There are 26 letters in the alphabet but NBC’s A to Z TV show only lasted five episodes before being cancelled. The peacock network has decided not to order any more installments beyond their initial 13 episode order.
A to Z follows the story of Andrew (Ben Feldman) and Zelda (Cristin Milioti) — two young people who are very different. Their relationship shouldn’t work and yet it does. Is it true love forever or just a detour in destiny? The rest of the cast includes Christina Kirk, Henry Zebrowski, Hong Chau, Lenora Crichlow, and Katey Sagal.
Debuting on October 2nd, the series got off to a poor start with a 1.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.79 million viewers. Viewership fell 24% in week two and the ratings kept falling every week after that. This week’s installment, opposite CBS’ returning sitcoms, hit a new low with a 0.7 in the demo and 2.49 million viewers.
Based on the numbers, it’s no surprise that NBC is cancelling A to Z. It is a bit surprising however that the show is staying in production. Eleven episodes have been shot and two more will be produced. Hopefully, the sitcom’s writer will be able to adjust the remaining scripts to bring a fitting conclusion to Andrew and Zelda’s story.
For now, NBC plans to air the eight remaining episodes. The Blacklist will take over the Thursdays at 9pm timeslot on February 5th.
Companion sitcom Bad Judge has also been cancelled.
What do you think? Do you like the A to Z TV show? Do you think that NBC should have cancelled it? Would you have watched a second season?
I love this show!!! I really hope they somehow reconsider canceling it.
Loved the writing (and love the work of Will McCormack and Rashida Jones) so I am deeply surprised to hear the show is cancelled. Fingers are crossed it will perhaps be tested at another time slot as the show is hilarious—love all of the characters and Bob Bird with her HR sidekick are terrific.
Was hoping it would make it one season, maybe two. Was curious to see how it resolved.
I have enjoyed the show. I work evenings, so have to watch it on the weekends on On-Demand. It is one I watch every weekend with a select few other shows I enjoy. I think it is very funny. I would like to see what happens to their relationship at the end- so I am disappointed that it is cancelled. I also find the entire cast enjoyable.
This is a great show, I cannot believe it is being cancelled. It should be moved to a different time slot and it would do much better. Tough Competition. It is funny and very well written! If it followed The Voice the rating would have been much higher!
its very interesting i like it…….
My wife and I liked this show. Was this show ever promoted? I found it on Hulu. Never saw a commercial for it.
I’m really upset that this show is being canceled. It was different from the other shows on TV…this one was actually something most of us can relate to. With all of the crime/cop shows and pseudo-reality shows, this was a nice change of pace. I liked this almost as much as I liked Up All Night…and that was canceled too. no wonder I love my Netflix so much…things don’t get canceled there.
I loved this show. I’m very sad that they are cancelling it…
I live in Greece and I also watched the show from the beginning and I have to say that I can see why NBC is cancelling it.The first episode was very interesting and different from other romantic comedies but as the weeks went by nothing good was on.In the last three episodes that was aired Zelda and Andrew didn’t even share a kiss!We don’t know how they feel about each other,if they had sex, what they have in mind.We didn’t even see how their bedrooms look like.My point is I don’t feel connected with the characters and the scriptwriter still keeps… Read more »
I have loved a to z. I really hate that it is being taken off the air. I wanted to see what happens next. I feel we should at least see the program from a to z at least. I can’t watch all the shows at once so I watch later. Do not want to miss.
I love this show- it’s a feel good show that just makes you happy after you watch it. Compared to all the drama out there- this show keeps it simple and really makes you happy. I am not sure why you would want to cancel a feel good show. There are not many like that out there. It may not have the best ratings but if you pin it against a show full of drama like scandal it’s hard to have those ratings- but that doesn’t mean the show should be cancelled. It is truly a very simple, sweet and… Read more »
There was no way for them to compete with #TGIT on ABC
Not sure how this show was different from all failed romantic comedies of the past. Another so-what show, so why watch.
I enjoyed this show very much. The two leads were sweet, and the supporting cast was decent (Big Bird was by far my favorite), but I guess the overall result didn’t meet the viewers’ high expectations. I will be sorry not to see all the way to Z, but I hope the writers have enough time to craft some kind of resolution. Of all the rom-coms that debuted this fall, I thought this one had the highest chance of survival. Actually, I am shocked that Selfie wasn’t the first one cancelled! Can’t believe that **** is still going.
They’re planning to keep running A to Z until the episodes have aired. I suspect ABC won’t be ordering any more Selfie episodes so it will likely be off the air first.
Oh boo!!! I loved this show.
looks good but i think it might get canceled
