The axe keeps flying over at TNT. The cable channel already cancelled Dallas and Franklin & Bash and now, they’ve cancelled Perception as well. There won’t be a fourth season.
Perception follows Doctor Daniel Pierce (Eric McCormack), a talented and schizophrenic neuropsychiatrist, as he assists his former student, FBI Special Agent Kate Moretti (Rachael Leigh Cook), solve complex cases. Other castmembers include Kelly Rowan, Arjay Smith, LeVar Burton, and Scott Wolf.
The show is currently in its third season. Ten of the season’s 15 episodes have aired so far and have averaged 2.78 million viewers with a 0.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic. That’s down about 10% when compared to season two.
While Perception certainly isn’t TNT’s biggest series, it’s been a respectable performer. It seems that the cancellation is at least in part due to the cable channel’s desire to move towards airing edgier series.
It’s worth noting that Legends, a show sited as being more “edgy”, drew only 1.53 million viewers and has yet to be cancelled or renewed.
The final five episodes of Perception will being airing on February 17, 2015. It’s unclear if they will give viewers any kind closure to the series.
ABC Studios produces Perception so there’s a chance that they might try to find another home for the series. There will be 39 episodes at the end of season three — a far cry from the typical 88 episode minimum needed for a syndication package.
What do you think? Do you like the Perception TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled, or renewed for a fourth season? Would you watch it on another channel?
One of the better shoes on TNT or any other channel. Why would you stop such a good show. It is actually one of the more interesting shows around. Please don’t cancel it. But I would watch it on other channels.
My favorite show! Sharp content. Would definitely watch if picked up elsewhere.
Why would these idiots cancel Perception. Its such a brilliantly written serial. One of very few non idiotic ones…with a good cast …
Please bring it back…
That last episode left a lot to be revealed. It’s too bad these TV “execs” have it so wrong when it comes to what shows should be kept and what should be axed. Too bad they don’t live in the real world. Not the reality world. What a bummer.
It is crazy that tnt keeps getting rid of the best shows. Perception is definitely a keeper!!!
Good series, should not have been canceled.
Zombies, vampires, mindless sitcoms, blase’ cop shows, and mind usurping reality shows rule the networks. It’s called revenue, the most important factor when determining survival of a show. Meanwhile, quality shows such as Perception are axed. In a perfect world, we should have the survival of truly quality shows based on same.
I love perception. They cant stop.
I can’t believe this was cancelled. I love this show!
The stories were great and I loved all the characters! Not everyone is obsessed with reality TV!
I love perception, please don’t stop,it’s the best programme on tv
I found this series after having brain surgery! I found the show to be well written, and enjoyable. I would watch on any channel, I definitely have a better appreciation of my surgery and my doctors, after seeing these episodes.
I think that Perception was a brilliant show with an incredibly unique concept. As such, I think the fact it was cancelled is a real kick in the face. I loved that show it sucked like hell when I saw there was no season 4, and all that was left was 5 episodes. I really hope that ABC does try find it a new channel to be aired on, cause otherwise throwing it out is just a waste of brilliant and creative writing. The actors they cast did a fantastic job as well on the show, and it would be… Read more »
I really enjoyed this show. I would love to see it come back. Would watch it on any channel it is on.
Linda, you are so right. We finally get a good show with depth. Maybe the dumbing down of America has reached our living room. Zombies are the new PhD entertainment
Perception is an excellent TV series and should be renewed for a fourth season. There aren’t many TV series which address mental illness.
This was a show about the functioning of the BRAIN, for god’s sake. Which means it could have gone on for years. Cancelling it was an incredibly stupid decision. A waste of bright, intelligent talent and inspired writing. Zombies and vampires are so much more relatable, of course. Bravo (in Canada) carried it. ARE YOU LISTENING BRAVO?
