The brave officers of The Chicago Code fight for what’s right in their fair city. Unfortunately, that battle doesn’t attract enough viewers to keep their TV show on the air. FOX has cancelled the cop show after one season.
Created by The Shield’s Shawn Ryan, The Chicago Code revolves around the officers of the Chicago Police Department. Veteran detective Jarek Wysocki (Jason Clarke) leads a special unit that fights against crime and corruption in the windy city. Others in the cast include Jennifer Beals, Matt Lauria, Devin Kelley, Todd Williams, Billy Lush, and Delroy Lindo.
The series debuted to an okay 2.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 9.43 million total viewers. In week two, it dropped 17% in the demo and the ratings kept dropping in subsequent weeks.

On May 2nd, The Chicago Code hit a series low with a meager 1.6 in the demo and 5.59 million viewers. Last Monday’s episode bumped up to a 1.7 rating but that’s still far from a good number.
Looking at FOX season averages, the cop TV series is the second lowest-rated drama still on the air (after Fringe on Friday nights).
FOX has now decided to cancel The Chicago Code after one season and 13 episodes. The remaining two unaired episodes will air on the next two Mondays, May 12th and May 23rd.
Ryan reacted on Twitter by writing, “Fox suits loved the show, but have a business to run.”
What do you think? Are you sorry there won’t be a second season? Why do you think this TV series didn’t catch on?

Have to think that airing opposite NBC’s The Event has hurt Chicago Code. If Fox had given it a better time slot, I think it could be a hit. As it is, we have to DVR Chicago Code as we also like The Event (even though it is fabrication)
I am so mad that this show is being cancelled. They can keep the stupidest shows on air for many seasons and continuously air repeats, but when a good one comes along God forbid they should let it air for more than one season. Other people are right: FOX, You Suck!!!!
i want it back ,the slant non the cop show was original because of the underlining story of how cops treat each other .The fact the chief was a woman was good for female images on tv,and the cast were great-beals,lindo and the new guy with family of cops.
This is a GREAT show!!! Give it another chance! The characters are original and the storyline just keeps getting better! Cmon FOX!
This is Bull!!!!! I cant believe they are cancelling the show. It is great, almost everyone I know watches is, what a disgrace….
This was my favorite show aired so far this year! By far the best written, fantastic acting and driven story line.
EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED
This show is awesome! It is one of the very best on TV today! This is unbelievable! It was a perfect compliment after House. The music, the superior acting – by far some of the best on TV today. This is a mistake – a very big mistake. There is not one show on Channel 7 (ABC) that I watch, a couple on CBS – Mentalist is brilliant- and the Law&Order series on NBC (die-hard fan) that I watch. On FX I watch Justified. On USA I watch In Plain Sight, L&O Criminal Intent. And that is about it… to… Read more »
What we have to remember with a show like this, most of the people that are watching it are from the city of Chicago and the state of Illinois. I personally love it and wish that it was staying on the air. Shawn Ryan never fails to make a great TV show, I just wish this one had caught on. We cannot blame the people at Fox when the only thing that they go by is ratings. And that holds true for networks everywhere.
Why don’t Fox get rid of that mess they have on Sunday nights like the animated r-rated cartoons Family Guy etc. And for heavens sake get rid of Bart Simpson.
K » Probably because they’re cheaper to make and more people watch them.
Glad its gone. Poorly represented the city of chicago, especially blacks. No positive black characters on the show. And mulatto half breed Jennifer Beals does not count.
mulatto half breed Jennifer Beals Really? for someone who appears to want to see more ethnic diversity in tv shows that’s a rather silly comment to make.
so upset ….another gritty, compelling show gets the chopping block. instead the networks continue to put crappy shows on tv. it would be great if tnt could pick this show up just like they did with southland. at this point we are running out of good shows to watch on tv. viewers obviously want to watch mindless shows such as celebrity apprentice or the like.
My grandfather grew up in Chicago and loved this show, not just because of the good acting and story line but because of the chicago scenery seen in every episode. He will miss this and we were so sure it would go another season, just talked about it last night. What a dissappointment!!! Grandpa wont be happy!
Well we can’t expect the Fox network to listen to it’s viewers can we??!!! Rupert Murdock wouldn’t know good programming if it slapped him in his ugly face!
Another good show bites the dust
Once again!!! Fox you SUCK!!!!!!!!
