After a four week run, FOX says the honeymoon is over for David E. Kelly’s The Wedding Bells series.
The Wedding Bells follows the Bell sisters, Annie (KaDee Strickland), Jane (Teri Polo) and Sammy Bell (Sarah Jones), who inherited “The Wedding Palace” following their parents’ divorce. The staff also includes Jane’s husband and company COO Russell Hawkins (Benjamin King), photographer David Conlon (Michael Landes), and wedding singer Ralph Snow (Chris Williams).
The series debuted on March 7th on FOX following American Idol. Over 12.4 million watched the initial episode. That sounds impressive until you realize that the comedy lost almost 16 million from Idol. Once Bells started in its new Friday night timeslot, viewership quickly fell even further. The most recent episode attracted only 4.5 million.
Production was shut down yesterday following the completion of the seventh episode. Four episodes have aired thus far and FOX maintains that the remaining three will see the light of day. The Wedding Bells remains on the schedule this week but was already scheduled to be pre-empted next week (for an airing of the movie White Chicks). It’s unlikely that the series will return.
A spokesperson for FOX said, “While we’ve been pleased with the show creatively, and David’s writing was first-rate, (Bells) just didn’t secure the ratings we’d hoped for.” Stay tuned!
I love this show! Perhaps, the F O X family should think about selling this wonderful show to someone like… the B R A V O family-?
I am so upset to find out that this show has been cancelled!!!! I never watch tv usually because I can’t find anything worth watching…now that there is…you cancel it. I’ve told everyone that I love this show and they are impressed because I actually am watching tv. Reconsider!!!!
I have 2 sisters and we love this show. We have told everyone we know to watch it because it is one of the best shows we have seen in a long time. Now we find out the you are going to pull it. WHAT ARE YOU THINKING! Please reconsider and give it another chance. I’m sure once word gets out it will be a success.
Yet another TV program that was interesting, fun and captured our TIVO has met an untimely end. The Nine, Windfall and now Wedding Bells along with other shows cancelled before they could catch on has brought our family to reconsider watching television at all.
I hope these trigger happy decision makers find the viewers they’re looking for and learn how to keep them watching.
from ONE DISGUSTED viewer!!!
I hate to see this show go. It was different, fun, and the cast was great. The first episode was a little off, but I was totally hooked after the second. Bury any new show on three Friday nights and of course it won’t do well. The whole TV industry is out of touch…seems they always throw all their support, money & advertising behind garbage.
Please don’t cancel one of the only shows my family and I look forward to seeing every week. We love the cast and the writing is refreshing. Give it a chance and put it on a different night and time. I promise you that once people watch this show they will be hook.
I love this show. it’s reminiscent of Ally McBeal and after a long week it was so relaxing and fun to watch. Fox sucks I refuse to watch anything else on fox now. Including AI which in my opinion is past it’s prime. If anyone is LISTENING – PLEASE KEEP THIS SHOW GOING!!!!!
All the good shows die young, and the trashy shows go on forever! A fun show that our entire family will miss.
Watched tonight and felt extremely disappointed that this show has been pulled. Yet, bad shows stay on. The characters were starting to be developed beautifully and it was moving in such a great direction. FOX immediately put it in a Friday at 9:00 slot/a new show/and EXPECTED it to do well? I’m not going to watch FOX for a while. The upcoming episodes looked great and they pulled one that was to air tonight with a wedding of 2 women.
What a shame that Fox finds there’s no place for intelligent adult humor on Friday nights. The Wedding Bells was a winner, in my book.
I like the show. It is refreshing and funny and light. Just right to end a hectic week. Please do not cancel it!
You have got to be kidding..
How can you pull this show?
I guess you like killing, rapes & smut
There are very few shows left
for family viewing…you’d rather have junk like white chicks…not a very smart move.
I can’t believe that you are pulling such a wonderful show. I am telling everyone I know that they need to watch the Wedding Bells just once and they would be hooked just like I am (was?). Figures though, a great and entertaining show comes along and the network doesn’t give it a chance to find the audience I know is out there. Thank you to the cast for such good job and to David E. Kelly for the show itself. What a pity.
YES! IS there ANYTHING we can do to save this show? I loved it. My mom, boyfriend and I watch it and we get a great laugh from it. I’m seriously upset by this. Darn you moving it to FRIDAY… FRIDAY=DEATH on FOX.
My family loves the Wedding Bells. It’s cleaver, fairly clean and the cast is great. Seems like all the good shows get cancelled – I guess this one didn’t have enough smut, sex, and nudity. Is there anything we can do to encourage the network to keep it? Do they really think movies like “The White Chick” will attract more people? Oh well!
