TNT has been cleaning house in recent months — cancelling shows like Perception, Dallas, and Franklin & Bash. Will new series The Librarians be cancelled as well or, will it be renewed for a second season?
On The Librarians, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) welcomes four new people to the library organization, to help solve ancient mysteries and recover/protect historical artifacts. Together, they fight against supernatural threats — including the mysterious and immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer) and the Serpent Brotherhood. The show stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette. Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart recur in their roles from the movies.
The TNT series debuted in early December with a pair of episodes that drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.35 million viewers. That was a solid premiere for a basic cable series.
Unfortunately, the second week’s installment fell more than 35%, to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.37 million. The ratings have gone up and down in the later weeks but haven’t edged higher than a 1.0 in the demo and 4.1 million. Last night marked the season finale.
Though the ratings fell quite a bit after the premiere, The Librarians still performed well for TNT. It’s pretty much matched Rizolli & Isles’ demo numbers and is one of the cable channel’s most-watched programs. Though the cable channel supposedly wants to focus on very edgy material, it looks like a safe bet that The Librarians will be renewed for a second season.
Executive producer Dean Devlin certainly wants to continue with the show and told EW, “The world of The Library is a world I want to live in for the rest of my life. The more we can expand that universe and take it into surprising areas… we want to just see how far we can keep pushing the limits of where the show can go. Hopefully we’ll hear soon about a pick up soon and get back to work. We’re all chomping at the bit to get back into the world of The Library.”
Via Instagram he later said, “I want to thank each and every one of you who tuned in for your support this season. As soon as we hear any news regarding Season 2 of The Librarians you’ll be the first to know!”
But, what do you think? Do you like The Librarians TV show? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
2/12 update: TNT has renewed The Librarians for a second season. Details here.

Please renew it! It’s a bit like pre-crystal-skull-Indiana-Jones, there’s nothing else like it on TV!
Please renew the show! It is entertaining and unlike all the other shows on t.v. Give it a chance to grow, please!
Would love to see it return for another season. Would like to see the Guardian role played by someone else though.
Awesome serie! Please keep the show going, renew please!!!
Yes! To many good shows get cancelled after first season. Let it marinate another season.
Please keep!!! I love being able to watch Christian Kane in another series. Plus, ANY show that has Bruce Campbell as Santa is a show that has good taste!!!!!
Would love to see a second season of “The Librarians.”
Renew the Librarians. Great show with lots of action & fun. You don’t see much of this type of show theses days. I’m so done with the reality shows. Most of all , this show is for Family viewing of all ages !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you.
Renew renew!
Keep it. It was entertaining and fun.
Keep definitely
Please keep it. I get disappointed, like so many others, because shows I enjoy get cancelled for one reason or another. PLEASE KEEP THIS SHOW! Its a great show, easy to watch and everyone can enjoy it.
It is a great show and getting better. The interaction of the characters is moving along and you are already interested in what is happening to them. Please keep this show. Give it a chance to shine.
Give the show a chance – keep it! Too often good shows get cancelled before it even got the chance to show what its about and be apreciated by the audience.
Got to keep it going. The first season is always a little tough but that is where you develope the entire show and all the characters. Got to give it at least 3 seasons for a fair shot.
