This news doesn’t come as a surprise. CBS has pulled their new Saturday night drama, The Bridge, after just three episodes. Though it’s been cancelled in the US, the TV show will continue.
The Bridge follows Frank Leo (Aaron Douglas), a charismatic cop who’s voted unanimously to become the leader of the police union. He ends up fighting crime on the streets while also battling corruption on the force. The series features Douglas, Frank Cassini, Michael Murphy, Ona Grauer, Paul Popowich, and Theresa Joy.
The TV show debuted on Saturday, July 10th with two episodes. Per the overnights, the first episode attracted a tiny 0.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic and just 2.98 million viewers. It was easily beaten by repeats of Cops and America’s Funniest Home Videos.
The second episode of The Bridge drew a 0.5 rating in the demo and viewership increased to a still meager 3.51 million. It was trounced by America’s Most Wanted but did beat a repeat of ABC’s struggling Scoundrels.

Last Saturday night, the show’s ratings dropped even lower, to a 0.3 rating in the demo and 2.88 million viewers. It came in last place in the demo and third place in total viewers (beating NBC’s Persons Unknown).
The network has clearly not had any faith in the TV show from the beginning, airing it on the least-watched night of TV. The network has pulled it off the schedule with 10 unaired episodes left. Cancelled Cold Case reruns will take their place. CBS has made no indication that they plan to air the remaining Bridge installments at a later date or make them available online.
In Canada, it’s another story for The Bridge. CTV began airing the series in March and completed the season in May. The run was successful enough for CTV to order a second season for Canadian viewers.
Unfortunately, unless another network decides to pick up the series, it doesn’t look like viewers in the United States will see the rest of season one or season two.
What do you think? Did you like The Bridge? Should it have been cancelled by CBS? Would you watch it on another channel or on DVD?

The show was good and getting better. I don’t think a lot of people even knew it was being aired as there wasn’t much publicity for it and to air it Saturday night???. Hopefully, another station will pick up the remaining episodes.
I was just getting interested in the show and they canceled it. I am very dissapointed. Will be be able to see it on line?? Hope so!!!!
I have been DVRing the episodes and just watched the 1st one last night. I really loved it. I work for a police agency and this show was more true to life than any I’ve seen in a wh ile. Again, why do the networks put the good shows on the crappiest nights and time slots and then wonder why they don’t do well? There has been such a big push for “Rookie Blue” and I find that show boring and not at all true to life.. Enough with the reality stuff. Its not entertaining to watch disfunctional people in… Read more »
I thought the show was great actually one of the best things CBS has done in along while.
My husband and I both liked this show very much and are disappointed that it was cancelled. We would definitely watch it on another channe.
Both my husband and I really enjoyed The Bridge, we’re very disappointed they canceled the show. They keep the lame reality junk shows on… I agree with some of the other viewers…Cable has better shows…get with it Major Networks!!
I couldn’t believe The Bridge was canceled, it was out and out the best show of the summer, the TV schedules keep listing it, and for 2 weeks now, I have been so disappointed at tuning it in, and finding repeats of Cold Case!! The story lines were so unique, and the characters like real people, I really loved it.
I loved it and so did my girlfriend. I am so tired of these networks giving us something to watch that is good and pulling it! ABC is the worst about it. You know some people (with kids) do stay home on the weekends and while I like reality shows, I’m more of a drama person. Why do they have to rerun stuff. Who wants to see reruns as opposed to something new, even if the rating are bad?
Just wanted to express my disappointment in your decision to cancel the new show “The Bridge”. Seems like everytime I get interested in a new show you people cancel it due to low ratings. All of the major networks are guilty of this. Yet you will continue to show the mind numbing “reality shows” . Did you ever think about changing the time slot if a show doesn’t do particularly well, or is that above anyones capability? More and more I am getting turned off watching the major networks and am leaning more to cable shows. It may be that… Read more »
The show was one of the best for summer, it was more real life and had a great story line to it, they seem to always cancel the best shows and then put on the stupid ones that are suppose to deal reality, that’s a bunch of hog wash. When will they get back to good shows that have good story and not all sex and violence. this is what is wrong with our kids today.
I watched the first two episodes and I was hooked. I think the show would have done a lot better on a better time slot during the week. Hate that it’s canceled. Hope I can find it on DVD.
Sad to see it cancelled. I thought it was good. Maybe it may make it to the DVD
The show was getting good. You really didn’t give it a chance . It was in the worst time slot and day also. I hope USA or TNT picks it up.
This show was excellent, so naturally it got canceled! I would definitely watch it on another channel like USA or TNT or on DVD if we can get the Canadian viewings. CBS should get a grip and bring it back! Who are these people who decide what’s good and what’s not? Why don’t you ask us before canceling the really good shows! If anyone knows how to view the Canadian shows, please post!
Hey Patricia,
You can watch the season on ctv.ca, you might need a proxy though. I’m Canadian and when I try and watch shows on American sites it won’t let me, so it’s probably the same on your side.
You could try typing ctv.ca into http://worldproxy.tracking202.com/ (click on the Canadian flag for a Canadian proxy) and navigate to The Bridge.
Or you could try http://www.fastpasstv.com/tv/the-bridge. It might be easier if you have no idea what I’m referring to above.
Hope this helps.
I liked the show. It was so nice to see something other than the reality show crap. this show had good acting, good writing and was interesting. The networks always pull the good shows and leave the garbage to run forever.
