A woman playing professional baseball is an unusual story but FOX was betting that the new Pitch TV series would help them attract an audience to Thursday nights — a highly competitive evening for television. Has this “big swing” been successful? Is Pitch worth watching? Cancel or keep it?
The Pitch TV show follows the inspirational story of a young pitcher (Kylie Bunbury) who becomes the first woman to play Major League Baseball. Although she’s been groomed for this moment for much of her life, she’s embarking on a baseball career under the glare of the white-hot media spotlight. The rest of the cast includes Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Ali Larter, Mark Consuelo, Dan Lauria, Mo McRae, Meagan Holder, and Tim Jo.
The series launched on September 22nd to a 1.06 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.23 million viewers. It was a disappointing start in the ratings for sure, especially since the series had garnered a lot of positive reviews.
Unfortunately, the numbers haven’t gotten any better and the numbers have fallen each week. The fourth installment, which aired October 13th, attracted a dismal 0.76 in the demo with 2.91 million viewers.
It’s important to remember that CBS has been airing highly-rated NFL football games for the first four weeks of the season. Some of that audience might otherwise watch Pitch. Though NFL football won’t be airing on CBS on October 27th, a game will be airing on NFLN. Unless FOX moves Pitch to another night, the series will be airing opposite football for awhile.
Though the ratings are very poor, FOX probably won’t cancel Pitch just yet. Most of the network’s programming is struggling in the ratings right now so they have many timeslot problems to solve. But, will Pitch survive to see a second season? That seems highly unlikely unless they can figure out a way to improve the ratings.
But, what do you think? Do you like watching the Pitch TV series on FOX? Should it be cancelled? Is it worth watch? Cancel or keep it?
Keep the show. Go Ginny..
I am catching up on this show through Fox on Demand. It’s so fun and entertaining! It’s hard for me to find a show that I will stick with. This is so refreshing because it’s not full of blood, gore, extensive cursing, and sexual stuff… I really hope they don’t cancel this show. Why on earth put a show, a new one at that, up against one of the USA’s most poplar sports? Fix the time slots, advertise it more, and let us enjoy a decent show even if it doesn’t have TWD ratings!
I and all of my family love Pitch! I truly hope it is renewed.
Pitch is a clever show that has great acting and a interesting plot. Please don’t cancel this show. Many of us canadians are enjoying it very much
One of the best shows in a long time. Not smart to run it against football. Give it a better slot and another chance.
Love watching this show and pvr it every week. Please keep it.
We watch the show every week. We have it DVR’d so we’re sure we’ll never miss it. We are big baseball fans & find a lot of the comments, plays, & strategy seem realistic between the players, coaches & management. Please keep the show. The characters are very likable!
Great show and I don’t even care about baseball
I’m not a baseball fan and still I love this show. It makes me think I should reconsider baseball. This show is what TV should be – family level entertainment at its best
This show is very imaginative yet realistic and unpredictable. Lead actress is super convincing in her role. America needs shows like this. Keep it on.
Love the show!! Love the characters!! Smart, entertaining, and I’m a HUGE baseball fan!!
Pitch is favorite TV show in my house and can not wait for it to come on and never want it to end. Please do not take it off the air. If we can not watch it Thursday nights we record it and watch it Friday. Mike lawson is my favorite
Keep the Show!
Please keep this show on… can lawson and ginny bang it put already
I have been watching since the beginning. I like the show, it has a great cast. What does Fox really expecting putting anything up against ABC’s Thursday night line up? You have to have realistic expectations about the ratings
