Last week, FOX gave viewers a sneak preview of one of their new series — The Good Guys. The TV show is set for a summer run and already has a spot on the network’s fall schedule. Will it last that long?
The Good Guys is an action comedy that pairs a washed-up, old-school cop (Bradley Whitford) with a young, by-the-book detective (Colin Hanks). Others in the series include Jenny Wade, Diana-Maria Riva, Jennifer Besser, Kimberly Lynn Campbell, Kennith Edwards, Nathan Fane, and Arthur Wooldridge.
Last Wednesday’s premiere attracted a disappointing 1.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.93 million viewers. That put the TV show’s debut in fourth place in total viewership and tied for third in the coveted demographic with NBC’s Minute to Win It.

That’s hardly a great start and doesn’t bode well for the series’ future. Ratings typically drop lower for a show’s second episode and Good Guys doesn’t exactly have any to spare.
The network isn’t giving up though and has scheduled extra chances to see the pilot by re-airing it this Friday (May 28th) and again on Monday, May 31st. The Good Guys’ regular season will then begin on Monday, June 7th.
Based on the early ratings, one could expect that the series would have a quiet summer run and then be gone. However, FOX had such faith in the series that they gave it a spot on the fall schedule, following Human Target on Friday nights.
Ratings expectations are lower for summers and Friday nights. However, it seems highly unlikely that, unless viewership improves, the show will last beyond the first season.
What do you think? Is The Good Guys worth watching or would you just cancel it now?

I Love this show keep it on the air it funny it’s smart a new twist to cops solving crime.
We love this show. It always makes me laugh and I need to laugh. I especially like the way that Brad Whitford has become his character. Who knew he could deliver lines like that. I hope it stays because we would really miss him. Not sure about the other characters though. There might be some changes needed where they are concerned. Favorite line: Your dad called, he wants his seed back! We quote Whitford’s character all the time. So funny!
I Loooove this show! It is hilarious! Please keep it on the air!
One of the few shows that kept me watching. KEEP THIS ONE.
Sorry, for me, funny it is not. I really gave it a chance, endured the premiere showing twice thinking I might have missed something – euh, no! I still hung on to the following episodes, but every time, I eventually wander off to look, read, listen to something else, it just isn’t captivating in any way. That tentative humour is simply too rough, unrefined. The plot is weak, not well planned. The setting is uninteresting. As for the older character, a dinosaur, are there really still people like that around? or is he simply another caricatured perception of what older… Read more »
i really enjoy the show. i stumbled upon the 4th episode and stayed up to watch the other three. i laughed out loud – by myself! i thought the writing was fresh and very funny.
I LOVE IT! SO-O-O-O LAUGH OUT LOUD FUNNY! BUT I THOUGHT WHITFORD WAS ON LAW AND ORDER A LONG TIME AGO. ANYWAY, HE IS HILARIOUS AND COLIN IS GETTING THERE FAST. LOVED THE LINE, ” THE ONLY PLACE A WOMAN SHOULD HIT A MAN IS IN THE FACE “, THEN COLIN WAS PROUD WHEN HE GOT HIT IN THE FACE! GREAT FUN AND NO GORE LIKE THEY SAID. THIS IS A KEEPER, DON’T LET IT GO!
I AM SO THANKFUL THAT SOMEBODY TURNED ME ON TO “GOOD GUYS”
IT’S MY NEW FAVORITE SHOW 😀
AS WELL AS THE BEST SHOW EVER!!!

To the respondent above “Jo Holley,” LIGHTEN UP!! Have you ever heard the term
satire? Look it up. Maybe you might appreciate “The Good Guys” if you actually
understood what the premise of the show was and the comedic, creative intent of the
series.
We happened to be visiting with my daughter and weren’t sure what to watch, so we tuned into THE GOOD GUYS. It aired at 10pm. EST. We couldn’t believe the lack of respect in this episode. First there was the pimp beating up and burning a young girl’s belongings because she wanted to leave her job as a prostitute. The one guy was sneezing and coughing over everyone. The husband who was cheating on his wife and happened to be the pimp’s biggest customer. The hotel manager thrown over the balcony. The one detective making a play for the cheating… Read more »
Seriously? This show is a hilarious spoof on serious cop shows – and the scenarios are over the top for that purpose. But here’s a news flash- cheating husbands, pimps, prostitutes, etc. are all real world goings on. Please note that the show did not glorify these things, but clearly labels these folks as “THE BAD GUYS.” Here’s a story line for you: A man with a healthy appetite for visiting prostitutes, fighting animals to the death with his bare hands, and killing many, many people, is betrayed by a dishonest lover, captured by his enemies, and has his eyes… Read more »
This is a great show, but I don’t have faith in Fox to see it out. Great show, great characters, funny with action, and serious moments. Worth keeping, but again it is Fox, please keep.
I love this show, I find it quite hilarious, I love the 2 main characters, and lets face it, its just a spoof of more serious crime shows.
Last night’s episode of TGG was the best yet. In fact, it had a different look and feel about it. Cinematography was much better and editing tighter. Across the board a better show. It looks like they are getting their grove on. This show will stick. And “Let’s bust some punks.” will find its way into the television lexicon.
I love it !!! Nothing else on tv like it.
Thie show sucks! I watched two episodes, & it freakin sucks! Nothing funny about it!
Cancel it, cancel it, cancel it!
