Still-gorgeous Jane Seymour is starring in a new original movie for the Hallmark Channel. Dear Prudence debuts on August 23rd and the 57-year-old Seymour plays a Martha Stewart-type celebrity named Prudence. Like Murder She Wrote’s Jessica Fletcher, Prudence stumbles into a murder mystery and ends up solving it using her keen skills of observation. If the movie performs well, you can expect to see more of them. Could this mean that we could also see a new Dr. Quinn movie? Unfortunately, no.
Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman debuted in 1993 and ran for six seasons on CBS. The series was cancelled in 1998 due to production costs, aging viewers, and sagging ratings. To mollify loyal viewers, a made-for-TV-movie was produced and aired in May 1999. Unfortunately, many fans were dissatisfied with the storyline, the absence of several castmembers, and series creator Beth Sullivan’s lack of involvement. It was not well received by critics and attracted 12 million viewers.
A couple years later, another reunion movie called The Heart Within was produced. Sullivan had full creative control this time around but budget limitations limited the appearances of minor characters. The second effort attracted 11 million viewers.

Several castmembers have also said that they’d like to reprise their characters from the show. The 150 series episodes continue to be popular in syndication and the DVD sets have sold well so there’s been interest in producing new Dr. Quinn adventures. Unfortunately, that’s not likely to happen.
Seymour told reporters that CBS owns the rights to the show and that President and CEO “Leslie (Moonves) does not want to make any more Dr. Quinn’s.” She reminded them that the studio doesn’t own everything however, saying, “CBS owns [the show]. But I do still have all the clothes.”
Though the door is seemingly closed on the western adventure series, Seymour hopes to find other ways to work with her former Quinn castmates. If she makes other Prudence movies, Seymour wants to find ways to include them. Stay tuned!
Absolutely love this show and have re-watch the series numerous times never get sick of watching it was hoping that they would have published a book with some of the pictures of doctor Quinn’s Clinic the church and parts of the town that would have really been something for all of us who love this show so much to keep what do hope they have they have reunions
Just finished rewatching the series for the first time since it came out. However, I now live in Colorado, just north of Colorado Springs, and enjoyed the references to geologic landmarks and actual historic events.
We are having a hard time watching the 6 seasons on our hallmark station…we wanted to record them but according to COMCAST/XFINITY there is a problem on Hallmarks end…is anyone else having a problem with series records on Hallmark drama…they won’t get back to us!!!
I loved this show and looked forward to Everytime it was on. I have ordered 2 seasons of DVDs and will order the rest. My husband likes it too. It’s definitely a classic and has something for everyone. CBS was not thinking right when they canceled. It still had great ratings. Wish they would bring it back.
I’m on the last episode. Started rewatching the series a few weeks ago. As before, I don’t want it to end.
I was a fan then and also own all six seasons and the movies. The movies were not very good. I think it is a good time to bring back the show. The world doesn’t appreciate anything and this series would be a good reminder. Beth Sullivan needs to be involved though, if it was she who was writing the scripts. Great story line and it would be good to see how the characters evolved. This show had the perfect people playing the characters. They were all PERFECT. Really miss the sLaurahow. I watch the CD’s and re-watch them all… Read more »
everywhere that I have looked there are poor reviews on the quality of the DVD’S…where did you buy yours…thank you…
Bring back Dr. quinn please!!! One of the best shows ever!!
I love all the actors in DQMW and especially jane and Joe together.Their chemistry between the two together is fabulous so I will watch any movie with these actors in them xx
I watched it in Poland when i was young . Now 18 years later watched again . And I will when I am 90 with grandchildren. Best show ever. Touching heart each time I watch it. Best of best.
I just watch the reruns over and over. The show had beautiful sceneries and life lessons. I especially like the sayings of Cloud dancing. Dr. Quinn and her family were very special. The show made one want to go out and start their own business as well as get close to nature. The love and romance of Sully and Dr. Quinn was heart warming. Some of the episodes were very sad when characters passed away. This show would do well if it returned at this time during such critical times in the world.
I am 17 and I recently paid $50 to obtain all seasons and the movies to this sho . I wish there were more with the same quality as the first few seasons. This show is educational and the perfect setting to try and recreate for real life. So dissapointed its ove . I have to watch reruns now.
I love seeing Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman alot ..I can see it over and over again again… that makes me sad that it ended 6 episode…bring it back!!!!
Dr. Quinn is the best show I’ve ever seen. I record it on 2 different channels. I wish all shows were like this one. All tv shows now are violent or include a lot of sex or sex scenes. Dr. Quinn taught values and showed a glimpse of life as it was back then no its not exactly as it was in those times but it shows people something like it.
Quinn was one of the best shows ever. I still record and watch it daily. It’s too bad shows like this are not around anymore.
To me, Dr. Quinn was one of the best shows on TV as was The Waltons and Little House. Those 3 series were decent and entertaining to most of we “boomers”. Too bad there’s not more shows like them being created, today. I still watch all of the reruns everyday. They are a great escape from the problems of every day life in the world in which we live. Takes me back to a much simpler time and its people.
I don’t understand they just don’t make the additions as people request? Its all about catering to the young and vampires, supernatural. I can’t stand tv anymore.
We so enjoy the show and have watched it religiously over the years on the network and in syndication. We also enjoyed the Prudence movies and hope they will do more of those.
we need this show to return to the air we the people of Virginia miss it
