It looks like Agent Starling will be turning in her badge. Last month, it looked like the Clarice TV show, was poised to move from the CBS network to the Paramount+ streaming service (along with SEAL Team and Evil) for its second season. Now, Deadline reports it’s looking more likely that the show will be cancelled instead.
Based on The Silence of the Lambs, the Clarice TV series stars Rebecca Breeds, Michael Cudlitz, Lucca de Oliveira, Kal Penn, Nick Sandow, Devyn Tyler, and Marnee Carpenter. The series is a deep dive into the untold personal story of FBI Agent Clarice Starling (Breeds) as she returns to the field in 1993, one year after the hunt for serial killer Buffalo Bill (Simon Northwood). Brilliant and vulnerable, Clarice’s bravery gives her an inner light that draws monsters and madmen to her. However, her complex psychological makeup — which comes from a challenging childhood — empowers her to begin to find her voice while working in a man’s world. It also helps her begin to escape the family secrets that have haunted her throughout her life.
Airing on Thursday nights, the first season of Clarice is averaging a 0.33 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 2.88 million viewers.
It’s CBS’ lowest-rated scripted series of the season so cancellation by the network wouldn’t come as much of a surprise. The series has been a solid performer on Paramount+ however.
MGM Television, who produces the series with CBS Television Studios, and Paramount+ (owned by CBSViacom) had been in negotiations for Clarice to be renewed for a second season on the streaming service. Now, negotiations have reportedly broken down with each side supposedly blaming the other. MGM being acquired by Amazon is supposedly not a factor in the deal going south.
Due to the show’s low ratings and the fact that CBS already has a full slate of series 2021-22, there appears to be no viable path for Clarice’s survival.
What do you think? Have you watched the Clarice TV show on CBS? Would you watch season two on Paramount+ or some other platform?
This show should be renewed. It’s an interesting different type of show that holds your interest. The choice of programming is getting less and less desirable.
Está empezando a molestarme esto de que creen series, te enganches y después te dejen tirado, voy a terminar no mirando más series nuevas, sólo aquéllas que ya estén completas.
The writing is great, thoughtful and suspenseful- the actors are well cast and believable. Just because intelligent people enjoy this show doesn’t mean we don’t have buying power, both with streaming and or commercial tv. Please consider another season!
I would pay anyone to watch clarice!!
Yes. I would watch a second season . I would pay to subscribe to Paramount streaming to watch it. Its one of the BEST shwos that CBS debuted..CBS erratic scheduling didnt help and the lack of promos wasnt conducive to helping if find its audience..Theres a need for MORE quality shows like this, and I lke that the focus is on Clarice Starling , the hero instead of a dirtbag serial killer..it was well done ,the actors were great..It deserves a streaming chance..Very annoyed that CBS canceled it
I would love to see it get a second season. It deserves more time to pick up the ratings. I for one enjoyed it.
I vote YES for a second season! The show deserves an audience. I hung in despite CBS’s erratic scheduling, and I’m glad I did.
I absolutely would love a second season of Clarice.” Give it a chance! It really does grow on you!
Ridiculous, Clarice is an amazing show thats only just getting started. At least give it a chance on Paramount +, I’ll subscribe just for the one show!
Love it
Amazing! They keep canceling the smart shows with great casts and stories and renewing idiot reality TV and dumb sitcoms. Right there shows us the state this world is in today. And it will
only get worse. I find myself watching movies like Pelican Brief and others on internet TV. Canceling Clarice? Just another indication TV is truly sliding into its once named “Idiot Box.”
Best show ever!!!!
Clarice is an excellent show, definitely a show that’s very popular among above average intelligence viewers. It would be sad to see this series end since there are so few series for those of us with a brain. The actors are excellent and the story lines, while maybe too complex for average viewers, are intriguing and interesting for those of us with IQ’s above 120. It will be too bad if we lose this series. Please pick it up Paramount Plus!!!
The show is tense and exciting. We would absolutely watch another season.
Please renew Clarice. Absolutely love this show and look forward to it every week. I haven’t had a show capture my attention like Clarice has in a long time. The actors are excellent and we’re perfect picks. Please please please return Clarice for season 2!
