It looks like Agent Starling will be turning in her badge. Last month, it looked like the Clarice TV show, was poised to move from the CBS network to the Paramount+ streaming service (along with SEAL Team and Evil) for its second season. Now, Deadline reports it’s looking more likely that the show will be cancelled instead.
Based on The Silence of the Lambs, the Clarice TV series stars Rebecca Breeds, Michael Cudlitz, Lucca de Oliveira, Kal Penn, Nick Sandow, Devyn Tyler, and Marnee Carpenter. The series is a deep dive into the untold personal story of FBI Agent Clarice Starling (Breeds) as she returns to the field in 1993, one year after the hunt for serial killer Buffalo Bill (Simon Northwood). Brilliant and vulnerable, Clarice’s bravery gives her an inner light that draws monsters and madmen to her. However, her complex psychological makeup — which comes from a challenging childhood — empowers her to begin to find her voice while working in a man’s world. It also helps her begin to escape the family secrets that have haunted her throughout her life.
Airing on Thursday nights, the first season of Clarice is averaging a 0.33 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 2.88 million viewers.
It’s CBS’ lowest-rated scripted series of the season so cancellation by the network wouldn’t come as much of a surprise. The series has been a solid performer on Paramount+ however.
MGM Television, who produces the series with CBS Television Studios, and Paramount+ (owned by CBSViacom) had been in negotiations for Clarice to be renewed for a second season on the streaming service. Now, negotiations have reportedly broken down with each side supposedly blaming the other. MGM being acquired by Amazon is supposedly not a factor in the deal going south.
Due to the show’s low ratings and the fact that CBS already has a full slate of series 2021-22, there appears to be no viable path for Clarice’s survival.
What do you think? Have you watched the Clarice TV show on CBS? Would you watch season two on Paramount+ or some other platform?
Yes, I’ve been watching the series and I’m invested. I don’t think the casting of this show was very compelling. Cudlitz works the best for his role. But I think the role of Clarice was not filled by the right actress, although Rebecca certainly strives mightily to fill the shoes of Jodie Foster. Devyn Tyler is a perfect fit and performs well. Don’t give up on this series, even if you cancel it. Wait a bit and then try again.
It’s a good show and the actors in it have been great. A lot of good shows would be saved if not for the so called ratings, too many. I would love to see where this goes and be ready to watch on Paramount+. Please for once consider the viewers and give this show a chance.
It’s a much better show than most of the drivel available these days. It makes you think. The characters actually develop. But, if it moves to a Paramount+ there’s no way I’ll watch it. There are too many little subscription-based services that have only their relatively few shows. The whole point of streaming is to save money over cable. But, if I have to pay a different service for each individual show, it ain’t gonna happen.
Great show……great acting. I do nothing else when watching this show.
When I like something you cancel
Not surprised. I gave up on it after 3 episodes. Wanted to like it, but it just isn’t good.
Please, please renew Clarice! My husband and I wait all week for this twisty drama! It exceeded my expectations from the first episode. That’s not an easy feat because I’m picky. I’d watch it on Peacock or Paramount plus. I’ll have to get that to watch Yellowstone too! Clarice can run for many seasons as there is an enormous amount of material they can cover. Thank you!
Clarice is a great please keep it!!!
I hate hearing this. What does it take to keep a good show on the air? Solid group of actors & solid storylines. Give it another year at least. Everyone knows the history of tv’s “ Mash”. Please let us enjoy something intelligent & for the grownups without the smut & gratuitous violence!
Fools. The show is intelligent. And well acted.
That’s too bad I love this show……guess I’m in the minority
I really like it. If it moves to another venue I would find it and watch it. There’s a lot left to unpack. Great actors, let them shine some more.
Clarice is like so many shows that start slow but have a great cast and grow with time. Give Clarice a chance and it will soar!!
Don’t cancel Clarice!! I look forward to the suspense every week.
Love this show!
