The axe keeps flying over at TNT. The cable channel already cancelled Dallas and Franklin & Bash and now, they’ve cancelled Perception as well. There won’t be a fourth season.
Perception follows Doctor Daniel Pierce (Eric McCormack), a talented and schizophrenic neuropsychiatrist, as he assists his former student, FBI Special Agent Kate Moretti (Rachael Leigh Cook), solve complex cases. Other castmembers include Kelly Rowan, Arjay Smith, LeVar Burton, and Scott Wolf.
The show is currently in its third season. Ten of the season’s 15 episodes have aired so far and have averaged 2.78 million viewers with a 0.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic. That’s down about 10% when compared to season two.
While Perception certainly isn’t TNT’s biggest series, it’s been a respectable performer. It seems that the cancellation is at least in part due to the cable channel’s desire to move towards airing edgier series.
It’s worth noting that Legends, a show sited as being more “edgy”, drew only 1.53 million viewers and has yet to be cancelled or renewed.
The final five episodes of Perception will being airing on February 17, 2015. It’s unclear if they will give viewers any kind closure to the series.
ABC Studios produces Perception so there’s a chance that they might try to find another home for the series. There will be 39 episodes at the end of season three — a far cry from the typical 88 episode minimum needed for a syndication package.
What do you think? Do you like the Perception TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled, or renewed for a fourth season? Would you watch it on another channel?
I can’t believe you cancelled Perceptuon. Again another stupid move TNT.
I cannot believe Perception got cancelled! It was one of the most interesting TV shows of all time. What should an audience do to fight for this series? Really. This show is worth fighting for. Even if TNT won’t get it back, I do hope other channel would. I also hope the producers won’t give up on this show!
Perception needs to come back on another station…one of the best shows on TV ! Very disappointed with TNT !
It is ridiculous that intelligent writing and acting gets rewarded with termination. What does that say about our society? That these retarded reality shows last longer than something that makes you think. I am very disappointed. I am so tired of being excited by a new brilliant series, only to have it cancelled once I have become invested.
If TNT is canceling the best show in their line-up, I hope another network picks up. It is a great show.
Love the show. No wonder most of my TV viewing consists of previously aired pvr’ed series and net flicks
The cancellation of Perception confirms my belief that the decision makers at TNT take their advise from Curly Larry and Moe! Hey,TNT are you reading this, make one intelligent move in your over-paid “careers”and renew this show.
i agree with diana. the program did make people think and i also thought the acting was exceptional. I also think it should be weekly. i hope another network picks it up.
I am so sad and angry that perception is cancelled. I loved the show’s logic, Eric’s professor talks and how the show approached some mental health issues. We don’t see enough about people with mental health disabilities and how they cope.
Maybe TNT will come out with another police show…We enjoyed there was an element of teaching, a little difficult sometimes to follow when he went into delusion. It is to bad that missing show, consistently pulling the shows, airing, not airing…
Yes, I would really like to see Perception returned, but to a weekly basis. TNT, give us viewers a break. Edgy!!!!! Good grief, that is all we need. I love mysteries. I detest reality shows, and shows about the occult, supernatural, zombies, “modern families”, corrupt & perverse lawyers, etc. If any of these describe TNT’s plans, it will just be one more network that I will not watch! And the world can manage extremely well without another so-called celebrity talk show. Even HGTV is worthless now, in my opinion. If the viewers would check the internet, they could investigate the… Read more »
I love Perception; it is a smart, clever show. They should put it back on the air I would watch it anywhere. Not every show has to be packed with sex or violence.
This is so disappointing! TNT, what are you thinking? The program actually makes the viewer THINK. The acting is exceptional, as well. So tired of all the CSI clones, which ridiculously embellish what happens in real life. So very sorry to see this program canceled. Hopefully, ABC will pick it up. However, it should be on regularly for an entire season (unlike how TNT has aired it). When the viewer can’t depend on when the network will air a program, one gets frustrated and loses interest.
It’s propably because this show makes us viewers think, that they cancel it…
I kept watching for Perception on TNT and always disappointed to see a ballgame of one kind or another. Since I don’t watch ballgames I CHANGED THE CHANNEL! I kept going back and kept getting disappointed so I decided to Google it. Imagine my dismay to see that a show that appears to be geared to the more intelligent viewer is coming to a close. Is TNT saying that people who think don’t matter? Perception is an exceptional thought provoking program that keeps you on the edge of your seat! I really enjoyed Perception and am sad to see it… Read more »
Perception is one of the smartest, well done shows. Really, Edgy? What does that mean?
I hope it comes back. Looking forward to the show (So networks-pick it up)!
I think the fact that is not on for a full season is part of the reason.
LONGER Seasons would help!
