The brave officers of The Chicago Code fight for what’s right in their fair city. Unfortunately, that battle doesn’t attract enough viewers to keep their TV show on the air. FOX has cancelled the cop show after one season.
Created by The Shield’s Shawn Ryan, The Chicago Code revolves around the officers of the Chicago Police Department. Veteran detective Jarek Wysocki (Jason Clarke) leads a special unit that fights against crime and corruption in the windy city. Others in the cast include Jennifer Beals, Matt Lauria, Devin Kelley, Todd Williams, Billy Lush, and Delroy Lindo.
The series debuted to an okay 2.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 9.43 million total viewers. In week two, it dropped 17% in the demo and the ratings kept dropping in subsequent weeks.

On May 2nd, The Chicago Code hit a series low with a meager 1.6 in the demo and 5.59 million viewers. Last Monday’s episode bumped up to a 1.7 rating but that’s still far from a good number.
Looking at FOX season averages, the cop TV series is the second lowest-rated drama still on the air (after Fringe on Friday nights).
FOX has now decided to cancel The Chicago Code after one season and 13 episodes. The remaining two unaired episodes will air on the next two Mondays, May 12th and May 23rd.
Ryan reacted on Twitter by writing, “Fox suits loved the show, but have a business to run.”
What do you think? Are you sorry there won’t be a second season? Why do you think this TV series didn’t catch on?

firstly id like to say that i enjoyed watching this series.however i presume that many people didnt appreciate it in its own right as the general story encompassed around corruption rather than a sick pychopath.the viloence in this series falls short in comparism to say the least , spartacus ,dexter,etc..All the other leading series actually makes its hero/heros cold blooded killers and which entertain and convices the viewers that it was justified to do so.
this series however failed to have the bad guy ‘s head blown off n scattered onto a wall, rather
No way this show should be canceled It was one of the best. Who are these idiots that do this. This is a great show. Keep Chicago Code cancel some crapy reality show instead.
TOO BAD THIS SHOW WAS DROPPED…!!! WITH ALL THE OTHER CRAPPY SHOWS ON TV, HOW THIS ONE WAS DROPPED, AND THEY ARE STILL ON THE AIR, IS BEYOND ME. THIS WAS A GOOD POLICE SHOW, AND SHOWED THE POLITICAL UNDERPINNINGS OF ONE OF THE MOST CORRUPT CITIES IN THE U. S.! CHICAGO HAS HAD A LONG TRACK RECORD OF GANGSTERS LIKE AL CAPONE, POLITICAL CORRUPTION, MAFIA DOMINATED UNIONS, ETC. I AM SURE OBAMA LIKED THE SHOW BEING CANCELED, BECAUSE THERE WERE SOME DETRIMENTAL IMAGES OF THE CITY GOING ON THEY SEEMED TO HAVE A FAMILIAR THEME WITH HIS RISE TO… Read more »
This show was very good. I looked forward to coming home and watching it. When TV finally has something worth watching on other than reality show look what you go and do, cancel it. Come on get with the program, bring Chicago Code back
This was a very good show, I was online trying to find out when hte new episodes of Chicago Code and Dark Blue and TNT where going to aire, just to find out that they both have been cancelled. Do all of us a favor and get rid of all this reality TV and do more drama writing. I still miss New York Undercover and Hill Street Blues.
It looks almost similar to New York Undercover but a bit more aggressive.
I didn’t even know The Chicago Code was aired on FOX in this spring. This series was quite interesting to watch after watched it on Hulu. I think lots of people might love to watch Jennifer Beals in the series, especially those who are 30s and 40s if FOX had done more before they aired it.
My group and I always sat back to catch another episode of Chicago Code, and was very much looking forward to this season, was ready and waiting. Gibbons was a hell of a character and we were looking to see what would happen next.
Please start the show up again, would really look forward to settling back and looking at it this winter.
It is a tragedy that the cheap schlock programming gets sold while quality programming gets scrapped. Frankly, I find myself watching less and less network TV because of it. I detest ‘reality’ TV dreck, and the self-important judges of ‘talent’ shows. Even the cable infotainment shows are 90% fluff and smoke. (It’s sad when “educational” TV is putrid and underwhelming) Perhaps we’re on the threshold of a “Brave New World” where they will merely inject our eyes with “Soma” and we shall drift off to mind numbing excrement. The TV show will die, long live the internet… and re-runs from… Read more »
This was definitely one of the best shows worth watching. We DVR the shows and watch them later because too many are in the same slots. It too bad garbage shows like Jersey Shores, Housewives, and other trashy reality shows continue to be aired but the good ones are taken off. What ever happened to the American public wanting to watch good TV vs. this obvious claptrap.
I Agree with the above comments. There is no way this show should have been cancelled.
There are very few shows now that are worth watching. Most of what is on TV is crap (too many reality shows). Most of the comedy shows are crappy. This show was a follow up of Hill Street Blues and great acting . TV keeps on getting worse and soon I won’t be bothered at all as I have started watching movies instead.
I agree with Myrtle. This show was never given any real chance. I happened upon it and once I did I was hooked. I loved it! Maybe Sean should pitch it to USA. They are having great success with their shows!
I think Chicago Code was an excellent series and I was looking forward to Season 2. I really think the problem was not enough advertising. If Chicago had been promoted and advertised like “Damages” it would have been a hit. Once I started looking at the show , I told everyone I knew how good it was and they in turn started looking and thought it was very good. I think this was a lost opportunity and maybe should be revisited.
There is no way this should hav been axed every episode got me more addicted. I know there is alot of cop shows on tv but this was one of d best definetly up there up with blue bloods in terms of gripping episodes. If shawn ryan creates another series he should defo get another network to show for the fans of this show. I know I wud defo watch it.
There’s NO way this show should have been axed, its been gripping to watch & is as good as what Hill Street Blues was. Maybe there was real life corruption behind the scenes with the creators!
I agree, The Chicago Code should not have been cancelled; give it another chance, PLEASE. With all the crap on TV, this show gets cancelled????!!!!
Look i will admit when this show began it sucks but not all new shows can throw you right into the action they have to lead up to it. As the season progressed i became more addicted to the show i just wanna see where the show would go now that gibbons is in jail and “liam” is no longer undercover
