Many Moonlight fans are still upset over the cancellation of CBS’ Friday night vampire series. CBS is counting on viewers wanting more of the show’s star, Alex O’Loughlin, and put him front and center in the new medical series, Three Rivers. So, will O’Loughlin’s physician outlive his vampire character?
Three Rivers revolves around a team of elite surgeons who work in the high-pressure and emotional world of organ transplants. The leader is Dr. Andy Yablonski, (O’Loughlin) a workaholic with a quick wit.
His co-workers include rebellious Dr. Miranda Foster (Katherine Moennig), womanizing Dr. David Lee (Daniel Henney), inexperience coordinator Ryan Abbott (Christopher Hanke), dedicated head of surgery Dr. Sophia Jordan (Alfre Woodard), and Pam Acosta (Justina Machado), Andy’s best friend.
Many have suspected that the drama was in trouble even before it got out of the starting gate. Amid some negative early reviews, CBS decided to bump the pilot episode and air the second installment instead. The second episode, which is set to air next week, is called “Ryan’s First Day” and might be a little confusing since returning viewers have already seen Ryan working at his job.

Based on the early ratings, that may be the least of CBS’ worries. Three Rivers debuted last night with a disappointing 9.17 million viewers and a 2.0/5 rating/share among adults 18-49. It ranked in a distant third place in total viewership and a distant fourth place in the all important demographic.
Three Rivers retained a little more than 70% of its lead-in audience and, in the same timeslot last year, Cold Case brought in almost two million more viewers.
Based on typical ratings trends, even fewer people can be expected to return next week. If you look at it that way, Three Rivers’ life expectancy doesn’t look very good.
Is Three Rivers worth saving or should CBS do a mercy killing and cancel it now? What do you think?
Besides being a big fan of Alex O’Loughlin and Moonlight, this show hits home because my husband of 33 yrs , just had a kidney/pancreas transplant at the Cleveland Clinic in June of this year!! And if you think its a boring show, they you shouldn’t be watching it. That is real life! You wait for 2 yrs and then the call comes and you rush to the hospital all the drive there, wondering what in the world are we doing. Then it all happens so fast. You still don’t know you’re really getting the organs until they come and… Read more »
I am writing this in behalf of the series Three Rivers. As everyone has said before and like them please CBS do not cancel Three Rivers. It is one of the best shows ever that has been on t.v. in a long time. There is not to many shows that catch my attention but I can really say that this one has. Not only do we learn how people donate organs to some degree but also we see the caring of drs. such as Andy Yablanski and the others. To me it is one of the most caring and considerit… Read more »
CANCELL THE SHOW
A series that raises public awareness about the tremendous need we have in this nation for more donors is a GOOD thing. Keep the show on PLEASE!
My brother received a heart transplant about 5 years ago. This show gives me a chance to see a whole story regarding a transplanted organ. I have really looked forward to every episode!
This show is getting better! The episode with Mandy Patinkin was amazing (he should get an Emmy nod for his performance). Now that we’re getting some hints into Andy’s “checkered past”, I can’t wait for more. Please CBS, have a heart!!!
Please, please keep Three Rivers. They have a good cast, in which they each have distinct character, which is one of the most important elements in the success of a series. Give me another medical drama (although this one is not just “another medical drama”) any day rather than watching some dark force polluting my telly.
Keep it. This premise sheds light on prevalent issues and leaves you with a great feeling. Much needed in these times. It would be an incredible loss.
I would love to watch Three Rivers for another long~ seasons…
It is a great Medical Drama that shares good relationships-not only between families & patients, but also patients & doctors. In addition to that, warm-hearted humor is always there in Three Rivers. I hope CBS keep the show… Three Rivers is different from other Medical drama, and It has its distinctive characteristics among them.
Theres a lot of medical shows out there, but this one really stood out to me. The cast is really good and the storyline is also great. Please Keep it!!!
Please keep THREE RIVERS. Though I like medical shows, this one is different.
The problems that face organ donors, recipients, and the hospital staff give us new insight into that area.
The cast is great, and the scenarios are unique. Keep it!!
Ignore the voyeurs watching the reality programs. There are other viewers who prefer shows without guns and housewives afraid of their husbands or their weight problems.
Three Rivers is GOOD ENTERTAINMENT! Except for the fact that we watch Three Rivers on the following evening via our DVR, it’s recording time is “usually” shortened by Amazing Race which cuts into the Three Rivers time slot. I HATE THAT! Many people I speak to say they love Three Rivers but don’t want to get hooked on watching it because of the delay in showing caused by Amazing race. That’s why we use a DVR but even that gets screwed up with the programming delays. If anyone is to blame for Three Rivers ratings, it should be the network… Read more »

I’m so sick of medical dramas. CBS should cancel Three Rivers and bring back Moonlight!
