The AMC series has not been performing well in the ratings but, according to a listing in the Backstage industry casting paper, Rubicon has been renewed for year two. Here’s their info:
Rubicon (Drama, AMC) A think-tank analyst comes to the realization that his colleagues are not who he thought they were and may be a part of a covert organization secretly manipulating world politics and affairs. James Badge Dale stars. Casting: Avy Kaufman Casting, 180 Varick St., 16th Fl., New York, NY 10014. Premiered Aug. 1. Renewed.
Last Sunday’s episode attracted just a 0.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 997,000 total viewers. That pales when compared to AMC’s Mad Men which scored a 0.6 demo rating and 2.1 million viewers.
The Backstage listing seems like it’s most likely a typo or error because, for now, they seem to be the only one saying there will be another year.
The season finale of Rubicon, “You Can Never Win,” is set to air next Sunday on AMC.
What do you think? Would you like to see Rubicon return for another year or should it be cancelled?

Rubicon – Best show since “The Wire”!
Outstanding television program. Very intelligent . . . a rarity for TV in this day and time.
This is truly a wonderful show!
I LOVE Rubicon and I hope they extend it for many seasons to come!!! It is one of only a few TV shows worth watching. It’s intelligent–makes me think. I watch it on-demand; however, they are slow about adding episodes to the on-demand list–it seems to be a couple of episodes behind actual airing on TV.
OMG absolutely renew — slow, exciting & excellent.
Rubicon is well acted, thoughtful, with fantastic dialogue. But it does need to be made available for people who have not watched preceding episodes or they will never understand what is going on. Please renew this show!
Rubicon is the BEST SHOW on Television. It absolutely Deserves another season – it is amazing – and AMC has to renew it!!!! And then they have to have a marathon! People who watch are obsessed! It is brilliant!
I find myself watching the first run of Rubicon instead of Dexter on Showtime. The characters and writing on Rubicon are top tier and the payoff for watching this season appears to be worth it. When I talk about the show with others I expect to hear complaints about the pace of the show or the complex story lines, and I do hear those issues brought up. What I did not expect was to hear complaints about the somber lighting and dreary sets that for some reason or another caused some people to fall asleep. I don’t understand that criticism… Read more »
Rubicon is the best show I’ve seen in years – please renew!!!
One of the best shows on TV right now. Definately deserves another season.
Although the story line seems to be leading to a decisive finish, and it’s hard to imagine a season two, I HOPE THAT THERE IS ONE! “Rubicon” is the only show that I make a point to watch. I love the pacing and the gradual revelations, sprinkled with plenty of red herrings and sidetracks. As the season draws to a close, the pace has picked up and should satisfy the complainers who’ve said that it’s too slow. It’s not too slow. It’s an extremely sophisticated, up-to-the-minute approach, and I salute all connected with this show. And, it could hardly be… Read more »
Rubicon is an awesome show but like others have already said, it would be hard to follow if you don’t see every episode. To cancel this series would be a tragedy, it is well acted and very interesting.
Rubicon is one of the best things I’ve seen on TV. AMC should definitely give it another season. I expect the ratings to improve once word gets out.
Rubicon is one of the few truly great shows on television right now. The problem is its one of those shows where you have to see every episode to even understand just a little bit of what’s going on. And AMC isn’t making it an easier by NOT streaming it online for free. AMC, don’t cancel such a well made show just because of low ratings. Make it easier for people to get interested in it.
Rubicon is a good show! Unfortunately they don’t make it easy to jump in midstream.
