The Family stars Joan Allen stars as Claire Warren, Alison Pill as Willa Warren, Rupert Graves as John Warren, and Zach Gilford as Danny Warren. Margot Bingham is Detective Nina Meyer. Liam James is Ben/Adam Warren. Andrew McCarthy is Hank Asher. Floriana Lima is Bridey Cruz. Young Willa and Danny are played by Madeleine Arthur and Rarmian Newton.

Claire finally realizes what Adam and Ben endured when she visits the hell hole-like tomb where they were kept, exploding with grief, anger and frustration. Meanwhile Jane looks to make a getaway as Nina closes in on Doug’s location, and Agent Clements’ time is running out. Hank comes face to face with his inner demons, and one phone call shatters Ben’s world, forcing him to tackle an uncertain destiny.

The Family was canceled due to low ratings. As of the May 8th episode, the series averaged 0.83 in the 18-49 year-old viewer demographic and drew an average total audience of 3.276 million viewers. We have been tracking 25 scripted ABC series during the 2015-16 television season. Those numbers leave The Family ranked 21st out of 25, when sorted by both the demo and total average audience.

ABC cancelled The Family on Thursday, May 12, 2016, so this first season finale was not written as an intentional TV series finale. If the audience will get sufficient closure or satisfaction from “What Took So Long,” remains to be seen.

I think I’m not going to watch anything ABC puts up anymore this is the 3 or 4th Time they did this to the viewers (Remember 666 Park Ave) what about Secrets and Lies not sure if that’s canceled also not to mention a few others (Forever) that were very well written shows. If ABC is going to cancel any show, it should be Once Upon a Time not The Family. This is why customers are turning away from cable and networks.
No… I love this show and things just started getting good. I knew Adam had to still be alive. There is so much left to be told and done. This cannot be the end!!!
Can Not believe they have cancelled The Family!!! A brilliant, Suspenseful show! What are they thinking?!!! But by all means lets keep the mindless ones like…the bachelor, once upon a time, Dr. Ken, Fresh off the boat etc. Just stupid!!
Very disappointed this show was cancelled. I just loved this how. I couldn’t wait for Sunday nite to come. I can’t believe it. The ending for the season was so good and so looking forward to it continuing. Very sad about this!!!
This was my favorite show by far this year. I am extremely disappointed in the cancellation of this great show.

Please, please, please don’t let this show end! I loved this show and can’t believe that this is it. Could the low ratings be the result of Sunday night time slot? After last night’s finale..they can’t leave us hanging like that!! C’mon ABC!!
What.. please this show is so well written. The characters are all an entity to themselves. Its an awesome show, please….bring it back
No! Don’t cancel The Family! One of my favorite TV shows ever!
This show was awesome and I’m upset at it’s cancellation. That said, a few continuity and other errors irked me. Ben’s collar after Claire does his Windsor knot. One corner of his shirt lifted up in one angle and smooth in another angle. A minor detail, but such a stupid miss by whoever was on charge of continuity. Depending upon how often Doug checked on the boys, how could they live with so little access to oxygen? If Doug came more often, how could he miss a giant hole in the wall? I cannot believe this show was cancelled already…it is so unique in a world full of copycats and remakes!!! I started watching just for Andrew McCarthy, and ended up loving the show for everything else. To make things worse, I recorded it because i work night shift, and turned it on the next morning to find that my boyfriend stopped the recording 11 min before the end! Now i can only read about it…please don’t do this to me:(
