To little surprise, CBS has pulled Three Rivers from the Sunday night schedule, effective immediately. Will the show be back? Has it been cancelled?
Three Rivers follows a group of dedicated doctors and medical staffers who help those in need of organ transplants. The series stars Alex O’Loughlin, Katherine Moennig, Daniel Henney, Justina Machado, Christopher Hanke, Amber Clayton, and Alfre Woodard.
The medical drama got off to a slow start in the ratings back in early October. Unfortunately, the numbers only got worse as the weeks wore on and it became a likely candidate for early cancellation.
To CBS’ credit, the network has been patient with the series and has kept it on the air. Two weeks ago, the network tried switching timeslots with Cold Case. While the veteran crime drama benefited from the time change and attracted more viewers, Three Rivers did not.
Three Rivers has now been pulled from the Sunday night schedule. As expected, Cold Case will slip into the earlier timeslot and repeats of various crime dramas will take over at 10pm.
A CBS spokesperson has said that Three Rivers’ fate has not yet been decided but the network has not ordered any additional installments beyond the initial 13 episodes.
Eight episodes of the drama have been aired, leaving five on the shelf. CBS will likely burn them off either on Saturdays or during the summer months but, unless the execs have a major change of heart, Three Rivers is essentially cancelled.
What do you think? What went wrong with Three Rivers? Is Sunday night football to blame for the show’s failure to attract more viewers or was the show flawed?

I loved this show. maybe the problem was not enough avertising. I hope they reconsider. this is one of my favorite shows
Every time I find a show that I really enjoy it is cancelled. The show was very well done. It was emotional and exciting to see these doctors do so well with transplants. With so many people out there needing transplants it was good to see there is hope for them. The actors were great. I would have liked to see the black man get his heart.
I wish it would be reconsidered to cancel the show.
Another problem was the “Amazing Race” bleeding over into the 8pm time slot. I usually had to set my DVR for 8-9:30 (CST) because Three Rivers did not come on promptly at 8pm – it was usually around 8:30. 🙁 The other problem – no offense to Alex because he is a fine actor and needs to broaden his roles – but Moonlight fans did not want to see him in a medical show. We wanted to see him as a vampire. Even a vampire doctor working in an organ donar hospital would have been more appealing. Kudos to CBS… Read more »
Wow…the networks have done it again! I completely agree with Shelley. There are WAY too many “Reality TV” shows and very little of much substance, anymore. CBS is practically the only network I watch and can’t believe they are pulling, and possibly cancelling, one of the best shows in their lineup. Please…put it in a better time slot and give it another chance. We need quality programing!!!
I agree with all the people that Three Rivers was an excellent drama and that the time slot messed it up with football delaying it to where I only saw 5 episodes instead of the stated 8 episodes that aired. Please, Please keep this show on and put it in another time slot on a different night. Get rid of one of those stupid reality shows and keep Three Rivers. I loved Alex O’loughlin in Moonlight and then they canceled it and now there trying to do the same to Three Rivers. Do executives at CBS know good drama? If… Read more »
I think CBS has made a Big mistake in the cancellation of Three Rivers. With all the sports on Sundays as well as the holiday specials that seemed to start early, they didn’t give this wonderful program a chance. With nothing much good to watch on any of the networks in the evenings, this was a wonderful program that brought out many of the real problems faced with organ transplants. Things that aren’t known by the population outside of the medical profession. Bring it back and get rid of the violance and junk on CBS now.
I am very disappointed that Three Rivers is cancelled. I thought it was a powerful
new medical show and it gripped me almost immediately. I thought the medical content relating to the transplants was an interesting twist from the typical run of the mill medical drama series. The acting was great. The pace was great. I especially found the episode with Mandy Patinkin moving. Why is it being cancelled???????
I would love for you to bring this back! It truly was one of the BEST shows on T.V., I looked forward to watching it every week. The story lines were great and the cast was wonderful, not to mention great to look at! Please please consider bringing the show back. I think it was the best one on yet!
Loved this show and I am really sad that they are cancelling it. I Love Alex O’Laughlin and was sad when they cancelled Moonlight, and was so excited to see him in something new. He is the reason I started to watch it, then him, the entire cast and the storyline got me hooked. I hope they reconsider.
this officially sux one of my favorite shows yet again pulled why keep making shows if they arent gonna stay on give them a chance to get more ratings u cant expect a change over night with ratings run it at least 2 seasons this is bull!!!!!!!
I really looked forward to watching this show and when I was not home I made sure I recorded it, dont believe it was on long enough to really give everyone a chance to tune in, I feel like every time I start enjoying something they do this, AS they did with the UNIT
soooo disappointed that the show was canceled. It was the only show i actually watch all week. 🙁
OMG! Three Rivers was an awesome show. I blame Sunday Night football since it always caused Three rivers to not be on when it was scheduled to be on, and I agree with Sandy. Have Three Rivers on a different night so that it comes on when it is supposed to come on.
I agree, football messed it up!!! I work at 5am and had to DVR it, but i couldn’t wait to watch it….Give Three Rivers another chance!!!! Earlier time would be great!
I agree if the poor time slot. I would DVR it so I could watch it and always ended up missing the end because of football. Don’t put it up against Desperate Housewives. Maybe Tuesday night at 10 or Weds at 10. Needs a different time.
