This news doesn’t come as a surprise. CBS has pulled their new Saturday night drama, The Bridge, after just three episodes. Though it’s been cancelled in the US, the TV show will continue.
The Bridge follows Frank Leo (Aaron Douglas), a charismatic cop who’s voted unanimously to become the leader of the police union. He ends up fighting crime on the streets while also battling corruption on the force. The series features Douglas, Frank Cassini, Michael Murphy, Ona Grauer, Paul Popowich, and Theresa Joy.
The TV show debuted on Saturday, July 10th with two episodes. Per the overnights, the first episode attracted a tiny 0.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic and just 2.98 million viewers. It was easily beaten by repeats of Cops and America’s Funniest Home Videos.
The second episode of The Bridge drew a 0.5 rating in the demo and viewership increased to a still meager 3.51 million. It was trounced by America’s Most Wanted but did beat a repeat of ABC’s struggling Scoundrels.

Last Saturday night, the show’s ratings dropped even lower, to a 0.3 rating in the demo and 2.88 million viewers. It came in last place in the demo and third place in total viewers (beating NBC’s Persons Unknown).
The network has clearly not had any faith in the TV show from the beginning, airing it on the least-watched night of TV. The network has pulled it off the schedule with 10 unaired episodes left. Cancelled Cold Case reruns will take their place. CBS has made no indication that they plan to air the remaining Bridge installments at a later date or make them available online.
In Canada, it’s another story for The Bridge. CTV began airing the series in March and completed the season in May. The run was successful enough for CTV to order a second season for Canadian viewers.
Unfortunately, unless another network decides to pick up the series, it doesn’t look like viewers in the United States will see the rest of season one or season two.
What do you think? Did you like The Bridge? Should it have been cancelled by CBS? Would you watch it on another channel or on DVD?

We thought the show was great and looked forward to following weekly. How disappointing to read that the show has been canceled. Do you really think people want reruns of Cold Case or more reality TV?
I wANTED MORE EPISODES
The show was one of the best I’ve ever seen. I called 2 of my friends and told them to watch the show. I’ve never done that in 40 years! The other folks leaving comments are right. Another reason to watch TNT and CMT more often and CBS less. Any way to get Canadian TV?
I know; I really want to get the CBC here as they have some great shows! I just found out that a channel called MAVTV (man’s channel and I am a woman) has been broadcasting a Canadian drama called, Intelligence which is great and WABC 7 (at 1:30 AM NY station on Monday morning) has been broadcasting Davinci’s Inquest which is also great..both products of Canada and the CBC. There is another Canadian show on CBS on Friday nights, called Flashpoint..which is great. Someone said the Sleuth Channel carries some great shows (Charter communications doesn’t have it in the northeast).… Read more »
I can’t believe they have canceled this show after only airing 3 episodes at 8 PM on a Saturday night. It was a really good show and I am not surprised . Why not air the rest of it or try a better time slot. CBS is getting sloppy and I am now watching TNT and other networks more.
Booo – what a great show – we were just getting into it – one of the better shows of the summer – bring it back – I would definitely watch it on any channel!
The best new show to hit the screen. No more reality tv. We are soooo sick if it. This was a great, exciting drama. Bring it back.
Finally a great, intense drama and not a reality show. My husband and I loved the show and told many to watch only to be embarased that you pulled the show after just two episodes. Bring it back. I think you might have a real hit if you give it a chance.
I am very disappointed that The Bridge has been cancelled! 1st of all, why was it on Saturday night!!!!!!!! 2nd of all, my husband and I enjoyed watching it online together on another night when it was more convienent! CBS does not know what they are doing! I would love to be able to watch the remaining shows online for season 1 & 2! They should reconsider! And while I am at it, same thing for the Good Wife!!!!! Skipping weeks to make the season longer and all the reruns has me UPSET! Really CBS, get it together!
It was terrific–so naturally it was cancelled.
It was one of the best shows on television, and the rest of my family agrees. CBS will continue to show crap.
This is exactly why I’m watching TNT & USA more & the major networks less. I thought this was a great show & was wondering why I hadn’t seen it on in the past couple weeks. Just found out it was canceled & can’t state emphatically enough what a bunch of idiots are running CBS!! Need more shows like The Bridge, NCIS, & Criminal Minds & fewer like Big Brother. Get a clue …
The show would be a huge success i the US if the dopes at CBS would advertise it for a new show on Mon-Tue-Wed or Thur between 8 and 10 pm. Can anyone tell me what night it was on in Canada? Cop shows are very hot now and will be for several years to come. Wake up CBS and take a hard look at channels like TNT who I’m watching and enjoying for quite a few hours every week.
Is it any wonder that most TV in America today is crap? The networks shove reality shows at us because they are cheap. As soon as a decent show is available, they do everything they can to make sure it fails. Keep it up, CBS. Pretty soon, no one will watch your crap.
I was excited about this show, and found it so exciting that I told several friends about it, and to be sure and watch. Now, am extremely disappointed to see it cancelled. I don’t care to watch Cold Case! It’s not refreshing. Shame on CBS!
Yes, please continue “The Bridge” are you kidding, along comes some entertainment other than reality show crap and you cancel after 3 episodes, talk about being out of touch with the people. Good God!
