It’s not looking good for season two of The Whispers. The ABC TV show has been dropping in the ratings and now, the network has let the cast’s options expire.
On The Whispers, several Washington, DC children start talking about and playing with an imaginary friend. When their mysterious games turn dangerous, FBI child specialist Claire Bennigan (Lily Rabe) is called in to investigate. The rest of the cast includes Barry Sloane, Milo Ventimiglia, Derek Webster, Kristen Connolly, Kylie Rogers, and Kyle Harrison Breitkopf.
Word is that the cast’s contract options for a second season expired at the end of June. According to Deadline, ABC hasn’t given up on The Whispers just yet however and want more time to make a decision.
The network tried to get a two-week extension but that didn’t happen — in part because of series star Lily Rabe. She and other members of the cast weren’t happy that, after the pilot was shot last May, shooting of the series was relocated to Vancouver.
Shooting in Los Angeles would be too expensive for the low-rated drama so producers have a plan for Rabe to do a limited number of episodes if the series ends up being renewed.
If The Whispers is picked up for a second season, new contracts will have to be negotiated — providing the castmembers want to return or aren’t already committed to other projects. Ventimiglia is being eyed for the lead role in a pilot for USA Network called Shooter.
What do you think? Would you like to see The Whispers renewed for a second season or, should ABC cancel it and move on?
Just like the X files started slow but had a good run. Do the people who decide these things have ADHD?
For as long as that pretty face is in there, I won’t mind the show…
Watched the first five minutes and after watching the kid kill her mother that was enough for me. Cancel for sure.
The mother didn’t die.
Yes definitely renew the series. Even though the options for the cast have expired, get creative – after all how many times have the networks replaced a character as if s/he had always played the part. . If per chance y’all do not renew the show, which would be a pity, at least tell us who is “Drill” because otherwise leaving your viewers hanging is not the best option! . Give it a chance. Renew it for at least 1 more season. If the ratings do not improve, then cancel it. It is one of the very few unique shows… Read more »
lily Rabe is the only actor I would like to see leave the show. She’s a terrible actress! Otherwise, the show is great!
Please renew!
This show is one of best right now, very few people left with good tasting for shows these days 🙁 I like this show don’t cancell.
Definitely renew! It is a fantastic show with a unique plot and I hope there are more season!
I am getting into the show more and more. I love the cast members and the kids are terrific! It’s got my vote of approval!
I agree that networks now do not give a series enough TIME to bloom into its full potential. You can’t expect a series to be an immediate hit the first few episodes. A series needs at least one season to gather ratings and an audience time to dig into the story line. That is the problem with all these networks for the past few years. They won’t give the story/series time to develop. Renew the series and I know it will gather the ratings it needs to continue.
Never watched it since the beginning. CANCEL IT 🙁
YES RENEW
Please renew this show! My three daughters and I love this show…. so does my mom. Give it a chance.
Please renew! This show is so cool, and different from the traditional. An imaginary friend controlling kids? Not something you see everyday in a tv show
It is a great show but you have to give it time. Every network now wants an instant hit show and they won’t let it develop and give it time. There are lots and shows out there that I have no understanding of why they are on or stay on. New Girl, Jane the Virgin, Office, Parks and Recreation-Suck by my standards so they would have been cancelled. Forever, Constantine, One Big Happy were WESOME shows who cancelled and that is just plain stupid!
