We think it is a real quality show which would be a shame to cancel as there are few real quality shows being produced.
I cannot believe that they are cancelling this show. I learned a lot from the show. It was so well written and I think that they should at least have one more season to have an actual series finally. I mean I am so mad that it was cancelled.
The cancellation of Numb3rs is a sad commentary on the state of television in general. Numb3rs is original and thought provoking, and is a necessary public service program. In a time when education is in crisis, any program that promotes science and math, should be give every chance for survival even if it’s cost and ratings aren’t the most desirable. The rewards that the show reaps of greater value than mere monetary gain. Let’s hope CBS comes to it’s senses and brings Numb3rs back.
Numb3rs a amazing show, I have watch all episodes and re runs for a long time. I wish you would bring it back, The Language of Mathematics is its one of a kind. In this show you and how endless it can be, Please bring Numb3rs back with the same cast.
agreed, bring it back, one of the best shows i’ve seen in a while
I THINK THAT YOU SHOULD PUT NUMBERS BACK TO TV. I CAN PROMISE YOU THAT IT IS A GREAT TV SHOW. IT HAS ALSO MADE SOME PEOPLE REALIZE THAT MATH IS NOT THAT BAD OR THAT BORING OF A SUBJECT. I USE TO HATE MATH NOW THAT I HAVE WATCHED NUMBERS I HAVE FOUND THAT I REALLY DO LIKE MATH. YOU CAN USE IT IN SO MANY DIFFERENT WAYS THAT I DID NOT THINK YOU COULD. I AM GREATFUL FOR NUMBERS I DROPPED OUT OF SCHOOL AT 16 I NEVER WOULD TAKING MY GED TEST BECAUSE I WAS SO SCARED… Read more »
Please bring back Numb3rs with the original cast: Rob Morrow and David Krumholtz. I have been watching Numb3rs all week on Netflix.
I would hate for NUMBERS to be cancelled. It’s an intelligently written show who’s premise really gets people thinking about………NUMBERS…..and how their applications truly do affect every aspect of our daily lives. Plus the use of NUMBERS to help solve crimes is uncharted TV territory. But like most truly clever, original, captivating, ideas……let’s cancel it and put some crapped up schlock in it’s place. Thanks for the who gives a crap attitude about what the viewing audience wants. This was one of the most intelligent shows written. It gave us a different perspective and who knows……..may have even awakened an… Read more »
