The axe keeps flying over at TNT. The cable channel already cancelled Dallas and Franklin & Bash and now, they’ve cancelled Perception as well. There won’t be a fourth season.
Perception follows Doctor Daniel Pierce (Eric McCormack), a talented and schizophrenic neuropsychiatrist, as he assists his former student, FBI Special Agent Kate Moretti (Rachael Leigh Cook), solve complex cases. Other castmembers include Kelly Rowan, Arjay Smith, LeVar Burton, and Scott Wolf.
The show is currently in its third season. Ten of the season’s 15 episodes have aired so far and have averaged 2.78 million viewers with a 0.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic. That’s down about 10% when compared to season two.
While Perception certainly isn’t TNT’s biggest series, it’s been a respectable performer. It seems that the cancellation is at least in part due to the cable channel’s desire to move towards airing edgier series.
It’s worth noting that Legends, a show sited as being more “edgy”, drew only 1.53 million viewers and has yet to be cancelled or renewed.
The final five episodes of Perception will being airing on February 17, 2015. It’s unclear if they will give viewers any kind closure to the series.
ABC Studios produces Perception so there’s a chance that they might try to find another home for the series. There will be 39 episodes at the end of season three — a far cry from the typical 88 episode minimum needed for a syndication package.
What do you think? Do you like the Perception TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled, or renewed for a fourth season? Would you watch it on another channel?
I loved the show Perception. I am very disappointed that it isn’t coming back. It was interesting, thought provoking and different. .
I just found out Perception is not being renewed for the 2015 season on TNT.
This is sad! I enjoyed watching Eric McCormack and the rest of the cast every week !
Love Perception. Why do they cancell all the good shows. Rizilli and Isles with Perception followig was a great eve of tv. Not thrilled with the new shows. Everything doesnt have to be blood and guts. Love Eric. Bring it back!!!!
I concur!
If the station would provide a longer season, perhaps viewers wouldn’t be turned off. Personally, I no longer look at TNT for shows because just as I become involved in the storyline, the show stops. Perception is/was one of the better shows written today. It’s a shame TNT does this to its shows.
Perception is a very good show, excellent plots and actors. I do hope ABC or Netflix will take over series. It would be such a shame to cancel the series. Hopefully, another station picks up the series
I am so tired of good shows being cancelled. This is very disappointing, I am through watching this channel. There is so much trash on television, and it continues to air while good shows continue to be cancelled. Perception is not only entertaining but original, intelligent and fun. I know that my refusal to watch TNT won’t hurt them any not will they care to lose me as a viewer, but I am seriously done with tnt. They are cancelling it to air edgier shows What do we have to look forward to?another ridiculous vampire show? some silly teen show?… Read more »
Perception should not have been cancelled. It may have not had all the hype of fighting and things blowing up every episode, but it was different and fun and well written with great characters. I hope it gets picked up on another channel. Boo on TNT!!!!
Maybe it didn’t have such an off the wall schedule more viewers could of enjoyed it.
One of the best shows around in ages!! Not enough exposure. Can’t believe my other favs going too franklin n bash and Dallas. Meanwhile ****** housewives beating on each other passes for entertainment!!?? Will watch these 3 shows on another network any time. Eric mc cormack , you were terrific!!!
I’m disappointed. I really liked Perception! It made you think and was entertaining at the same time.
I love this show and was looking forward to the new season. I am very disappointed it is cancelled, and I hope another channel picks it up!!
Our household (3 adults) LOVED Perception! We are very upset that it has been cancelled. We would certainly watch it if it got picked up by another station. Outraged in Oregon.
I think it is a tremendous show. Sometimes networks need to stop thinking about changes. The show had hit its stride. Just to show what major networks still don’t about their audiences we need look no further than Star Trek. Go for the older audiences and renew stability.

Very well said regarding older audience and stability
If TNT doesn’t renew Perception another network should pick it up.
It’s really a shame that many of the quality shows are cancelled in lieu of the insipid sitcoms and raunchy programming. It the effort to attach the 18-49 sect, television believes that it needs to cater to the average unsophisticated viewer, hence, good quality shows like Perception get discontinued. In this case, nearly 3 million viewers of this show are going to be disappointed that Perception has been cancelled.
I loved this show too. Great plots and great characters. I love the way they all worked together to make the show exciting and suspenseful. I looked forward to new episodes each summer. Hate to lose this one!
