To little surprise, CBS has pulled Three Rivers from the Sunday night schedule, effective immediately. Will the show be back? Has it been cancelled?
Three Rivers follows a group of dedicated doctors and medical staffers who help those in need of organ transplants. The series stars Alex O’Loughlin, Katherine Moennig, Daniel Henney, Justina Machado, Christopher Hanke, Amber Clayton, and Alfre Woodard.
The medical drama got off to a slow start in the ratings back in early October. Unfortunately, the numbers only got worse as the weeks wore on and it became a likely candidate for early cancellation.
To CBS’ credit, the network has been patient with the series and has kept it on the air. Two weeks ago, the network tried switching timeslots with Cold Case. While the veteran crime drama benefited from the time change and attracted more viewers, Three Rivers did not.
Three Rivers has now been pulled from the Sunday night schedule. As expected, Cold Case will slip into the earlier timeslot and repeats of various crime dramas will take over at 10pm.
A CBS spokesperson has said that Three Rivers’ fate has not yet been decided but the network has not ordered any additional installments beyond the initial 13 episodes.
Eight episodes of the drama have been aired, leaving five on the shelf. CBS will likely burn them off either on Saturdays or during the summer months but, unless the execs have a major change of heart, Three Rivers is essentially cancelled.
What do you think? What went wrong with Three Rivers? Is Sunday night football to blame for the show’s failure to attract more viewers or was the show flawed?

WOW! Bring it back! One of the best Drama shows out there. The problem was Football running over and ******** up the schedule. DVRs do not fix the scheduling problem because the time slot is set!! CBS — do the right thing and put them in a slot that allows them not to be run over by another show.
If CBS is unwilling perhaps NBC will pick it up and put it in the slot of the Jay Lenno show one night a week.
i really wish cbs, would get a grip. they keep cancelling GREAT PROGRAMS. SUCH A THREE RIVERS, WITHOUT A TRACE, CROSSING JORDON. THESE WERE SOME OF THE BEST PROGRAMS ON THE AIR. WHY SHOULD I WATCH CBS. YOU ALL DO NOT KNOW WHAT IS GOOD. IF YOU DID THESE 3 PROGRAMS WOULD STILL BE ON THE AIR. SO IF CBS REALLY CARES ABOUT ITS VIEWERS, IT WOULD BRING BACK THESE PROGRAMS.
I absolutely loved the show. I asked co-workers if they had seen the show and they had not been aware of the show on Sunday night.
I believe this show could be very successful if you advertised properly. I never saw an ad promoting the show. I discovered it accidentally while waiting for Cold Case.
I rank it with “Good Wife” in quality and it was equally entertaining.
I am very disappointed it is not on the air.
You could have a winner with this show, if properly promoted.

I cannot believe that Three Rivers was cancelled. I was already to became an Organ donor because of all the imformation the show gave me. Go figure you finally have a show on the air that could help people and you take it off. The time slot for the show was not fair at all. This show should have another chance on another day and time. That is how I feel, but as always don’t listen to the people do what you want. For once why don’t you replace some of those stupid shows you air.
As an organ donor (I donated a kidney to my Dad three years ago), I was really excited to watch this show. But after seeing a few episodes I just couldn’t keep watching it – it was SO UNREALISTIC!!! I realize, all tv shows are and it’s entertainment. But I have so much pride for organ donation and the work it involved that watching this lousy attempt was unbearable. I mean, come on, doctors specialize in one type of organ…. they don’t specialize in all organ donations! And the patients aren’t kept on a futuristic organ donor/recpient floor! If it… Read more »
Emily…I am sure you have not seen every donor hospital in the USA. I personally know 2 doctors that do organ transplants in Cincinnati. One does hearts, lungs, and livers. The other does hearts, eyes, kidneys, and livers. I don’t know where you think you know everything about every doctor that does transplants.. I think it is great what you did. But please, do not decide that it makes you an expert on all things transplant. I am sure, based on my personal knowledge of transplant doctors that are friends, there must be others that do every type. And how… Read more »
Greg, I never claimed to see every transplant hospital – that would be ridiculous. Even though the doctors you know specialize in multiple organs, are there doctors that do every type of organ trasnplant possible? I don’t know. Maybe there are. That was what I meant and wasn’t too clear looking back. As far as my comment about organ floors… again I wasn’t too clear. My focus was more on the futuristic look of the show’s set. My recovery floor was for all transplants, so I know that’s how it works. But not everyone was there…. the most serious transplant… Read more »
@Emily: Great response Emily.
Please bring back Three Rivers.I loved it.Organ donor info was the best.Find a slot for it.
I love three rivers, One of the best shows around..its even made me tear up with the fantastic stories… I want them to finish of the series and then make another!!
One more thing….I agree with a few others… Sunday nights AFTER football is a BS place to put that show. I would much rather see it on Friday at 9pm. I can’t stand medium. However, to fix that problem of knowing when it would air, I set my dvr to record everything on Sunday nights from 8pm until 1am. That fixed that problem. Also, I have always been an organ donor. Since I was 16 and got my first license. I know, for a fact, no less than 23 of my friends became donors after watching the show. They were… Read more »
I am so upset ! I was a die hard ER fan and have never liked any of the other medical dramas , but after ER ended I was willing to give one a chance and thought Three Rivers sounded really good . Now nothing could ever replace ER for me but Three Rivers was very very enjoyable and could have easily become a close second to ER !!
This is a GREAT show. My 3 kids and I never missed it. I don’t know where you get your ratings from, but they are morons. I know many hundreds of people personally, and only a FEW of them said they didn’t watch the show. And even they said it was because they watch something else then…NOT because they didn’t like it. I mean wow… House is a GREAT show. I love it. But I don’t watch it because something else is on that I watch.. I watch house on re-runs on another channel. So I hope they keep making… Read more »
I loved Three Rivers! It needs to be given a fair chance, putting it on Sundays after football when nothing starts or ends when its supposed to how are you supposed to find it? I tried to record it and wound up with another show, even though that was the time slot for Three Rivers. Rarely was it there and if it was I only got a portion because football pushed everything back. Put it a slot and keep it there and give it a chance!
I am really upset that this show has been cancelled! I was ready to get in on a new series and this one was the best one I saw advertised at the time the fall season started. I do believe that the football season had everything to do with the ratings because when I would go to set my dvr to record it, it would not get it all and I would have to go online to watch it because of the football game going over on the time!
Another thing I wanted to add was that it really made me aware of becoming an organ donor!
I really enjoyed the show there aren’t many shows out there worth watching for those of us over 50 I have been looking for it for weeks.
Please don’t cancel Three Rivers. It was one of my favourite new shows. My only problem with it was that it aired after football, which meant that it very seldom started at the same time. If you want to have a successful show, people need to be able to put it into their schedule at the same time each week, or at least be able to tape it successfully. I feel that moving it to a different time on a different day of the week would probably help the ratings by providing a consistent presence. Please reconsider!!!!
