To little surprise, CBS has pulled Three Rivers from the Sunday night schedule, effective immediately. Will the show be back? Has it been cancelled?
Three Rivers follows a group of dedicated doctors and medical staffers who help those in need of organ transplants. The series stars Alex O’Loughlin, Katherine Moennig, Daniel Henney, Justina Machado, Christopher Hanke, Amber Clayton, and Alfre Woodard.
The medical drama got off to a slow start in the ratings back in early October. Unfortunately, the numbers only got worse as the weeks wore on and it became a likely candidate for early cancellation.
To CBS’ credit, the network has been patient with the series and has kept it on the air. Two weeks ago, the network tried switching timeslots with Cold Case. While the veteran crime drama benefited from the time change and attracted more viewers, Three Rivers did not.
Three Rivers has now been pulled from the Sunday night schedule. As expected, Cold Case will slip into the earlier timeslot and repeats of various crime dramas will take over at 10pm.
A CBS spokesperson has said that Three Rivers’ fate has not yet been decided but the network has not ordered any additional installments beyond the initial 13 episodes.
Eight episodes of the drama have been aired, leaving five on the shelf. CBS will likely burn them off either on Saturdays or during the summer months but, unless the execs have a major change of heart, Three Rivers is essentially cancelled.
What do you think? What went wrong with Three Rivers? Is Sunday night football to blame for the show’s failure to attract more viewers or was the show flawed?

Loved the show. Hated that it kept getting interrupted or was late starting by football.
Once I started watching it I became addicted my sister to. we’d pvr it so we’d be able to watch it more and more. I do hope they bring it back.. it was such a good show plus I loved the fact it was faced paced and not boring like most shows.. if you do bring it back don’t do it on thursdays… mmm Tuesdays would be a good night nothing much on the tv on tuesdays!

I thought Three Rivers was well cast and well written. It kept my attention through the set up at the beginning to the very end and it’s variety of results. I saw nothing wrong with the way the show was presented. . . except it’s deadly time slot on Sunday night. I felt this show should have been placed on a weeknight and definitely not opposite Sunday Night Football. The only advantage to that slot is it gave us quality TV to watch for those of us who prefer drama or comedy (or ANYTHING!) other than football! I’m really sorry… Read more »
Three Rivers was one of the best shows that was on.. It is so stupid that it has been canceled… Why can’t shows like that keep going? Please bring it back!!!!
What a stupid decision to cancel such a good show over a stupid futball game.I hope you (cbs) brings the show back if not on sundays then some other week day
Ok CBS Three Rivers might not be getting the reviews YOU want but so many people watch it. so many almost 7 million that may be not much to you guys but it is to me maybe because i don’t know about buisness and all that but did you ever think that a lot of people have the thing to record the show so that they can watch it later. so my question is; are you counting those people? or are you just counting the people who watch it only at that time? think about that if you haven’t.
I liked the show but not the time slot
I was slightly disappointed in the show. Let’s face it….Alex was destined for the roll of the moody and dark Mick St. John in Moonlight. To me, he was a vampire….in Three Rivers he was just another actor pretending to be a doctor. It’s time for Alex to move on to a roll better suited for his talents.
Everyone should go to the CBS.com website, and leave their comments on that site, so that CBS can see what everyone is saying about Three Rivers. Maybe they will see that we all loved Three Rivers, and they will bring it back.
I am very disappointed that Three Rivers was canceled. I looked forward to watching it on Sundays instead of a football game I wasn’t interested in. It was a show with incredible emotions, something we desperately need! Please give it another shot on a different day. I agree with Saturday night.
I think football had a lot to do with it. It was very rarely on and when it was it wasn’t at the regular time. I loved this show thought it was very interested and love Alex. We need this show brought back. How about on Sat nights. There is absolutely nothing to watch on Sat night this show would be great.
i really look forward to that show every sunday night. I hope you bring it back it has a lot to offer about real life. give it another chance please
Three Rivers was one of the best shows on TV. I don’t understand why clean family shows always get cancelled, you (CBS) thinks it has to be full of violence, sex, bad languauge for it to be any good, and no it won’t stand up to football, because we all know that the world would end if there wasn’t any football, basketball etc to watch.(yeah right, lets give it a try and see) Just look at all the other networks and see what night is lacking with a very good show and put it on that night, don’t be stupid… Read more »
