Unfortunately, Detroit 1-8-7 been struggling almost from the beginning. ABC’s freshman police drama debuted with a mediocre 2.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 9.34 million viewers. Things quickly went down hill from there. The last original episode mustered just a terrible 1.0 rating and 5.05 million. Now it’s the lowest-rated scripted show on the network.
Despite those dismal numbers, at the recent TCA press tour, ABC chief Paul Lee was still pretty optimistic. He said, “We haven’t made our decisions yet on second season. I’m not saying I wouldn’t have liked it to have stayed with high numbers, because it’s an extremely high-quality show… It’s a really gritty, brilliantly written show which we’re very proud of. So do we hope it comes back. We’re not going to make those decisions probably for another two to three months, I have to say.”
Regarding the chances for a second season of Detroit 1-8-7, star Michael Imperioli is a little less optimistic. He said, “You know, we’ll see. I’m not overly confident about it. I think the show’s good enough. There are a lot of stories to tell. I think it will only get better in the future, but that has to do with a lot of factors that are out of my control.”
He continued, “I’ve been disappointed that it hasn’t done as well in the numbers… I don’t think that a lot of people really know that we’re on the air. I think that the people who do know really like it. We do have a lot of loyal fans. Primarily, it’s in the demographic — 18 to 49, whatever. I don’t know how that works that we’re not doing as good. We had some good overall numbers for a while, but you know, these things are hard to predict.”
Looking at it philosophically, Imperioli added, “[The ratings are] out of our hands. We’re doing the best we can do. The work has been really good. So I’m not complaining.”
What do you think? Will Detroit 1-8-7 be renewed? Should ABC give it a second season and a second chance, even though the ratings are poor?

Finally a great show on ABC and they want to dump it? I dont get it. Its the best show on ABC and the only show on ABC I watch, so if they care about people watchhing their station, they need to keep this show. It’s great!!
This show should definitely STAY ON THE AIR.It would be sooo wrong to pull this amazing show when there are other shows out there that need to be pulled instead.I love the WHOLE cast and the whole premise of the show. There must be other people out there who feel the same way.The best actor on the show is MICHAEL IMPERIOLI, I’ve been watching him since his days on ‘The Sopranos’.
I’m sad to hear this show is not doing well. I’m hooked to it. Its such a great show. I figured more people were watching. ABC don’t go it to me again. I got hooked on a couple other shows that got canned, Better off Ted, Life on Mars. Ugh…Frustrated.
Absolutely, love the show. My husband and I are heartbroken it has been cancelled and we love the whole cast. They do an excellent job and the story lines are great. Please renew it for another season.
This is such a good show. I love the story lines, why is it that good shows like this get cancelled and ridiculous reality TV keeps being picked up over and over. I really hope that this show stays.
Good show but tough time slot. Up against The Good Wife and white Collar.
I love this show, best police show thats been on for awhile, especially Det. Finch chacter. Office enviroment on show seems realistic. Please give it a chance.
I love the show and hope it will be back for season 2. The stories are great and Finch is unique.
I luv this show!!! I luv Michael Imperoli even when he was on the Sopranos!!! Maybe the tiime it comes on (West Coast on at 10 PM) could be a factor why many people have missed it. I record it when I am not able to watch it at the time it comes on!!! That is how much I like this show!!!
It is the only new show I kept watching this season. If you haven’t signed the petition to save it, let ABC know we want them to give this show another chance!

LOVE Detroit 1-8-7 n Finch’s character is great!
I cannot wait to figure him out but that takes time.
I sure hope they give this show a chance-as I am SICK OF WATCHING REALITY TV.
ENTERTAIN US N TEACH US SOMETHING…
DETROIT 187 is absolutely tops, thanks to a quality cast and crew. No doubt about it. There’s no gloss, no glitz, no plastic, just realism and genuineness, the way it is in the REAL world. It’s so unique. It’s like watching a play set in modern times on TV. No one is rich (like in Castle). Even the cars in this program don’t get washed and the windshields are dirty. The venetian blinds show dust and fingerprints. A lot of the older buildings display rust and corrosion, and the lighting and office furniture aren’t of the latest upgrades. There are… Read more »
love the show! found it by mistake. think it would do better in a different time slot!!
Please, Please, Please move this to another night! I love the Good Wife but I love Detroit. I would watch it on Comcast On Demand but it is not available. Give it another chance!
I swore I wouldn’t let myself get hooked into a serious show again only to have the network pull the rug out and cancel it. But I’m hooked on this show. Nothing else looks like it and the writing and acting are a cut above most of the other work on television. Imperioli’s “Fitch” is one of the most fascinating characters you’ll find anywhere.
