Yahoo is getting into the television show business. The Internet company has ordered two full-length scripted comedy series, reports Variety. They will be officially announced at Yahoo’s presentation at the Digital Content NewFronts on Monday.
Other Space will revolve around a group of misfit space adventurers who stumble upon an alternate universe. The series will be executive produced by Paul Feig (Freaks & Geeks, Bridesmaids).
Sin City Saints will follow the adventures of a pro basketball expansion team from Las Vegas. Executive producer Mike Tollin (Smallville, One Tree Hill) will team with director Bryan Gordon (Curb Your Enthusiasm).
Yahoo has ordered eight half-hour episodes of each and plans to release all installments at once, ala Netflix. They’ll debut late this year and in 2015.
What do you think? Do you think that you’ll check out these shows when they’re released?
I enjoyed Other Space once I found out about it. If you want people to watch your programming, you have to let them know it;s out there.
Now that Other Space has been released, I can say: It’s AWESOME! Great show. Please watch it!
Agreed! I do hope it returns for a second season. Great show!
…if Yahoo reminds me where to watch it, I’ll give “other Space” a try.
Sci-fi and sports – a universe of possibilities in between that seems to have been discounted. I would certainly give both series the same chance as any other. I watched the Netflix show Lillehammer and it opened my eyes to a lot of worthless preconceptions about the value of going with the branded networks. I still enjoy it and now leave my misconceptions at the door when I go looking for entertainment.
I won’t be watching either one. The only thing more boring than sci-fi is sports.
