Despite lots of less-than-favorable reviews, NBC’s Whitney sitcom seemed to have a healthy start last night, per the fast affiliate ratings.
The new series premiered at 9:30pm, following the return of The Office, and registered a 3.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 6.71 million viewers. It was third place in its timeslot, and from the early numbers, looks to have narrowly beaten the debut of Person of Interest on CBS.
Year-to-year, Whitney improved over the debut of Community by 46% in the demo and 34% in total viewership.
The Office had a strong start as Whitney’s lead-in (3.9) and Prime Suspect, which followed at 10pm, had a disappointing one (1.8). It will be key to see how many fled Whitney before the episode was over. We’ll have a better idea of this show’s future once we see those figures and when we see how many viewers return next week. For now, Whitney’s future looks positive.
NOTE: An updated list of the TV series’ ratings are now available.
What do you think? Were you one of the millions who watched Whitney last night? Will you be back? Should the series continue or should it be cancelled instead?

Absolutely LOVE this show, hope it continues!!!
Whitney – Campy taken to the worst level yet. Please put this show out of misery and cancel it!
I saw the first and second episode and I am hooked
On Whitney. She is funny, cute, and just what
The change tv needs. Keep it up whitney!
Won’t watch ever again, can’t stand the laugh overs.
This show should die a quick and painless death. The 70’s/80’s laugh track delivered on queue at each punch line; overly punched by the actors; at the same volume and intensity was annoying to say the least. NBC I know when a joke is funny and these tired one liners were not. The characters were as three dimensional as a piece of paper. Sad because I like Whitney Cummings’ stand up.
It was easy funny and not a big deal. I laughed and that is all I was looking for. Hope to see more.
