canceled + renewed TV shows - TV Series Finale

Batwoman: Season One Ratings

Published: February 25, 2020

Batwoman TV show on The CW: ratings (canceled or renewed for season 2?)Over the past seven years, The CW has introduced several DC Comics-inspired TV series and the network hasn’t cancelled any of them. Will Batwoman, The CW’s second female superhero series, be a success? Will Batwoman be cancelled or renewed for season two? Stay tuned. *Status update below.

An action mystery series, Batwoman stars Ruby Rose, Meagan Tandy, Camrus Johnson, Nicole Kang, Rachel Skarsten, Dougray Scott, and Elizabeth Anweis. The show is based on the DC Comics character and revolves around Kate Kane (Rose), a strong woman who never planned to be Gotham’s new vigilante. After a dishonorable discharge from military school and years of brutal survival training, Kate returns home to Gotham City when the Alice in Wonderland gang targets her father, Jacob Kane (Scott), and his security firm. They kidnap his best Crow officer, Kate’s ex-girlfriend Sophie Moore (Tandy). In order to help her family and her city, she becomes the thing that her father loathes the most — a vigilante. With the help of her compassionate stepsister, Mary (Kang), and crafty Luke Fox (Johnson), Kate continues the legacy of her missing cousin, Bruce Wayne (aka Batman), as Batwoman.

The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.

2/24 update: You can see the latest night’s ratings in context.

Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.

Note: These are the final national numbers (unless noted with an “*”). These are different from the fast affiliate numbers which are just estimates of the actual ratings. The final nationals are typically released within 24 hours of the programming or, in the case of weekends and holidays, a couple days later.

How are your shows doing in the ratings? Check the current rankings:
A&E | ABC | AMC | Bravo | CBS | CMT | The CW | FOX | Freeform | FX | FXX
Hallmark | HBO | History | MTV | NBC | OWN | Showtime | Starz | Syfy | TBS
TNT | TV Land | USA Network | WGN America

What do you think? Do you like the Batwoman TV series on The CW? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?

*1/7/20 update: The CW has renewed Batwoman for a second season.

Batwoman wasn’t the best at first I admit but it’s gotten a whole lot better and is totally addicting by the end of the first episode. Contrary to other comments the emotions in this series are very relatable. Please RENEW for SEASON TWO.

Well TBH, the show is not a huge pile of SJW wokeness like i expected it to be, but it’s a huge pile of BAD ACTING, BAD CGI, BAD DIALOGUE and characters doing dumb things that is hard to relate to. Ruby Rose acting is a HUGE drawback of the show. And the writer actually making Kate character becomes more and more unlikeable every episode

Except for her father who is literally in charge of the biggest security force in Gotham and Mouse who even Alice seems to be scared of and his psycho dad who is terrifying and the complete opposite of soyboy. Also her ex’s husband who is not stupid enough to be strung along by someone who doesn’t fully love him. I would say those are all pretty strong male characters. Oh and btw the only guy that looks like that and the guy you are probably talking about is Lucas Fox who has always been a nerdy character and in fact,… Read more »

I know I can not be the only one tired of Hollywood or even D. C. ruining some great heroes, it is ridiculous they made her gay definitely a disappointment I understand they want to attract the gay and lesbian community well all I can say is create a hero for them do not ruin an existing one. Why check facts before you rant? Lol They didn’t change the character’s story by having her be gay. Batwoman was created in 2006 and has been a lesbian right from the start. You’re confusing her with Batgirl or some other hero. I’m not sure what you mean by “tanking” but you obviously didn’t look at the ratings. The ratings could be better but it’s CW’s second best show in the demo and has the highest viewership of any CW show. I bet the network wishes they had more shows “tanking” like this one. Maybe they’ll order another gay superhero show… Read more »

“Lol They didn’t change the character’s story by having her be gay.” Actually, yes they did. Kate Kane (Batwoman) was introduced in 1956 as a love interest for Batman. There is history before 2000 AD.

The 1956 character was named Kathy (not Kate) and was rarely seen after 1964 or a brief revival in the 1970s. Kate was established as a different character with a different origin. Similar names but very different characters. But, I’m sure you knew that.

Yeah it’s literally silver age vs modern age Batwoman. She is such an obscure character that most people only recognize her from her New Earth/Earth Prime lesbian self. You know the one that is Bruce’s cousin and a completely different character from the original.

100% incorrect, maybe you should check your facts before your rant. Kathy Kane as “Batwoman” was introduced in the early 1950’s and her love interest was Batman. Now, I get it that you like the remake in 2006 who was portrayed as a lesbian however, that just like most is saying was done so to try and bring in a new era, not because she’s was originally gay or because she was someone other than Batwoman. People want to have the option when and how to introduce their children to the gay and lesbian community, that is the only reason… Read more »

Not incorrect, actually. As I pointed out in my 11/18 comment, the current character is Kate Kane NOT Kathy Kane. Similar names but not the same and not the same character. The original Batwoman is a footnote in comics history. I’m betting the vast majority of comic lovers under the age of 50 don’t even know who Kathy Kane was. Times change and this is the current generation’s Batwoman. Longing for the 1950s Batwoman is like expecting them to start making feature films based on the 1950s version of Batman. The show is CW’s second-highest rated show. Now that you… Read more »

Her being a lesbian is just a part of this character’s backstory. Is it the only part that bothers you? The original Batgirl was a love struck blonde who chased after Robin. Are you upset that the Barbara Gordon version of Batgirl was introduced? The original Batwoman was essentially a forgotten character and this version has a live-action TV series. I’m pretty sure that WB and DC are happy they made a new version of Batwoman. You can’t please everybody and that’s okay. Maybe this show wasn’t made for you.

It’s their second most watched show. Do you understand what that means? They won’t cancel it just because some dudebros can’t stop whining about it – it makes them money. That’s what the advertisers and investors care about.

Terminator DF for example debuted in FIRST PLACE. Its still going to lose over 100 million dollars. Its CW’s second most watched show at 1.3 mil on average. ON AVERAGE!!! in its first season which isnt even finished yet. The show is losing an avg of 200k viewers per episode. You are clutching at straws Larry. 1.345 mil viewers and 0.33 demo on average is better than what MOST CW shows have. The only show doing better is The Flash and that’s their most watched show. If they can keep shows like Charmed or Dynasty, they’ll keep Batwoman as well.
Google “nielsen ratings decline” that might help you understand why today’s ratings are so much lower than years ago.

And yet the rumour mill has started churning about the show not going to make it to season 2 and that the ordering of the full 1st season was just to close it out. You know what they say, where there is smoke….right?

CW are happy with the numbers until they are not. Paul Feig was also happy with Ghostbusters 2016, ended up losing over 100 million. Batwhaman is a dumpster fire. Get over it…… or dont. If Batwoman floats your boat then so be it but this is one viewer the cringe fest wont get.

I hope you realize that Batwoman’s ratings trend isn’t unusual. Almost all network shows see the ratings drop week after week. People get busy and end up catching up on-demand or streaming. It cracks me up when people who don’t like a particular show, point out things like this. As if the show they dislike is the only one with declining live ratings, therefore proving that it’s a bad show.

I hope you realize that’s not how Nielsen ratings work. They don’t count every single person who watches tv – just households who agreed to be part of their rating system. That’s why it’s possible for a show to get 0.0 rating and still have audience.
I also hope you realize that ratings have been decreasing for years and for every TV show. Not just for those you don’t like.

Another 8 years… at least?!? Apparently, you have no realistic concept on how television works. They MIGHT renew it for another season, just to show how stubborn they are at the CW. But another 8 years? Not a chance. And if it’s the second most watched show on the CW, that should be saying something, considering it’s only getting a shade over a million viewers… and sinking. Sounds, to me, that the CW needs to step up their game and start writing some good stories, rather than forcing agendas.
