Though the ratings for CBS’ Cold Case this season seem to be dooming the series to be cancelled, series star Kathryn Morris isn’t ready to say goodbye to the unique crime drama just yet.
Cold Case is unique in that each episode begins with an unsolved crime from the past. The scene then flashes forward to the present day and a group of homicide detectives try to piece together what really happened, using old evidence and new interviews. The series stars Morris, Danny Pino, John Finn, Jeremy Ratchford, Thom Barry, and Tracie Thoms.
In an interview with the LA Times, Morris says that her role as Lilly Rush is still interesting for her to play, even within the confines of a crime procedural. She said, “Lilly has evolved from being this little beat cop to this hungry cold case detective to a person who has expanded her sole capacity. Not just with the suspects, or the victims. She has really evolved into a person that is as real to me as a relative of mine. It’s a pretty cool thing to have for this many years.”
Though she’s been doing Cold Case for seven seasons, Morris feels the show is still going strong. “I’m in talks for a couple of great independent films concurrent with Cold Case, but the show is having its best season ever if you ask me. To me when actors get restless on series, I find them to be a little on the lazy side. I’m still looking to be a better actor, and I’m grateful every day.”
In terms of the show’s ratings struggle, Morris says the series’ viewers are unique and that the writers are doing their best to attract the target demographic. She said, “Well, we have fans that have followed us wherever we go. And our audience actually watches the show when it airs, they don’t DVR it. That’s a big difference. We are trying to do more cases aimed at 18- to 49-year-olds, though. Like we just did a skateboard episode, and a fight club episode.”
What do you think? Will Cold Case survive to see season eight or is it time for the show to be over?

I have followed this show since day 1, this is one of the better shows,it hasn’t flaked out like csi.
If CBS cancelles this show I will stop watching CBS all together. We need a couple more seasons at least. I just love it.
I hope it doesn’t get cancelled, it’s one of the few decent shows on tv, and the only thing I watch on CBS.
Yeah, I liked the program initially, but I find it too difficult to watch Kathryn Morris post cosmetic procedure. The face lift she got gives me shivers it’s so scarey.
I COULDN’T AGREE MORE. IF THIS WASN’T A FACE LIFT, SHE AT LEAST HAD HER LIPS PLUMPED, MAKING HER TRADEMARK POUT LOOK LIKE SHE HAD AN AWFUL FOOD ALLERGY THAT MADE HER TOP LIP FAT AND HEAVY. GREAT SHOW, BUT I CAN HARDLY STAND TO WATCH HER NOW. MAYBE WE SHOULD ALLOW TRACY THOMS CHARACTER TO GROW NOW.
I watch Cold Case in English in the UK and in French in France. Love it. Always have done. The music is perfect synchronicity and the messages about responsibility and care for the vulnerable are so valuable. I will miss it if it goes. I have a lot of respect for the production and the value expressed in the series. So much more adult and sophisticated than the wretched teen vampire schlock we get endlessly. Positive thoughts.
PLEASE don’t cancel Cold Case. We love the sync with the music of whatever era the story is about. We also love the characters!! It is one of our top 5 shows that we watch!!
I stopped watching this show when Morris had her face lift; it just became painful to watch her looking like a freak.
I love my Cold Case…I watch it every Sunday it comes on…I also watch it on TNT…There is nothing about the show that I don’t like…Lily Rush is awesome…I hope it continues on for many more seasons. I would be lost without it. The crew is well put together and they all seem to work well together…When I think of Lily Rush, I think of her as a person, not Katheryn Morris…That is how the show makes me feel. This show is an outstanding drama that keeps you on edge throughout the whole episode…I am such a total fan of… Read more »
I would really like for the show to continue, but I believe that the basic fan-base for this show does not adjust well to the ever-shifting start time due to football games. I will try to catch 60 Minutes but I abhor the ridiculous reality shows (you know, The Crappy Race) between 60 and Cold Case. Therefore, I miss the start of the show, and then what’s the reason to see the rest? The fan-base of such an interesting show is not the same as that for a lame-brain piece of crap like those immediately preceding it.
What is it with the “powers that be?? In my opinion cancelling COLD CASE is one of one of the dumber moves youv’e made this season. NUMBERS is another. How about making some the “reality” shows that glut the airwaves “go away.?
Great show. I’m a big fan. It would help ratings immensely if CBS would get a clue and stop airing Cold Case against Desperate Housewives. They used to run CC earlier, but they could just as well bump it an hour later and do fine.
I would like to see an eighth season of Cold Case. It’s always been my favourite TV show since the first episode of the first season, and I totally love the character of Lilly Rush: Kathryn Morris just acts her perfectly. Then again, the other actors are great, the episodes touching, and the soundtrack…wow. This is a great way to find new songs and artists, and often it that makes you believe you’re watching a real movie, not just a TV show. Definitly, if CBS let Cold Case go, I too hope another network will pick it up.
I’m a fan so is alot of my family. This show is unique and should be on the air for a long time. Viva Cold Case!
eight season, i would be great….but it will mean that we won’t se KM in other films or TV series aand I want see her in other productions
I hope not =( If CBS does let it go, I hope another network picks it up. I’ve been watching it since 03′ and I still look forward to it every sunday. It’s the only show I watch on TV, and I love all the stars, but my favorite has always been Kathryn Morris <3
