The ABC TV show about what happens in the future apparently doesn’t have one. FlashForward has been cancelled after one season.
FlashForward begins as the world’s population blacks out for 137 seconds and they “flash forward” to see visions of their lives six months in the future. The series’ ensemble cast includes Joseph Fiennes, John Cho, Jack Davenport, Zachary Knighton, Peyton List, Dominic Monaghan, Brian F. O’Byrne, Courtney B. Vance, Sonya Walger, and Christine Woods.
The series debuted in September and attracted a 4.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 12.47 million viewers. With a lot of buzz, it seemed like ABC had a hit. For week two, the ratings dropped to a still very respectable 3.7 and 10.73 million.
But then viewership just kept falling, hitting a low of a 2.1 in the key demo and just 7.1 million viewers. Then, ABC pulled the series for three months. The spin was that they would relaunch FlashForward after the Olympics.
The network gave the return a significant amount of promotion but it didn’t help. FlashForward’s ratings were even worse and they just kept dropping. They’ve gotten so bad that The CW has been beating them in the demo.
To no surprise, ABC has cancelled FlashForward after one season of 20 episodes. The series finale will air in two weeks, on May 27th.
What do you think? Did FlashForward deserve a second season? Could ABC have saved it? If given the chance, how would you wrap it up?

@SpZ: This is all well and good. But Starz is a pay per view channel with a monthly fee. As much as I love FlashForward, which I most certainly do, I don’t think I’m willing to pay an additional monthly fee on top of my already high cable bill. I just hope one of the other free cable networks will still pick it up 🙂
Yes I understand this. We’ll just have to wait and see I guess. *sigh*
That article and an old school mate that works there told me about it
Ok I found a source – Read this everyone: http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/cult/s56/flashforward/news/a247109/starz-to-revive-flashforward.html
@SpZ: We haven’t reported this because, really, it’s all based on the word of some unknown person who says that they called Starz and talked to another unknown person.
Okey, we’ll just have to wait and see then 🙂
But this unknown person is indeed an individual that works for the company Starz, and he did indeed say that they’re seeking for license to renew the show. It’s gotta be worth something, right? 🙂
I found out this morning that Flash forward has indeed been picked up for a new season.
Fans rejoice, Staz or something close has picked it up and intends to get the show back on the road.
Well I’m pleased to report this findings.
@ Todd
Now where did you get this information???? It’s in all of our best interest if you could reveal the source!
Is there any hope that Flashfoward can be revived? I just bought the DVD with the first 10 episodes, and I find the show very interesting. I hope someone will bring it back to a regular viewing schedule on network or cable. The show is very good!
Don’t know what ABC was thinking… Totally agree with everyone here Flash Forward was the only show that had my interest especially after Lost. Now I have no interest in ABC what so ever!
I’m from Austria and I love FF!
Is it too late to renew the series on another channel?
Come on, there has to be a second season!
I’m from Brazil and I love Flashforward, it’s a great show…I think FF deserve a second season.
I can’t believe it! if abc channel wants to attract only, and only common fans, then go on! if you would like to have some ones who are interested in watching different shows, then please, please, please, let us have next seasons fot flash forwards!
i can´t understand why such a brilliant show is being cancelled….i really would love to see what happens next, same as millions of people all over the world!!!!!
The increasing number of good shows getting cancelled is a representation of a global decrease in IQ.
|pitty…it was the best show ever…it is not to late to save it
YOU PEOPLE AT ABC NEED TO GET YOUR HEADS EXAMINED THIS WAS A GOOD SHOW YOU ALWAYS CANCEL THE GOOD SHOWS GET RID OF THE HOSPITAL SHOWS WHO CARES WHAT ELSE ARE YOU GOING TO CANCEL THAT I WATCH BYE ABC WONT WATCH ANYMORE SHOWS OF YOURS BECAUSE THEY GET CANCELED WHY GET INTERESTED WHEN YOU JUST DISAPPOINT US WATCHERS
I completely agree. I’m really annoyed with never knowing the ending of this show. It had such a great story going for it. Demetri even survived. I was going to vow to never watch it if Demetri died even if Mark did get drunk that night. I can’t believe they canceled it especially after revealing Janice’s triple agent status! UGH! So many loose ends that I’ll never have closure with. ABC holds nothing for me now especially with Lost over. So long American Broadcasting Corp.
It appears that any show that might appeal to more mature audiences with half a brain, gets canceled. Yet we have 500 crime/law shows. I liked Law & Order, SVU, & Criminal Intent, but then we also got CSI, CSI Miami, CSI New York, and how many hospital based dramas can we have. Finally we got something different, suspenseful, brain worthy and it gets canceled. I also was intrigued by Happy Town, but since you have to have a higher IQ than a cat to watch it, it got canceled. I truly think ABC sucks. It is really disappointing to… Read more »
I totally agree this is the last time I start watching an ABC show onlt to get interested and have them drop it. I’m currently watching Rookie Blue on the DVR – the worst show I have ever seen. How can they have this on and drop Flash Forward?
