TNT has been cleaning house in recent months — cancelling shows like Perception, Dallas, and Franklin & Bash. Will new series The Librarians be cancelled as well or, will it be renewed for a second season?
On The Librarians, Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) welcomes four new people to the library organization, to help solve ancient mysteries and recover/protect historical artifacts. Together, they fight against supernatural threats — including the mysterious and immortal Dulaque (Matt Frewer) and the Serpent Brotherhood. The show stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette. Wyle, Jane Curtin, and Bob Newhart recur in their roles from the movies.
The TNT series debuted in early December with a pair of episodes that drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.35 million viewers. That was a solid premiere for a basic cable series.
Unfortunately, the second week’s installment fell more than 35%, to a 0.8 demo rating and 3.37 million. The ratings have gone up and down in the later weeks but haven’t edged higher than a 1.0 in the demo and 4.1 million. Last night marked the season finale.
Though the ratings fell quite a bit after the premiere, The Librarians still performed well for TNT. It’s pretty much matched Rizolli & Isles’ demo numbers and is one of the cable channel’s most-watched programs. Though the cable channel supposedly wants to focus on very edgy material, it looks like a safe bet that The Librarians will be renewed for a second season.
Executive producer Dean Devlin certainly wants to continue with the show and told EW, “The world of The Library is a world I want to live in for the rest of my life. The more we can expand that universe and take it into surprising areas… we want to just see how far we can keep pushing the limits of where the show can go. Hopefully we’ll hear soon about a pick up soon and get back to work. We’re all chomping at the bit to get back into the world of The Library.”
Via Instagram he later said, “I want to thank each and every one of you who tuned in for your support this season. As soon as we hear any news regarding Season 2 of The Librarians you’ll be the first to know!”
But, what do you think? Do you like The Librarians TV show? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
2/12 update: TNT has renewed The Librarians for a second season. Details here.
Keep it of course.
keep it TNT, are you kidding me that you would even consider it? I am so tired of you canceling good shows.
Keep it the show is excellent.
KEEP! Of course.
Oh yes! Please keep this show on the air. The Librarians is a breath of fresh air in a TV world of stale, rehashed “so-called” reality shows, real estate and cop/crime shows. Please, please renew the Librarians for another season.
Keep it. Love it
This is a wonderful show, yes there were some weak moments but every show takes a while to find its footing. I love that The Librarians is adventuresome and clean. My whole family loves it, even my fiance’ who rarely watches anything beyond Pawn Stars or car shows. Each character is fascinating and it has a way of making us believe in magic again. The actors are brilliant and who doesn’t love looking at Christian Kane?
KEEP!!!! Love this show!
Keep!!!!!!!
I have thoroughly enjoyed watching this show. My teenage daughter even watched it with me, which is very rare. Please renew this show!
Keep
Keep! The Librarians needs renewed!!! It’s a great show.
Definitely keep! The premise is fun, familiar and the kind of well written and well thought out educational escapism that we need today. The artifacts were cool, the characters were likable and unique, and the actors worked REALLY well together! Definitely keep!
keep it! I’m still furious with TNT for canceling Leverage, even after it won People’s Choice Award.
Keep please
