Earlier this season, CBS renewed newbie shows Scorpion, Madam Secretary, and NCIS: New Orleans for another season each. The network’s other new drama, Stalker, was glaringly missing from that list of early renewals. Is it doomed? Will Stalker be renewed for a second season or will it be cancelled instead?
A cop thriller, Stalker follows the work of the LAPD’s Threat Assessment Unit, a team that investigates incidents of stalking. The TV show stars Dylan McDermott, Maggie Q, Victor Rasuk, and Mariana Klaveno.
The series debuted in October to a 2.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 9.07 million viewers. It wasn’t exactly an impressive start for the new series and the ratings dropped 10-14% in week two. That wasn’t too bad of a decline and CBS ended up giving Stalker some time (a “full season” order) to prove itself.
Unfortunately, the ratings have been dwindling downward for most of the season. Last week’s episode hit a new low with a 1.2 rating in the demo and 6.74 million viewers. CBS has no shortage of successful crime/legal series and numbers like those are too low for CBS. The network could bring it back for a second season but that seems highly unlikely.
Last week’s installment was Stalker’s 17th episode and CBS supposedly only ordered 20 of them for the season. It’s unclear if or when the remaining trio of episodes will be shown. Saturday night airings seem like a natural move at this point.
New series CSI: Cyber — starring recent Oscar-winner Patricia Arquette — takes over the Wednesdays at 10pm timeslot next week. It’s a natural fit for lead-in Criminal Minds since both revolve around FBI units.
But, what do you think? Should CBS cancel Stalker or renew it for another season? Would you change the show to try to attract a larger audience?
4/1 update: Stalker returns on May 4th. Details here.
PLEASE, don’t cancel Stalker; it’s such a good show & I never miss it. I’m so tired of getting into shows, only to be left hanging ’cause some exec thinks he/she knows better than the viewers at home!! Renew Stalker for another full season!
Stalker is one of our favorite shows we would miss NCIS New Orleans any day for The Stalker!! Better actors and story lines of many new shows!!! Please do. Of cancel this show!
i like the show. The cast is good. I think the
writers need to pick up their game. They are
the culprits. It would be sad to cancel and be
stuck with ncis la
CHANNEL CBS HAS GONE TO THE DOGS!!!!! MY OPINION IS YOU JUST DON’T WAYCH IT ANYMORE…..SEE HOW THAT WORKS FORTHEIR RATINGS. I WAS SICKENED WHEN THE MENTALIST ENDED AND NOW THEY TALK ABOUT TAKING AWAY THE STALKER! MAYBE THE TALK SHOW SHOULD GO AS WELL.BE IT KNOWN THAT THE REMAINING GOOD SHOWS LIKE CSI AND CRIMINAL MINDS CAN BE SEEN ON THE ION CHANNEL AND A&E. I SUSPECT THEY WILL BE THE NEXT TO GO.
Please DON’T take Stalker off the air. One of my favorite shows!!!!!
Please renew stalker its such a good job and people can actually learn from this show.
DO NOT CANCEL. IT’S ONE OF ONLY THREE SHOWS WORTH WATCHING ON TV.
Stalker is my favorite. Please don’t cancel the show.
I would be extremely upset and disappointed if the show is cancelled. I have watched it since the first airing and there has been so much drama, action, and suspense. I would definitely watch upcoming seasons…… PLEASE
All i have to say is I’m never watching Cyber crimes that’s for sure
I’m definitely not interested in watching that Cyber crimes show it looks dumb
PLEASE DO NOT cancel Stalker!!!! This is an excellent show with a great cast….and we all need to know what happens with Beth! I enjoy CSI but there have been way too many of them. Stalker is different and keeps you on the edge of your seat….PLEASE keep it airing!!!!,
I will be extremely angry if this show gets cancelled. It is one of my favorite shows!!!
The way they are doing this is an outrage!
Do not cancel this show! We’re waiting for the resolution of the girl in truck! Don’t leave us hanging.
I’m fed up with CBS cancelling all the good shows because the 18 – 49 year old group does not watch. I’m 60 years old & I think the shows we watch should be considered also. 99% of the shows we watch are on CBS but that may change if they don’t stop cancelling the good shows & leaving us with nothing but crap to watch.
