As you may know, ABC recently debuted a new series for Sunday nights called Scoundrels. Will it survive long enough to see season two?
Scoundrels follows the legally-challenged West family. The patriarch has been sent to prison and his wife is determined that she and the rest of her family not follow him. The TV show’s cast includes Virginia Madsen, David James Elliott, Leven Rambin, Vanessa Marano, Carlos Bernard, and Patrick Flueger (in a dual role).
The dramedy kicked off on Sunday, June 20th, with a poor 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and only 5.23 million viewers. For the timeslot, that put the premiere in third place in the demo and second in total viewers. Not a good start.

In week two, viewership for Scoundrels took a significant dive. The demo fell to a 1.0 rating and total viewership came down to just 3.66 million. That put the dramedy in last place in the demo and in last place for viewers.
Unless more people start watching, it’s hard to imagine that Scoundrels will be back for season two. ABC has lower expectations for summer TV shows but these numbers are terrible no matter how you look at them.
A total of eight episodes of Scoundrels have already been produced for season one. Hopefully the network will let the viewers see all of them and not pull the series off the air early. Right now, it looks episode eight will air on August 15th.
What do you think? Is Scoundrels worth watching or would you just cancel it already? (Want to know how The Gates is doing? Go here.)

Great, fun actors, cute premise.
ABC, anything worth having is worth working for… try harder, put a little effort into it. Not all of us have untreated ADD and demand immediate gratification, the show’s fans will wait to see if you figure it out.
Loved the show and want to see what happens. Just got caught up after dvrl-ing the show all summer. We were pleasntly surprised.
I love watching scoundrels. I watch it with seven other family members and if you cancel it we will boycot all abc shows.
love this show!!!
Love JDE but he needs to see that making his hair shoepolish black doesn’t work. A man with grown kids needs to let the silver threads come in…look at George Clooney for an exemplar of handsomeness with gray….and the network needs to stop emphasizing the 18-49 demographic. This show is great for detailing a family with real grownup parents. We, the audience over 49, (I am a 60+ female successful lawyer with grown kids) watch TV and spend money. When will networks understand it’s the older audience sitting on their kiesters watching TV. My kids, in their demographic, don’t watch… Read more »
Keep it !!! 😀
This show is a true original – like Eastwick was. As such, it takes time for us to wake up to something that breaks the mold and makes us think. I look forward to how mom will be able to continue to go straight in the face of so much easy money her kids can steal. Please let us see the next 3 episodes at least!!!!
In this case, Eight is definitely enough! Scoundrels will never live up to New Zealand’s Outrageous Fortune. The show is a disasterpiece. Just let it go.
Keep it! ABC can’t leave the viewers hanging right after Wolf caught Mack and Cheryl together. It will be interesting to see two of my favorite actors, David James Elliott and Carlos Bernard playing against each other.
I GET SICK OF WATCHING HOUSES BEING BUILT. SCOUNDELS WAS CUTE AND ENTERTAINING (WITH DAVID OUT OF JAIL NOW THE SHOW WILL PICK UP) ESPECIALLY HIM WALKING IN ON HIS WIFE AND THE DETECTIVE , I HAVE BEEN EACH WEEK WAITING FOR SUNDAY AND WITH NO NOTICE THE SHOW IS OFF THE AIR.
Really looked forward to watching Scoundrels. Thought the acting was great and the story was good. Some of the scenes, especially when Wolf was visited in jail or making phone calls any time he wanted to, were not at all true to life but that could be overlooked. Sure hope the series comes back next season…
Loved the show. Kept waiting to see what was going to happen.
Wasnt going to watch , afraid to get into it and then it gets dropped. I did however watch, and I enjoyed the show alot.
Very dissappointed to see it just stop. Not surprized.
Just like Melrose Place, and Dirty sexy money.
Networks dont give the shows enough time to build a audience.
Run them in re runs first to see if more people discover the show before just dropping it.
I do hope it will come back.
Love this show. It had better be back. I can’t believe last week was the finale, I had no idea. I was so waiting to see the fallout this week. So bummed that it will be another year or never :(.
Just get David James Elliott out of jail and back home with more to do with good scripts and this show will be on top. Its the kids that need to be recast and possibly Madsen herself. All she does is pout.
