Season five of Arrested Development is well into development. According to Deadline, series creator Mitch Hurwitz is writing the new season, which will be modeled after a serialized true crime series.
Season four of the revived FOX series debuted on Netflix in 2013.
Hurwitz said season five will follow the end of season four, when Buster was arrested for allegedly murdering Lucille Austero. He mentioned the season will be in the vein of the many popular serialized true crime docs like The Jinx or Netflix’s recent series, Making a Murderer.
However, Hurwitz’ plans have been waylaid by two factors: cast scheduling and the “surreal” occurrence of plot lines happening in real life. First, season four featured the storyline of a putting a wall between the U.S. and Mexico. Now, with Donald Trump, that idea’s spiraled into reality.
Hurwitz also had to scrap a plotline for Jeffrey Tambor’s character George Bluth to transition into a woman because Tambor plays a man transitioning into a woman in Amazon’s Transparent.
He did mention that season five will happen. It just depends on the cast’s schedules at this moment.
What do you think? Would you watch a murder mystery season of Arrested Development? What would you like to happen in season five.
