TNT has been cleaning house in recent months — cancelling shows like Perception, Dallas, and Franklin & Bash. Will new series The Librarians be cancelled as well or, will it be renewed for a second season?
On The Librarians, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) welcomes four new people to the library organization, to help solve ancient mysteries and recover/protect historical artifacts. Together, they fight against supernatural threats — including the mysterious and immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer) and the Serpent Brotherhood. The show stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette. Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart recur in their roles from the movies.
The TNT series debuted in early December with a pair of episodes that drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.35 million viewers. That was a solid premiere for a basic cable series.
Unfortunately, the second week’s installment fell more than 35%, to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.37 million. The ratings have gone up and down in the later weeks but haven’t edged higher than a 1.0 in the demo and 4.1 million. Last night marked the season finale.
Though the ratings fell quite a bit after the premiere, The Librarians still performed well for TNT. It’s pretty much matched Rizolli & Isles’ demo numbers and is one of the cable channel’s most-watched programs. Though the cable channel supposedly wants to focus on very edgy material, it looks like a safe bet that The Librarians will be renewed for a second season.
Executive producer Dean Devlin certainly wants to continue with the show and told EW, “The world of The Library is a world I want to live in for the rest of my life. The more we can expand that universe and take it into surprising areas… we want to just see how far we can keep pushing the limits of where the show can go. Hopefully we’ll hear soon about a pick up soon and get back to work. We’re all chomping at the bit to get back into the world of The Library.”
Via Instagram he later said, “I want to thank each and every one of you who tuned in for your support this season. As soon as we hear any news regarding Season 2 of The Librarians you’ll be the first to know!”

I love the show. It’s a new look on how creative our minds can be and show the strength and weakness of the characters. The way the group works together. I want to where the storyline will go. I love how they each got their own book. Excited to see the next adventure

DEFINITELY KEEP!!!! It is a good show with lots of fun and lots of excitement! I am hoping that The Librarians is on the keep list for many years to come. The cast is great together and I was kind of shocked that I liked it show much thinking how could they present a show out of the movies and make it work. Well they found a way cause I loved the movies but am totally in love w/ the show. Please keep it!!!!
The Librarians is an interesting TV show combining science fiction, fantasy, history, a bit of adventure and comedy with a great cast. A touch of Indiana Jones and Warehouse 13, combined. It should be defiantly be renewed of a second season with an eye on going for a third. The first season was just setting the story line, lets see it play out. I vote YES for renewal.

‘The Librarians’ really needs to be renewed. Season 1 was a welcome return to the world of the Library, and the Librarian, and there is a great deal of untapped potential…not to mention new and interesting stories.
Love the show!! Please bring it back!!
