Earlier this season, CBS renewed newbie shows Scorpion, Madam Secretary, and NCIS: New Orleans for another season each. The network’s other new drama, Stalker, was glaringly missing from that list of early renewals. Is it doomed? Will Stalker be renewed for a second season or will it be cancelled instead?
A cop thriller, Stalker follows the work of the LAPD’s Threat Assessment Unit, a team that investigates incidents of stalking. The TV show stars Dylan McDermott, Maggie Q, Victor Rasuk, and Mariana Klaveno.
The series debuted in October to a 2.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 9.07 million viewers. It wasn’t exactly an impressive start for the new series and the ratings dropped 10-14% in week two. That wasn’t too bad of a decline and CBS ended up giving Stalker some time (a “full season” order) to prove itself.
Unfortunately, the ratings have been dwindling downward for most of the season. Last week’s episode hit a new low with a 1.2 rating in the demo and 6.74 million viewers. CBS has no shortage of successful crime/legal series and numbers like those are too low for CBS. The network could bring it back for a second season but that seems highly unlikely.
Last week’s installment was Stalker’s 17th episode and CBS supposedly only ordered 20 of them for the season. It’s unclear if or when the remaining trio of episodes will be shown. Saturday night airings seem like a natural move at this point.
New series CSI: Cyber — starring recent Oscar-winner Patricia Arquette — takes over the Wednesdays at 10pm timeslot next week. It’s a natural fit for lead-in Criminal Minds since both revolve around FBI units.
But, what do you think? Should CBS cancel Stalker or renew it for another season? Would you change the show to try to attract a larger audience?
4/1 update: Stalker returns on May 4th. Details here.
Don’t Cancel Stalkers, It’s a great show and it just started getting more interesting with Beth. Can’t wait to find out what happens to her team..
I love this show please don’t cancel it
Stalker is a great show!! This is the only show my entire family watches together. Please don’t cancel this great show!!!
Stalker is my favoiyte new show….so tired of enjoying a show to see it cancelled…BRING STALKER BACK……
This is why I almost never start watching new shows on CBS. They never give anything a chance. I watched this only because I watch criminal minds and it has become one of my favorite shows. It is intelligent unlike Survivor. But I guess I should blame mindless Americans for that trash continuously being renewed.
However this is the same network that wanted to cancel MASH after the first season.
Dont cancel stalker its an amazing show.yet cbs renews boring shows .this is why i dont watch cbs everything time i find a show i like they cancel it.
PLEEEEEEEEEZ! Please don’t cancel THE Best show (crime/drama) on TV today. That would be a shame.
I was skeptical about this show because of the title, but decided to try it anyway. I’m hooked, and so are my husband and my co-worker. Please don’t cancel it.
Everytime I find a show I like they cancel it stalker is a great show DONt cancel it cancel survivor and amazing race those lame ass shows!
Please don’t cancel Stalker. With this show, i thought CBS was finally getting it together. The show is well written with plenty of twists and turns! Its not the mindless drivel produced in a lot of shows. Don’t cancel it!
I love this show, please bring it back. One of the best new shows around.
It’s the best of the new dramas, and much better then Scorpion which is not nearly as intense, and has a weaker cast.
I love Stalker…sure hope it get renewed. Madam Serectary very boring. We PVR the show on Wednseday to watch on Thursdy night….
Do not cancel…it was a good show
Typical CBS and typical America
This is a rare great show and nobody is watching. Why? Probably because the Bachelorette or some similar nonsense is on. Anybody remember the show Golden Boy from a couple years ago? That show was straight up incredible and CBS cancelled it after like 13 episodes. Not all their fault because people need to watch. But still, so typical smh
