It’s no big surprise that CBS is considering making a change to its Monday night line-up. Though Worst Week was hailed by critics as the best new sitcom of the season (not that there’s much competition for that title), the public doesn’t agree.
Worst Week debuted on September 22nd on CBS. The quirky, single-camera sitcom follows unlucky Sam (Kyle Bornheimer) as he tries to make a good impression on the family of his pregnant fiancé. The series, a remake of a UK sitcom, also stars Erinn Hayes (The Winner), Nancy Lenehan (Grace Under Fire), and Kurtwood Smith (That ’70s Show).
The sitcom premiered in the plum spot following CBS’ most-watched sitcom, Two and a Half Men. Unfortunately, Week doesn’t seem to be a good fit. The show debuted to 10.87 million viewers and a 3.8/8 rating/share in the 18-49 demographic. It was nearly tied for second place in viewers (with the second half hour of NBC’s declining Heroes) but was significantly lower in the important demographic.

A bigger issue is that the sitcom lost a third of lead-in Men’s audience. As the weeks have progressed, Week’s ratings have improved a bit but it continues to lose over 30% from its lead-in. Last season, both The New Adventures of Old Christine and Rules of Engagement retained a bigger percentage of Men’s viewers and the network was barely satisfied with them.
Despite the network’s order for two additional Week scripts, it’s looking doubtful that Week will air throughout the November sweeps period. Next Monday’s episode of Week was scheduled to be a repeat and CBS has replaced it with a rerun of the Wednesday night comedy Gary Unmarried. The freshman Jay Mohr sitcom just had its best night to date and the Tiffany network wants to see how well it will perform in Week’s spot. Gary is similar in tone to Men and will likely retain more of its audience.
For now, Week is scheduled to return on November 3rd, a week into the sweeps month. If Gary performs well, it seems likely that the sitcom could permanently bump Week from the timeslot. Will Worst Week return to Monday nights, shift to Wednesdays, go on hiatus, or disappear altogether? Any way you look at it, the show’s future doesn’t look good. Stay tuned!

My fiancee made me watch this show. Every time he would mess something up, I started saying “Ow, My Balls.”
The movie “Idiocracy” is coming true, and this move is the proof. How long till they rename “Fudruckers?”
Please don’t cancel this show! I find it funny!
Please, please, please, don’t cancel this one! THIS SHOW IS ABSOLUTELY HILARIOUS!!

How can anyone enjoy this show?
It is so predictable.. it ridiculous. You can see what
Worst Week is great. Kyle Bornheimer and Erinn Hayes give wonderful performances as Mel and Sam. CBS should get rid of Gary Unmarried, not Worst Week. I haven’t liked a sit com in a while and I love Worst Week.
“How do you find a child swallowing a ring because of poor babysitting funny I would never understand it. This show depict child abuse, animal abuse, spousal abuse.” It’s a sit-com people…it’s not real. I for one enjoy the show immenseley…please give it a chance CBS.

CBS is almost as cancel happy as FOX. Actually, I take that back. FOX at least let Arrested Development run 3 seasons with low ratings before cancelling it. So CBS is even worse than FOX. Altho they did give Jericho somewhat of a chance.
I dont see this show continuing much longer. Hopefully theyll let it have at least a full 7 days and they can wrap up all the loose ends (I say 7 days cuz 7 days is a week, but they might not be going for a literal thign with it)
I hope CBS dosn’t cancell this show. I love it. I just love watching 4 comedy shows i acually enjoy in a row on one night. this will suck realy bad if CBS cancells it.
I think the show is funny and not dry at all. Give it a chance CBS.
Most of was so funny….I didn’t like the peeing on the goose part and other such humor but basically loved the show. Can’t believe that Gary Unmarried would do better. I don’t like to see people arguing…..same old humor as ‘Til Death. I almost died laughing when he went down to turn on the lights and the painting catch of fire….and in the other show where the gold cart ran into the building. Yes, total shame if it goes and some of the others stay like Gary Unmarried and Kath and Kim. My favorite is What About Sam but without… Read more »
while i respect the opinions of the other posters, i really think that there was to much hype for a show that just wasn’t that good. I can see where the idea was funny, i mean we all feel like that has happened to us, and we can all appreciate it happening to someone else, but the show was just to “dry”. it really seemed to fall short of what it was inteneded for. I personally think that CBS, should go ahead and do away with it, and come up with something else. sorry guys.
That is a shame if they do pull it. I liked the episodes I’ve seen thus far. The above comment is true though about the competition in that time slot. Probably insurmountable.

That is such bull—-. I like Worst Week! The show is great and funny. I think the problem is with Dancing with the Stars, Samantha Who, Heroes, and Prison Break which are all on the same time and night. The cast is good, the acting is good, love the storylines and Kyle is so adorable and hot. Please don’t pull the plug just yet. I would rather watch Worst Week than Rules of Engagement on Monday nights after Two and a Half Men. Give this show a chance before you pull the plug or (I hate to say this), put… Read more »
