To little surprise, CBS has pulled Three Rivers from the Sunday night schedule, effective immediately. Will the show be back? Has it been cancelled?
Three Rivers follows a group of dedicated doctors and medical staffers who help those in need of organ transplants. The series stars Alex O’Loughlin, Katherine Moennig, Daniel Henney, Justina Machado, Christopher Hanke, Amber Clayton, and Alfre Woodard.
The medical drama got off to a slow start in the ratings back in early October. Unfortunately, the numbers only got worse as the weeks wore on and it became a likely candidate for early cancellation.
To CBS’ credit, the network has been patient with the series and has kept it on the air. Two weeks ago, the network tried switching timeslots with Cold Case. While the veteran crime drama benefited from the time change and attracted more viewers, Three Rivers did not.
Three Rivers has now been pulled from the Sunday night schedule. As expected, Cold Case will slip into the earlier timeslot and repeats of various crime dramas will take over at 10pm.
A CBS spokesperson has said that Three Rivers’ fate has not yet been decided but the network has not ordered any additional installments beyond the initial 13 episodes.
Eight episodes of the drama have been aired, leaving five on the shelf. CBS will likely burn them off either on Saturdays or during the summer months but, unless the execs have a major change of heart, Three Rivers is essentially cancelled.
What do you think? What went wrong with Three Rivers? Is Sunday night football to blame for the show’s failure to attract more viewers or was the show flawed?

Another good program canceled. I am done with network tv. Between the never ending commercials and mindless reality shows, I’m glad I have HBO. No commercials and great programs.
Three Rivers was one of the best shows on TV. It was one of the Networks worst moves. There are alot of stupid, boring and unnecessary shows on this network that need to be REMOVED and CANCELLED.
Three Rivers needs to be put back on the network immediately. It was the best show
BRING IT BACK AT ONCE!!!!
I believe cancelling this show is going to make the ratings worse then it already is. This was a wonderful show and it had alot of meaning to it just not mindless TV.
This was one of the few new shows I actually enjoyed. It’s very disappointing CBS couldn’t have given it more time, get past football season. And what’s with CBS putting some reality show on after the Super Bowl? Shouldn’t they take a cue from other networks who, after having the game, put on shows to boost ratings (or put on their most popular show(s) like NBC did with Friends?). Who is making these decisions on CBS??
This is an excellent show and deserves another chance. It’s ridiculous that football was always interfering with its time slot. Please bring it back. It’s one of the few quality shows left!!
I am commenting again, don’t know if this will go through. It is definitely because of football, because when men usually watch football, the women have to record their shows possibly, and Three Rivers is on when football is on. Terrible slot for such a good honest drama. Again, there has to be a better way to get ratings, somehow to get ratings from the DVR recordings or VCR, whichever. You execs are so wrong to cancel this show, listen to the people. We want Three Rivers to stay on!
I really enjoyed the show, and I was very disappointed when it was taken off the air. I have been looking out for it. Those reality shows have no merit!!!! This was a good drama show and needs to be given a fair chance.
I really enjoyed this show and I think the previous commenter is correct. I don’t like reality shows and it seems like the good dramas end up cancelled. Not sure who makes up the ratings but they obviously don’t have any depth and are inclined to mindless tv.
This was a good show with interesting characters. It was difficult that football messed up the timing. No wonder cable is stealing viewers from the networks. They won’t invest in good drama or comedy. They only cater to the lowest common denominator with reality shows that are cheap and mindless
Loved this show. Unfair to a new show to put in the time slot it was in.
Looked forward to the show, but sunday football did hinder it…I would tape the show and watch it at another time..Please Re-think your decision..I have spoke to several of my friends who enjoyed the show..
I LOVED this show!!! We were actually told to watch it for one of my classes in NURSING SCHOOL because it shows things that we may never have a chance to see! It was the highlight of my sunday night! I would take a break from working on clinical prep sheets to relax and watch a good show. Football is always to blame for everything! why don’t they cancel football instead (yeah i know it would never happen) but then keep football on the SPORTS channels
Too bad, this was a very good, thoughtful, and insightful program. And it told a lot about organ donation and what it means to those who receive a donated organ and about the families who agreed to donate their loved-one’s organ. This show can’t be beat. It is unfortunate that those shows watched from the DVR do not get counted in the ratings; many of us cannot watch a show when it is actually airing. There needs to be a change in the ratings system.
Three Rivers is a good show. it is pretty bad that it was pulled football did not help never does a show. hopefully CBS will get there heads out of there #$@$#E!!!!!!! and bring it back.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think that Sunday night football ruined it! The show was almost always starting late. It should be given another chance.
