To little surprise, CBS has pulled Three Rivers from the Sunday night schedule, effective immediately. Will the show be back? Has it been cancelled?
Three Rivers follows a group of dedicated doctors and medical staffers who help those in need of organ transplants. The series stars Alex O’Loughlin, Katherine Moennig, Daniel Henney, Justina Machado, Christopher Hanke, Amber Clayton, and Alfre Woodard.
The medical drama got off to a slow start in the ratings back in early October. Unfortunately, the numbers only got worse as the weeks wore on and it became a likely candidate for early cancellation.
To CBS’ credit, the network has been patient with the series and has kept it on the air. Two weeks ago, the network tried switching timeslots with Cold Case. While the veteran crime drama benefited from the time change and attracted more viewers, Three Rivers did not.
Three Rivers has now been pulled from the Sunday night schedule. As expected, Cold Case will slip into the earlier timeslot and repeats of various crime dramas will take over at 10pm.
A CBS spokesperson has said that Three Rivers’ fate has not yet been decided but the network has not ordered any additional installments beyond the initial 13 episodes.
Eight episodes of the drama have been aired, leaving five on the shelf. CBS will likely burn them off either on Saturdays or during the summer months but, unless the execs have a major change of heart, Three Rivers is essentially cancelled.
What do you think? What went wrong with Three Rivers? Is Sunday night football to blame for the show’s failure to attract more viewers or was the show flawed?

MY SON AND I WATCH THREE RIVER EVERY SUNDAY NITE. IT WAS GOOD SHOW THEY GET GOOD AND CLEAN SHOW AND TV AND THEY TAKE IT OF. MY SON I BLIND AND HE COULD WATCH THE SHOW WITH ME TRY TO TELL HIM WHAT IS GOING ON. SINCE THERE IS NO SHOW FOR THE BLIND. I GUESS THEY DONT MATTER. CBS IS VERY STUPID FOR TAKING IT OFF. SO NOW THEY ONLY THING WE WATCH IN CBS IN60 MIN. ON SUNDAY
NO! DAMNIT! >=[
This actually really pissed me off. I think the beginning was a rough start and maybe a little slow but it was getting really effing good. Not to mention, I’m intrigued by what they have to do. CBS!! PLEASE BRING THIS SHOW BACK!! =[
BAD BAD Choice. This was a great show. Why cancel??????????????? Try again….PLEASE
I am sick of Cold Case — I don’t want to see reruns of it. Why cancel a great up-and-comer like Three Rivers so quickly? I loved Three Rivers. I’m a Kate Moennig fan and was excited to see she had a primetime spot in this series. And, surprisingly, it was a well-written, human story and I looked forward to it each week. The only drag was having to wait for football to be over and then Cold Case… Whoever posted that it’s a much better drama than Mercy is right. It’s much more intriguing and the actors are far… Read more »
As usual CBS screws up. This is the only CBS show I watch so I guess I can just delete the channel completely. Idiots.
I totally agree with all the previous comments. This was the cleanest medical show that I have ever watched. I always looked forward to Sunday and planned other things around this show. If I absolutley could not watch it on Sunday, I saw it the next day on the website. CBS, please do not cancel this show. It is Aaaaaamazzzzingggg! Thank you.
ok you get a great show, nobody is sleeping with each other, or trying to sleep around and you cancel the show. Bring it back. We need a great medical show on TV where it is a medical show and not who is sleeping with whom show.
I am sorry to see Three rivers cancelled, it was a good show with a different medical view, all about transplants and the stories behind them. Very different from the normal medical show. I thoroughly enjoyed the show.
It is hard to compete with football… why would you set yourself up for failure putting a brand new show on that would be affected by football weekly. This poor show never had a chance. I think it need to be brought back, maybe on a different night. It is hard to get into a show that is not on the same time every week due to football. Please give Three Rivers a chance. This is great show with alot of talented actors. I love this show.. don’t be so quick to give up on it.
I loved the show. But of course if I like then it eventually gets cancelled. I agree it was enjoyable watching a medical show where the focus was on life and death medical crisis rather than personal crisis of who is sleeping with who. I REALLY hope it doesn’t get cancelled.
I loved the show. It was one of my favorites. Again, it was refreshing NOT to see all the doctors having sex every 5 minutes. It had a lot of drama, and it was interesting to start finding out who Andy really was. It’s so disappointing that a really GOOD show is going down the tubes so quickly.
Ok they cancel Three Rivers, Guiding Light and As the World Turns what is going on. The network needs to reconsider cancelling this show it was one of the best they have come out with in a while. I am so tired of reality shows and getting rid of shows that I really want to watch.
It is really a shame. I recently heard about the show and have watched all 8 episodes within the last few weeks without know the show was not coming back. It was nice to see Katherine Moennig back in a series and hopefully the execs will find a timeslot at a later date that will benefit the show in order to bring it back.
I really liked this show. It was the only show I watched on network TV on Sunday Night. I do believe that Sunday Night football was the reason the did not get the viewers. Maybe CBS should schedule this show on a week night. Maybe in the same time slot as NBC’s “Mercy”. “Three Rivers” is a much better show.
What a shame that CBS is not going forward with a great show. Yes Sunday night football was keeping people from tuning in. I sure hope they give it another shot. The show featured real human interest without the sexual sidetracking of other shows such as Grey’s Anatomy and ER.
