The new series on FX, Terriers, has been garnering some solid reviews. But, how did it do in the ratings? Should it continue for many years or be put to sleep…er, cancelled?
Terriers follows a pair of unorthodox and unlicensed private detectives. They’ll take just about any job, no matter how small or how strange. The show stars Donal Logue, Michael Raymond-James, Kimberly Quinn, Laura Allen, Rockmond Dunbar, and Jamie Denbo.
Per the overnight ratings, the Terriers premiere looks to be underwhelming at best. The debut attracted a 0.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic and about 1.6 million total viewers. While cable ratings are typically smaller than those of the major networks, FX has seen much better.

To put it in perspective, in September 2008, Sons of Anarchy debuted to a 1.2 rating in the key demo and 2.53 million viewers. This past March, Justified’s premiere brought in a 1.5 demo rating and 4.15 million.
Even Nip/Tuck, which had sharply declined over the years, averaged a 0.8 in the demo and 1.7 million viewers for its final season — in the same Wednesday night timeslot.
So, Terriers has gotten off to a very poor start. FX is planning to pair repeats with new installments of Sons of Anarchy. It seems doubtful but maybe this will help. Right now, it doesn’t look like Terriers will survive past its first season of 13 episodes.
But, what do you think? Is Terriers worth watching or should it be cancelled? Cancel or keep it?

Unfortunately America’s TV viewing taste does not support shows like Terriers while shows like Rising Hope seem to thrive. I truly wish there was network that would carry all the shows for those of us who like a bit more “meat” when we sit down for our TV time. I truly hope FX can find a way to keep Terriers alive. Love it.
Terriers is most definitely one of the best shows on Tv right now, and FX being the best channel as well. If shows like Keeping up with the Kardashians and Jersy Shore (gag!) can get multiple seasons, then it would be a cruel and unfair world. Everything about this show is amazing, from Logue’s acting to the theme song, it all shines blindingly bright and witty. Oh and FX better pull Always Sunny out of the gutter, the new season is still alright, but far more questionable than previous seasons, but thats neither here nor there.
I love this show. Of course, almost every year my favorite new show get canceled, so I’m warning everyone who thinks this is the best new show on tv. Prepare to be disappointed.
best show on tv!!!
Please do not cancel this show. It is the only show I can watch it more that once time. I started watching on demand and got hooked. I watch each episode at lease twice. I look forward to every episode. I have told all my friends to watch it.
Love this show, give it another year and see how it does. We need more shows like this on cable!
This show just keeps getting better and better. This week’s episode (11/24/10) blew me away. When the season ends, just rerun all the episodes and let the viewers find it. Ratings = ad dollars. However, you should be able to let a rising tide float all your boats. The successful shows (quantity) should be able to support your best shows (quality). Best and most popular don;t always coincide, but that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t support the good stuff you can. 50 years of working in broadcasting, including 31 years of teaching, says: “POSITION AND PROMOTE!” Does anybody at FX… Read more »
I’ve watched Terriers since the beginning and do love the show. I love that the show is not a showcase for buff, plastic people but characters with realness and depth of emotions. I want it to be saved, but, as is usually the case, TV bigwigs cancel all the best shows and leave us with crap. Please don’t cancel Terriers. Give it the chance it deserves.
It is my favorite show of the new fall season. It tops all others. I look forward to Wed. 10:00pm
Please lets keep this one on the air…good acting, great writing….a must see
love show, been watching all yr. story lines are great, class act, more seasons please
This is a great series and I hope it stays around!
Whamo. What an episode tonight. I don’t want this show to end. (and I used to live in OB.)
I have been watching Terriers from the beginning and love it. I never miss it. The acting by Donal Logue is just superb! He is fantastic! I really hope they give this one the benefit of the doubt.
Networks have got to stop cancelling shows that are well done and get great reviews that don’t necessarily have the best ratings. Remember “Sports Night?” One the best shows I ever saw. Had amazing reviews. Then got cancelled for poor ratings. Just sad. Hope Terriers does not suffer the same fate
I love Terriers! It is the best show on TV right now. It is the only show that I watch and FX, and it is by far the best. Please keep it!!!
I agree! I think this show is great. It has quick wit, suspense and very good acting. Beats a lot of other shows out there!
I have to say I came into this show late. I watched it one night after Sons Of Anarchy(dmy favorite show on FX), but I watched it and fell in love with it. I now watch it every week. Fx network shows like SOA and Terriers are your top grade shows and you should keep them around for as long as you can. My only complaint is I want more then just 13 episodes, id rather see 22 to 23 episodes
