To little surprise, CBS has pulled Three Rivers from the Sunday night schedule, effective immediately. Will the show be back? Has it been cancelled?
Three Rivers follows a group of dedicated doctors and medical staffers who help those in need of organ transplants. The series stars Alex O’Loughlin, Katherine Moennig, Daniel Henney, Justina Machado, Christopher Hanke, Amber Clayton, and Alfre Woodard.
The medical drama got off to a slow start in the ratings back in early October. Unfortunately, the numbers only got worse as the weeks wore on and it became a likely candidate for early cancellation.
To CBS’ credit, the network has been patient with the series and has kept it on the air. Two weeks ago, the network tried switching timeslots with Cold Case. While the veteran crime drama benefited from the time change and attracted more viewers, Three Rivers did not.
Three Rivers has now been pulled from the Sunday night schedule. As expected, Cold Case will slip into the earlier timeslot and repeats of various crime dramas will take over at 10pm.
A CBS spokesperson has said that Three Rivers’ fate has not yet been decided but the network has not ordered any additional installments beyond the initial 13 episodes.
Eight episodes of the drama have been aired, leaving five on the shelf. CBS will likely burn them off either on Saturdays or during the summer months but, unless the execs have a major change of heart, Three Rivers is essentially cancelled.
What do you think? What went wrong with Three Rivers? Is Sunday night football to blame for the show’s failure to attract more viewers or was the show flawed?

I liked it too.
I thoroughly enjoyed Three Rivers. The last comment was correct because there was not enough perversion it got cancelled. Maybe the network should look back to shows that had real meaning and content.
I loved this show! Please bring it back! The networks are cancelling so many good shows and are keeping the garbage shows. Give this show another chance!
I can’t believe yall canceled such a great show. I looked forward to seeing every sunday. It’s a great show and cleaner than alot of the shows that are on tv now. There just really isn’t any decent shows on tv now days, i don’t understand why everybody takes the good shows off and put stupid crappy shows on tv.
I think like the others, it stated when football was on so the show never had a chance, and at the beginning of the holiday season. Why don’t they try again this spring and see what the ratings are then. I would rather watch that then thosr stupid housewives.
I really think you should rethink pulling “Eastwick” from your lineup. Maybe instead of cancelling this fantastic show you should fire the people who cancel these interesting and entertaining shows and get people in there who allow the people to vote on what they want to see. ABC’s lineup for new shows is pathetic. I hope someone else picks up “Eastwick”. I’ll switch to their channel. You pulled the plug on “Eastwick” too soon. It was shaping into one of the best evening dramas I’ve ever seen. It had comedy, suspense, drama, great story line, believable acting and edge of… Read more »
The networks can’t seem to stand a decent program any more. Everything has to be violent & vulgar. I thought, finally, a good program to watch & one with an important message about the need for organ donation. But I might have known … CBS, Please put it into another time slot if you must but give Three Rivers another, LONGER chance!!
We stumbled on Three Rivers and loved it. It made our family talk about transplants and signing doner cards because of the real and very touching stories of both sides of this bittersweet situation that happens daily around the world. A series such as this should be a priority no matter what the ratings-if it doesn’t work on Sun night, try it on another night. Also, I never saw once a commerical or heard interviews with the cast about this series-where was Oprah? Needing a transplant doesn’t seem important until someone close to you will die without it and the… Read more »
My Family and I loved this show! I could actually watch this show with my teens and didn’t feel uncomfortable through the whole show. There is so much on TV that is not family appropriate, that its hard to believe they would cancel this show. Whats up with that!!!
You have canceled one of my favorite actor’s shows twice now. I’ll watch ABC
I think that Three Rivers is a wonderful show and should not be canceled. I will watch ABC on Sunday night.
I think its lack of perversion is what caused its demise. It was a breath of fresh air.
I loved, loved, loved this show! I thought the last 2 episodes were the best episodes of series television I have ever seen! I am sure they wil just add on some more trashy reality shows that actually burn brain cells while watching! Ughhh
I loved this show. Different time slot than Sunday would have brought more viewers. How about Thursday?
My family loves this show! We fell upon it one Sunday night while flicking through the stations ,we feel it wasn’t well advertised and the times slot could have been a factor. With Sunday football games being on, everything gets bushed back and people don’t like waiting. Please, bring this EDUCATIONAL and FAMILY oriented show back!! We need good TV shows ,such as THREE RIVERS.
