After a four week run, FOX says the honeymoon is over for David E. Kelly’s The Wedding Bells series.
The Wedding Bells follows the Bell sisters, Annie (KaDee Strickland), Jane (Teri Polo) and Sammy Bell (Sarah Jones), who inherited “The Wedding Palace” following their parents’ divorce. The staff also includes Jane’s husband and company COO Russell Hawkins (Benjamin King), photographer David Conlon (Michael Landes), and wedding singer Ralph Snow (Chris Williams).
The series debuted on March 7th on FOX following American Idol. Over 12.4 million watched the initial episode. That sounds impressive until you realize that the comedy lost almost 16 million from Idol. Once Bells started in its new Friday night timeslot, viewership quickly fell even further. The most recent episode attracted only 4.5 million.
Production was shut down yesterday following the completion of the seventh episode. Four episodes have aired thus far and FOX maintains that the remaining three will see the light of day. The Wedding Bells remains on the schedule this week but was already scheduled to be pre-empted next week (for an airing of the movie White Chicks). It’s unlikely that the series will return.
A spokesperson for FOX said, “While we’ve been pleased with the show creatively, and David’s writing was first-rate, (Bells) just didn’t secure the ratings we’d hoped for.” Stay tuned!
hahahahahahahahahahahaha idk. but i liked this show
Please bring this back!! It was funny, entertaining, creative show. It is great because the wedding business is booming and it just makes fun of it all.
How can we get this show back on? It was the best show and with weddings and wedding stuff being so popular I just don’t get it!! I’m in the wedding business in Washington and it was my brother in California who told me about the show- I faithfully watched it and actually went through hell to get to a TV set the final evening it wasn’t on but was replaced by some stupid movie. How can we get this back even if it’s on another network- I don’t get why one of the biggies like ABC, NBC or CBS… Read more »
This was a great show… Fox really needs to look at its current line up… Maybe take off one of the thousand realty shows and put something with entertainment value back on..
Today is September 26, 2007 and I am in a state of shock. I was checking the line up for the return of my favorite sitcoms and to no avail – NO VEIL – NO CAKE – and NO WEDDING BELLS!!! What the Heck? This was a feel good television show that has definite promise – Come on Fox – I want a wedding – I want bells to ring – Please think it over and Hello – move over American Idol – who wants idols anyways – I want a Fall Wedding.
I absolutely loved this show and its amazing that you just cut it without warning. I taped it every Friday and me, my boyfriend, and my mom watched this show together. Thats rare to find a show that everyone will like. It took me so long to find out what happened to the show. Its a shame that all this crap on Fox gets to stay and the one show so many liked gets cut. I’m boycotting. Fox Sucks! Bring it Back!
Let me know how to keep this show going I absolutely loved it!! 🙁
Are you seriously not going to bring back the Bells? I loved watching as did my husband. We had so much fun watching this show TOGETHER, which is not so easy to find these days, and looked forward to watching the following week. Please please please reconsider and give it a another chance.
Oh no! We have been waiting for this show to return. We had no idea it was canceled. Everyone I knew was watching it and loved it! Where in the world did they get the ratings from? Someone totally screwed up. This was the best show on television. We laughed out loud and every one in the show was excellent. There was not a show to compare it to. FOX screwed up with this loss. Someone had to screw the stats up on this. It was as enjoyable to my parents, who are in their 70’s, as it was to… Read more »
Maybe if the show wasn’t on Friday night there would be more viewers. Don’t cancel this show!!! It’s one of my favorites. I loved the characters.
This was a great show. The whole family watched it. Isnt that what this world needs now? There is too much crime, too many reality shows, as well as soooo many that the whole family cant watch together.. Please reconsider and give it its own day and not up against any major show. it was great!
i just found out Wedding Bells was cancelled! I thought the season would pick up in September. What a waste! I actually had my 16 year old daughter, 31 year old straight male friend and 60 year old parents just starting to watch it. it pleased all ages and was a great Friday night after a long week. BRING THE SHOW BACK!
I loved this show.. I could not wait to tune in on Friday nights, it was a funny, good show. I was wondering what happened to it. I think fox made a mistake by cancelling the show, Anything we can do to get it back?
MY FRIENDS & I ARE REALLY SAD THAT THIS SHOW WAS PULLED, IT WAS EXTREMELY ORIGINAL AND ONE OF A KIND AND QUITE FRANKLY A BREATH OF FRESH AIR!
WHY WOULDNT FOX EXECS GIVE SUCH A GREAT SHOW A CHANCE?
ONE MONTH ? ITS JUST A REAL LET DOWN WHAT ARE WE LEFTWITH MONOTONOUS REALITY AND LAME COMODY SHOWS! SHAME ON YOU FOX5!!
I think too many children are watching tv and influencing ratings. My wife and I (25-26) loved the show and found it entertaining.
