TNT has been cleaning house in recent months — cancelling shows like Perception, Dallas, and Franklin & Bash. Will new series The Librarians be cancelled as well or, will it be renewed for a second season?
On The Librarians, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) welcomes four new people to the library organization, to help solve ancient mysteries and recover/protect historical artifacts. Together, they fight against supernatural threats — including the mysterious and immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer) and the Serpent Brotherhood. The show stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette. Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart recur in their roles from the movies.
The TNT series debuted in early December with a pair of episodes that drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.35 million viewers. That was a solid premiere for a basic cable series.
Unfortunately, the second week’s installment fell more than 35%, to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.37 million. The ratings have gone up and down in the later weeks but haven’t edged higher than a 1.0 in the demo and 4.1 million. Last night marked the season finale.
Though the ratings fell quite a bit after the premiere, The Librarians still performed well for TNT. It’s pretty much matched Rizolli & Isles’ demo numbers and is one of the cable channel’s most-watched programs. Though the cable channel supposedly wants to focus on very edgy material, it looks like a safe bet that The Librarians will be renewed for a second season.
Executive producer Dean Devlin certainly wants to continue with the show and told EW, “The world of The Library is a world I want to live in for the rest of my life. The more we can expand that universe and take it into surprising areas… we want to just see how far we can keep pushing the limits of where the show can go. Hopefully we’ll hear soon about a pick up soon and get back to work. We’re all chomping at the bit to get back into the world of The Library.”
Via Instagram he later said, “I want to thank each and every one of you who tuned in for your support this season. As soon as we hear any news regarding Season 2 of The Librarians you’ll be the first to know!”
But, what do you think? Do you like The Librarians TV show? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
2/12 update: TNT has renewed The Librarians for a second season. Details here.

Enjoyable show. My entire family watches it. We would love to see it return.
Please keep this show going. The cast is great.
Definitely keep! Let’s let the characters develop more, and see what comes in a second season. There have not been enough episodes yet, but so far, I think it is a delightful show, clean enough for the kiddos to watch, and mysterious enough to keep me watching.
i think that the Librarians TV show should be renewed for a second season and more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Definitely needs keeping. Series got better and better. Great stories and wonderful characters. Great fun.
I love it! Keeps me thoroughly entertained!

please please please Renew The Librarians… It is unlike any other show on TV.. It canbe watched by the entire family..full of action, adventure and a fantastic cast… Please TNT… Keep this show on for years to come!!
I loved this show. The characters were engaging and some multi-faceted. It was smart and funny while still pulling the occasional heart string. A feat considering only 10 episodes were aired. I would love to see more of this show.
Definitely keep the show. Too many good ones have been cancelled.
YES! Please renew, love the show. Will continue to watch love all the actors and enjoyed the writing. I am still pissed Leverage was cancelled if TNT cancels another show I like I will stop watching their network. Period!!!
Umm renew!! It’s a great show and we seriously need to keep the great ones instead of cancelling them because the crap shows cost less.
I stand behind the Librarians.
I enjoy it. Bring it back please! It got better as season went on.
Please Keep it
