To little surprise, TNT has cancelled their low-rated drama, Trust Me. Despite having two former network stars as the show’s leads, the series never took off.
Trust Me revolves around a fictional Chicago ad agency. Tom Cavanagh and Eric McCormack play co-workers and friends whose relationship changes when one of them gets promoted. Others in the cast include Geoffrey Arend, Sarah Clarke, Mike Damus, Griffin Dunne, and Monica Potter.
The show debuted on January 26th of this year, following TNT’s successful The Closer. It attracted 3.4 million viewers, losing about half of its lead-in’s audience. The second episode dropped to just 1.9 million viewers and things got worse from there. The network began airing episodes in double doses by mid-March and the last two installments ran on April 7th.
McCormack obviously saw the writing on the wall and signed on to a new ABC pilot last month. Now, TNT has made it official, announcing that Trust Me won’t be returning for a second year.
The network’s executive VP and head of programming, Michael Wright, believes that Trust Me was a creative success but just couldn’t find an audience.

I really wanted to like Trust Me. Unfortunately I should have trusted myself after the first episode and just stopped watching. Finally deleting episodes in the que on my DVR. It was just boring..
It’s such a shame. This was a great series, great humor, great writing.
Why do we have sooooo many Doctor’s shows and none of the Marketing world???
I really LOOOVED !!!! this show, is a shame TNT, shame on you!
While I like both lead actors (Tom Cavanagh was great in Love Monkey, another show with great writing and characters), I felt that I just couldn’t get into them being ad-men. The character development was good and quirky and entertaining. I guess what I was looking for was a Thirtysomething with a bit more wit and less drama. I didn’t get that. After four episodes, I dropped the show from my weekly DVRing. Maybe I wanted them to have a bit more success in the business, maybe something else was missing. But whatever it was, it was missing for me.… Read more »
Aw..come on what do you want? Does it have to be shoot em up, exploding objects, car chases. Is that all we are gonna get. What’s wrong with witty dialogue and fleshing out characters into real people. I did detect a streak of bad luck that seemed to make success for our main characters elusive. This could work had they given it some time. My wife and I both loved the show and remarked consistently how we appreciated the strong shows on TNT. I think they were cowards not to try at least another 1/2 of a season or a… Read more »
Started out slow, but then started kicking butt and taking names. The “anonymous” evaluation episode was some of the best scripted television I have seen in a long time. Boo for cancelling. TRUST ME, holds up.
Mr. VP pr whoever there at TNT: this show is amazing and brilliantly cast and acted, all the people I know love it! Please please reconsider and give them another chance!
This is one show I will definitely miss. Having spent many years in the advertising business, I found the humor spot on and I loved seeing Tom Cavanagh again.
I can truly say I’m going to miss all these people at this ad agency and hope TNT reconsiders and gives them another chance.
Well, I for one LOVED the show! The absolutely smartest dialogue, and brilliantly cast. To see it canceled so soon is ludicrous. Let’s not forget there were MANY ultimately classic TV shows that had low ratings starting out…SEINFELD comes to mind.
TNT should definitely reconsider!

This show was great…. i feel like i’ve been punched in the stomach. Is it possible another network could pick it up?
I really liked this show. It was the only TNT original I watched. I’m going to miss Trust Me.
I was so happy to see Tom Cavanagh involved in something again- I used to love seeing him in the lead role on Ed. Personally, I don’t think they really gave this show a chance. Another great show cancelled way too soon–
Trust Me was a great show and entertaining.
So sorry to hear this sad news. Just when I knew there was a show that was great. I will miss this show.
It’s a pitty. It was a great show and i loved it.
Shame, I liked the show very much.
